Title | : | Landslide Investigation of Ikwette, Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | Ogbonnaya Igwe || Brooks Abiye Effiong || Maduka Raphael Iweanya || Oha Ifeanyi Andrew |
Abstract: This study investigates the causes of a slope failure at Ikwette, Obudu local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria in 2013. It also involves a slope stability analysis of the failed slope, which was OB1. To understand instability in the study area, a combination of field, geotechnical and statistical analysis were undertaken. Some obtained parameters were then applied in a slope/W Geostudio 2012 software program which uses the conventional limit equilibrium methods to simulate the dominant factors inducing instability.

Title | : | GIS and Sensor Based Monitoring and Prediction of Landslides with Landslide Monitoring and Prediction System (LMPS) for Indian Scenario |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Murugesh Prabhu T.S. | Sivakumar V. || Binay Kumar || Biju C. || Pinak Ranade |
Abstract: Monsoon rains affect the Indian subcontinent every year causing devastating floods and deadly landslides. The worst damages usually are reported in the northern and north-eastern part of India in the Himalayan region. High risk landslide sites are located across the country, which become dangerous during rainy season. Hence, monitoring and prediction of landslides in these regions are of utmost importance. Geographical data management and dissemination for mitigation activities in the event of such disasters can be handled effectively using GIS technology and physical sensors. With parallel computing power available, models can be run by varying parameters to simulate different landslide scenarios. This will help in understanding the landslide precursors, critical parameter values and create awareness among those living on these slopes on real time.

Title | : | The Secrets behind the Origin of Our Galaxy (Hypothesis) |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dharmaj Mitra |
Abstract: Philosophers as well as modern scientists have failed so far in proving beyond doubt ,the secret behind creation, existence and destruction of galaxies. (A galaxy is a perfect unit of the Universe) That is why, modern man is still entangled in incomplete theories. A hypothetical model to overcome this dilemma, is introduced in this text, as Chain Bang theory.

Abstract: Barsingsar village is located at the south-western corner of the lignite seam in the area. Mine Boundary is based on the cut of limiting ratio of 1:15 (lignite: OB in m3). The geological reserve reported within the mine boundary is 58.89 MT. The mineable reserves of 53 MT are to be excavated by removing 255.18 Mm3 of overburden. The average stripping ratio is 1:4.81 (lignite in T: OB in M3). Key words: Lignite,geology and hydrogeology etc.

Title | : | The Illustration of Mechanism and development of Atmospheric dynamic peripherals on the plate shifting and simulation of real time analysis of Disaster by soil decompression (Concentric wave Emission) |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Shayantan Bhattacharya || Saurabh Parashar |
Abstract: This research papers illustrates and justify the soil shifting and a pre determinant mechanism of testing and real time analysis of soil composition and the behavior by concentric waveform generation and the field effect of the concentric waves thus formed. The waveforms generated are being analyzed using a field wire enclosure structure having a non conducting cylinder with circular magnetic field effect induction. The electrical pulses being generated are plotted against fluid viscosity behavior. The research paper illustrates with conclusion and analysis that a correlation simulation model is possible with fluid properties to generate non obvious prediction mechanism to possible pulse generator.

Title | : | Mapping of Aquifer Contamination Using Geoelectric Methods at a Municipal Solid Waste Disposal site in Warri, Southern Nigeria |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | Ofomola, M. O |
Abstract: Vertical electrical sounding, 2-D resistivity imaging and hydrogeochemical analysis have been applied in the study of aquifer contamination in a municipal solid waste disposal site in Warri, southern Nigeria. Fourteen sounding points were occupied in the area and the resistivity imaging employing the Dipole dipole configuration was measured along two orthogonal traverse lines cutting across the dumpsite. The geoelectric sections reveal four distinct layers namely topsoil, fine sand, medium grained sand and fine to medium grained sand. The low resistivity values obtained beneath the dumpsite in the southern direction in the N-S geoelectric section,

Title | : | Stability analysis and simulated hydrologic response of some vulnerable slopes in Nigeria implications for rainfall-induced landslides |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | O. Igwe |
Abstract: Hillslope geometry, material properties, and hydraulic heterogeneities complicate slope stability models. To reduce uncertainties in the determination of Factor of Safety, parameters obtained at in-situ stress levels using ASTM standards were used in two slope stability models to identify and classify some vulnerable slopes in northern and southern parts of Nigeria.Steady-state and peak strength parameters were applied separately in an infinite slope analysis simulating the variation of slope attributes with degree of saturation. The application yielded FS that were consistent with instability, and accurately predicted the characteristics of slopes in which failure was likely.
