Abstract: The gravity and magnetic data along the profile across the southern part of the Cauvery basin have been collected and the data is interpreted for crustal structure depths. The third profile is taken from Manamudrai to Eruvadi covering a distance of 65 km. The gravity lows and highs have clearly indicated various sub-basins and ridges. The density logs from ONGC, Chennai, show that the density contrast decreases with depth in the sedimentary basin, and hence, the gravity profile is interpreted using variable density contrast with depth. From the Bouguer gravity anomaly, the residual anomaly is constructed by graphical method correlating with well data and subsurface geology. The residual anomaly profiles is interpreted using polygon and prismatic models. The maximum depths to the granitic gneiss basement are obtained as 4.50 km. The regional anomaly is interpreted as Moho rise towards coast. The aeromagnetic anomaly profile is also interpreted for charnockite basement below the granitic gneiss group of rocks using prismatic model.

Abstract: The heavy metals distribution (Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Cd, and Hg) was determined in the surface sediments of Safaga Harbour. The surface seiments recorded an average value of 0.52%, 126.91 ppm, 22.5 ppm, 10.44 ppm, 20.33 ppm, 14.09 ppm, 0.18 ppm, and 0.01 ppm for Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Cd, and Hg, respectively. The beach and intertidal areas show the highest values of Pb at Safaga Harbour; this is attributed to coal disburdening, oil spills from ships in the harbour area, cement packing, and phosphate shipment, in addition to human activities at Fishermen's Port (marine paints as Pb chloride and oily waste from the boats). In comparison, the data on heavy metals gained from this study with guidelines showed that the average values of the studied heavy metals were lower than the threshold effect level. To determine possible relations between various variables, a correlation matrix......

Abstract: Tsunamis are a severe hazard that results in many deaths and damage to infrastructure, especially along the coasts of tsunami-prone areas along the World Ocean coast. The Black Sea is an inland sea surrounded and intersected by many active faults and geodynamic features that can generate tsunamis. Tsunami events are rare in this sea basin, although evidence of such events is described in historical chronicles and recorded over the past century through continuous sea level observations with tide gauges constructed along its coast. We present findings from a synthesis of the studies from the last four decades on tsunamis along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast with broader implications.....

Abstract: Hydrocarbon reservoirs have an associated water aquifer due to the prior conditions of high porosity and permeability, as the hydrocarbon migrates to the reservoir rocks, it displaces water due to it's low density. Attempts to drill for ground water in Kipeto area of Kajiado county, Kenya, have resulted to a number of dry boreholes and in the recent past a well with flammable natural gas in Inkorkirdinga village. This new revelation has unearthed the potential of this area as one of the flammable gas fields within the Kenyan rift system. The water well failures is attributed to a possibility of water being displaced by the gas in this area as a result of the over pressure in conversion of kerogen to oil and gas or biogenic processes. This makes it possible to apply inverse problem.....

Abstract: Background: The lack of knowledge about aquifer recharge zones has caused serious problems related to their preservation, for example the contamination of aquifers in urban areas by industrial establishments and residences. This context has motivated numerous studies aimed at mapping aquifers and monitoring their degree of preservation. To this end, geophysics is a promising tool given its ability to comprehensively investigate the subsurface without the need for drilling, a risky procedure that increases the risk of contamination, especially in landfill areas.

Abstract: Migori Greenstone Belt, located on the western part of Kenya is considered as one of the major gold fields in Kenya. It's mineralization is believed to occur a long a system of veins. With the continuous extraction of minerals in this belt, exploration is currently evolving from surface based exploration to subsurface exploration. This necessitates a better understanding of the geophysical features in the subsurface which are likely to have a direct bearing on the distribution of minerals. The host lithosphere is suspected to be under compression forces given that it is located between the western and eastern branches of the east African rift system, which are divergent zones. The resultant lithological deformation is expected to directly affect the mineralization within the prospect. This study was conducted.....
