Title | : | Chemical Castration of Adult and non-Adult Male Dogs with Sodium Chloride Solution |
Country | : | Turkey |
Authors | : | Ibrahim Canpolat || Enis Karabulut || Yesari Eroksuz |
ABSTRACT:This study evaluated intra-testicular injection of sodium chloride for chemical-castration in 12 mix bred dogs (6 adult and 6 non-adult). The sodium chloride at 20% concentration per testis were injected intratesticularly until tension occurs and the testicles were removed with the open surgical technique about 30 days for histopathologic evaluation. Testicular swelling was evident in both group dogs following injection and reached peak within 48 hours. While testicular volume decreased significantly (P<0.05) in both group after 2-4 weeks. The testicles underwent atrophy at the 30th day in non-adult group with nomarked alteration in adult group. Though only 3 non-adult dogs were sterile, other adult dogs maintained androgenesis. It was concluded that intra-testicular injections of sodiumchloride at 20% concentration administration may not be accepted as a suitable alternative to the open surgical technique for castration in adult dogs but could be used as a preferable treatment option non adult dogs

Title | : | The prevention of postoperative intra-abdominal adhesion formation with different methods: a review article |
Country | : | Turkey |
Authors | : | Enis Karabulut || Ibrahim Canpolat |
ABSTRACT: Intra-abdominal adhesions are almost inevitable after major abdominal surgery. Postoperative adhesions continue to be the major cause of small bowel obstruction and infertility. Peritoneal lesions caused by abrasion, ischemia, desiccation, infection, thermal injury and foreign bodies are the origin of adhesions. Fibrinous adhesions that develop within a few hours of operational trauma. This fibrin can either re-absorb completely, leaving a clear peritoneal cavity, or become organized by the ingrowth of fibroblasts to form established fibrous adhesions. Adhesions may be diminished in five ways...........

Title | : | Impacts of Telfairia Mosaic Virus (Temv) Infection and Defoliation (DF) on the Nutritional Quality of African Yam Bean (Sphenostylis Stenocarpa) (Hochst. Ex. Rich) Harms |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | Mofunanya, A. A. J. |
ABSTRACT: Assessing the impacts of TeMV and DF on the nutritional composition of Sphenostylis stenocarpa (S. stenocarpa) is important to predict quality of the legume. Results revealed significant (p<0.05) reductions in both TeMV and DF samples with DF having higher reductions compared to TeMV and control in all the nutritional parameters investigated. Infection brought about reductions of 41.1%, 21.3%, 88.8% in alkaloids, tannins saponins against 58.3%, 41.1%, 90.0% respectively for DF. Ash and fiber contents were higher in TeMV compared with DF. DF caused reduction in protein and fat. Higher reductions in Na, Mg, Ca, in DF compared with TeMV............

ABSTRACT: Chronic respiratory disease (CRD) and complicated chronic respiratory disease (CCRD) are caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG). Infected birds show respiratory and reproductive problems which lead to severe production losses in poultry industry. Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) has been isolated in chickens and free flying birds (FFB) in various parts of the world. Therefore the current study was to determine the prevalence of MG infection and also to isolate MG from commercial chickens (broilers, layers and indigenous chicken) and FFB in Selangor. Broiler chickens and FFB at farms showed a high prevalence of MG infection based on serology and DNA detection...........

Title | : | Assessment of Damage Due to Callosobruchus Maculatus (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) Infestation on Germination and Nutrient Quality of Vigna Unguiculata L. (Walp) |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | A. A. J. Mofunanya || E. E. Namgbe |
ABSTRACT: This research was conducted to assess Callosobruchus maculatus infestation effect on germination and nutrient quality of Vigna unguiculata L. ANOVA depicted that infested grains had lower germination when compared with the non-infested. Results revealed an initial increase in germination followed by a progressive decrease for infested and non-infested seeds. Highest percentage germination for infested and non-infested seeds were (16.4 and 48.9%) for sandy soil, (18.4 and 50.0%) for loamy soil and (17.4and 49.2%) for clay soil. The study revealed significant (p≤0.05) reductions and increases in all the nutritional components investigated in infested and non-infested V...........
