Abstract:Commonest cause of axillary nerve lesion is trauma. Many workers have studied the safe area for axillary nerve by measuring its distance from various landmarks. Sixty formalin fixed cadaveric shoulders were dissected. After proper exposure of axillary nerve and acromian process of scapula, distance of axillary nerve was measured from lateral edge, anterior and posterior edge of acromian process in neutral position. Distance was noted in adduction and abduction. Arm length and full arm length were measured. Mean, standard deviation, range was calculated. Mean distance of the nerve in neutral position was compared to the arm length and the full arm length using SPSS 11 software.

Abstract:A carotid body tumour is a rare presentation of an extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma which typically present as a slow growing, painless neck mass found along the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, and careful preoperative evaluation is required to find out the functional and vascular status of these tumours. Carotid body paragangliomas were diagnosed by Doppler ultrasound, carotid artery angiography, cranial computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. These tumours are generally benign but possess aggressive local growth potential. Therefore, definitive treatment requires surgical resection. Here we describe a case of a carotid body tumour in a 45-year-old female presenting with a neck mass, its evaluation, management and the final outcome and review the most recent literature on this unusual topic.

Abstract:Fertility is an important predictor of maternal mortality: high fertility levels being associated with high maternal mortality. Factors like use of contraception, fertility preferences are empirically shown to influence fertility levels. Choosing a method of birth control, its effectiveness and safety are the key considerations. Objectives of the study were to determine the proportion of women using hormonal and non-hormonal contraceptive methods among modern contraceptive users and to determine factors associated with use of hormonal and non-hormonal contraceptive methods.

Abstract:A case of omental endometriosis with recurrent haemorrhagic ascites in a 22 year old nullipara is presented. She first presented at a private hospital with a three month history of progressive abdominal distention and the transabdominal ultrasound scan revealed a right ovarian mass with massive ascites. She had laparotomy and the histology reports of the omental and ovarian samples revealed endometriosis and fibroma respectively. She presented to us with a recurrence of the distension six months later. Repeat transabdominal ultrasound scan and an abdominopelvic computed tomograhpy revealed only a massive ascites. She had a second laparotomy and the histology of the degenerating omental sample still revealed endometriosis. Patient was managed satisfactorily on hormonal therapy without recurrence over a two year follow up. The Literature on the appropriate imaging modalities in endometriosis is reviewed and these showed that with judicious use, imaging is accurate in the pre operative diagnosis.

Abstract: The large amount of iodine-131 (131I) activity excreted by the patient via perspiration, saliva, breath and urine during hospitalization may develop radiation contamination hazard. The aim of this study was to measure the level of contamination activity from skin and room surfaces throughout radioiodine ablation patient's hospitalization and to determine the correlation between the administrated dose and level of contamination activity from skin and room surfaces. The removable activity was measured from nine patients treated with radioactive 131I with doses ranged from 3.0 to 5.5 GBq (80 – 200 mCi). The measurement was made at patient's skin and room surfaces in the three-time interval of 4, 10 and 24 hours. The results showed that the removable activity for skin and room surfaces exceeds the regulation level for most of the time post 131I administration throughout patient's hospitalizations. There was no significant correlation between levels of surface contamination and treatment dose received by the patient. The radiation safety precautions must be considered in order to minimize radiation exposure to the family, personnel and community either during hospitalization or after discharge.

Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Ocular morbid condi t ions are responsible for part ial or total bl indness. OBJECTIVE: To study some epidemiological determinant s of ocular morbidi t ies in rural area. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Present Community Based Cross-Sectional Study Was Undertaken In Rural Area Of Hingna,Nagpur District.This Study Was Carried Out In 194 Families With 925 Study Subjects During February 2005-December 2005. Diagnosis Of Ocular Morbid Condition Was Based On Standard Clinical Definitions And International Classification Of Diseases-10 (Icd-10).Both Eyes Were Examined And All The Relevant Clinical Findings Were Recorded In Predesigned Proforma.

Abstract: Coronary angiography is the radiographic visualisation of the coronary vessels after the injection of a radiopaque contrast media. The radiographic images are recorded for the future review with 35mm cine film or digital recording. Percutaneous or cut down techniques, usually from the femoral or brachial artery, are used for the insertion of special intravascular catheters. Coronary angiography requires selective cannulation of the ostium of the left and right coronary arteries to obtain optimal selective contrast injection and imaging. The anatomy of coronary artery varies and several nomenclatures have been used to describe the anatomy and extent of disease. Currently, the most common one is that used in Coronary Artery Surgery Study (CASS), recently modified by the Bypass Angioplasty Revascularisation Investigation(BARI). In this tree the coronary nomenclature is divided into 29 segments with the ability to account for anatomic variations. In the present era people are opting for coronary angioplasty and coronary artery Bypass surgery almost on the counter in countries rich and poor. Knowledge of variations in the angiographic anatomy of coronary artery is vital in during interpretation of coronary angiography films , and managing congenital and acquired paediatric and adult heart diseases.

Abstract: Trauma to anterior teeth is common and requires accurate diagnosis and thorough treatment planning. The maxillary incisors are often affected during injury to the face because of their normal labial projection inflicting damage to the crowns. Multidisciplinary treatment approach is important for aesthetic and functional rehabilitation of anterior teeth with crown fracture. The purpose of this article is to present a case of fractured anterior teeth and its management taking in consideration the biologic, functional, esthetic and economic aspects.

Abstract: Objective- To assess the knowledge, attitude and perceived barriers towards practice of evidence based dentistry among Indian postgraduate dental students. Method- This is a cross-sectional questionnaire study. 234 post-graduate dental students participated in the present study (response rate – 86.7%). Knowledge, attitude and perceived barriers towards practice of evidence based dentistry was assessed using a validated, self-administered questionnaire. Frequency tables were computed. Independent samples t- test was used to test for the difference in mean knowledge scores between clinical and non-clinical department (p < 0.05) is considered statistically significant. Results- 65 (27.8%) subjects were not familiar with evidence based dentistry, Mean knowledge reagarding terminologies used in evidence based dentistry was high among clinical than non-clinical students. A positive attitude was seen among the post graduates in practice of evidence based dentistry, there exist certain barriers in practice of evidence based dentistry.
