Abstract: Environmental mycobacteria are responsible for skin infections in humans and animals. In Cote d'Ivoire, very little information is available concerning the presence of these environmental mycobacteria except for the one that causes Buruli ulcer (M. ulcerans). In Côte d'Ivoire almost all regions are affected. It is a real public health problem. The mode of transmission and environmental sources are not well known. The presence of these mycobacteria in the environment would be linked to several physical and chemical factors favoring their growth and proliferation. This would be a significant risk for people in permanent contact with the environment. This study was conducted in order to determine the environmental factors that may influence the presence of mycobacteria in Cote d'Ivoire.
