Abstract:Background: Aquaculture have developed more and more strongly in many countries around the world. However, a intensive shrimp or fish farming model always have issues in pond water pollution. NH3 and NO2 toxic gases are two direct threats to survival rate and growth of aquatic animals. It is necessary to find out a economical and environmentally friendly solution in order to control NH3 and NO2 in aquaculture ponds. Therefore, this study was carried out to get an effective approach based on the combination of Bacillus sp. and Yucca schidigera extract in NH3 and NO2 control. Materials and Methods: Bacillus sp. is isolated on NA medium from sludge samples collected in Can Gio Mangrove Forest. Screening Bacillus strains and dilution......

Abstract: After sprouting of onions, the shoots are used as vegetables and bulbs discarded. These usually discarded onion bulbs may have improved antioxidant potentials resulting from sprouting. These improved properties could be harnessed to combat or manage some degenerative and non-communicable diseases. This study was therefore conducted to determine the effects of sprouting and boiling on the antioxidant potentials of onions (Allium cepa L.). Samples were either sprouted for 0 – 10 days or boiled for 0 – 8 minutes. Phytochemical (total phenols, flavonoids, ascorbic acid) analyses and antioxidant activities such as reducing power, DPPH and ABTS radicals scavenging activities were used to assess antioxidant potentials using standard methods. The results show that regardless of the nature of solvent, boiling resulted in significant reduction in total phenols (P<0.05). The least reduction (36%) was observed......

Abstract: Physical mutagens as X rays, γ rays induce fatality on living system as chromosomal aberrations that eventually lead to cancer. Chromosomal Aberration Test (CAT) is employed as an index of cancer. In the present study, the author has investigated the effect of two different radiations i.e. X rays and γ-rays (1.2 Gy dose) on bone marrow cells of house musk shrew, Suncus murinus. The experimental animals were exposed to whole body irradiations in two different sets. Seven different types of chromosomal aberrations were observed in bone marrow cells of the shrew, after four different time intervals post exposure, as 1 hr, 16 hr, 48 hr and 1 week (168 hr.) As a result, for both the exposures, the maximum percentage of aberration had been obtained after 48 hr of exposure for both the radiations.....

Abstract: In this study pure and Ni doped ZnO nanoparticles were fabricated by using sol-gel method. The morphology and the microstructure of the pure and doped samples have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results revealed that the samples were crystalline hexagonal wurzite structure and the absorption spectra were observed under the UV- visible spectroscopy. The effect of pH on the rate of degradation is important and it has to be considered .In order to investigate the effect of pH on pure and doped ZnO nanoparticles photocatalytic activity of the water degradation of methyl orange was also studied with different pH values and it is observed that the absorption of the dye on ZnO and Nickel doped ZnO nanoparticles surface is strongly dependent on the pH of the solution and which plays an important role in photocatalytic degradation also the dopant studies shows a greater efficacy value under pH 6.

Abstract:Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is considered to be one of the most pervasive non-communicable disease. Diabetic patients with accompanied dyslipidaemia are soft targets of cardiovascular deaths. Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) which is chemically linked to sugar and it is considered a gold-standard measure of chronic glycaemia in diabetic patients. Changes in lipid profile is also well related with severity of DM as adjudged by HbA1c. Aims and objectives: To investigate the association of serum lipids with Glycated Haemoglobin in type 2DM patients. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among the patients with a history of type 2 Diabetes mellitus for the past 10 years who were attending diabetic clinic at MES Medical College and hospital, Perinthalmanna, Malappuram........

Abstract:Background: Several studies on chickens have been conducted on the European, American and Asian continents. However, according to the literature, there is little data on African chickens, particularly those from the Ivory Coast. The present study is conducted on the African chicken Gallus gallus to overcome the lack of data on this species. It focuses on specimens of Gallus gallus of the so-called Dzaye breed in Côte d'Ivoire. The study concerns the histology of the reproductive system of the Gallus gallus hen. Materials and Methods: a sample of hens called DZAYE represents the biological material. After euthanasia and dissection of the birds, histological treatments and observation with an optical microscope allowed the study of the structure of the ovary......
