Abstract: Background: A large number of new products are introduced to the market every year, but most of them are removed from the market prematurely. The reasons for this are usually the lack of adequate knowledge about the new product development (NPD) methodology and its generality and complexity. The aim of this study is to produce an overview of three methods (Design thinking, Lean startup and Stage-Gate processes) to provide scientific information to independent inventors about such models.
