Title | : | Mergers and Acquisitions in Indian Banking Sector: Pre-Post Analysis of Performance Parameters |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Ms. Sohini Ghosh || Dr. Sraboni Dutta |
Abstract: Economic liberalisation in the early nineties has helped Indian financial institutions for comprehensive growth. Banking sector in India has been one of the top performers in the markets. Banks opted for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) as tactical means of corporate restructuring. The objective of this study is to explore the overall strategic impact of M&A in this sector. In this paper, we have concentrated on 10 M&A deals in the Indian banking sector during a timeframe spanning from 2000 to 2010. The focus of our study is to measure the change in performance levels of the banks, if any, in the post merger phase as compared to the pre merger ones through selected HR and financial parameters. The findings indicate a non-significant change in performance in the post merger period. Keywords: Banking Sector, HR and Financial Parameters, Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), t testWilcoxon test...

Title | : | Solving Transportation problem with LP: Biopharma Case study |
Country | : | China |
Authors | : | Mohamed Azizi || Mahdi Birafane || Hamza Boueddine |
Abstract:The BioPharma case study is a transportation problem that requires a problem-solving approach to help in making appropriate decisions. The mathematical model formulated from a linear programming (LP) is a powerful tool and was used to solve the transport problem. In this paper the mathematical model formulated has adopted the concept of the new capacitated transportation model because; the company's shipments are directly from a supply point to a demand point. This is a special transport problem model and is used to determine the optimal total cost from the feasible solution of the decision variables. The model requires input data on prices, demand, and plant capacity to solve for the optimal solution. By help of the Solver Tool, the optimal solution was computed and the new shipment plan was achieved and is illustrated by Figure 4 to portray the optimal network flow. The new shipment plan enables the company to cut down 12% of its cost.

Title | : | Corporate Governance Mechanisms and Financial Performance of Commercial Banks in Kenya |
Country | : | Kenya |
Authors | : | Muganda Munir Manini || Umulkher Ali Abdillahi |
Abstract: The role of effective corporate governance mechanisms as key components of prudent financial management has become an issue of global significance and has received new urgency due to various corporate scandals and failure. This study seeks to examine the impact of corporate governance mechanisms (audit committee size, board gender diversity and board size) on banks' profitability based on the annual reports of forty two banks in Kenya in the period 2014. The study controls for the effect of bank size and capital of the banks. The study utilized a correlational research design and was based on the agency theory. Using multiple regression as a method of estimation, the results reveal that audit committee size, board gender diversity and bank capital have no significant effect on bank profitability in the selected sample. The regression results indicate that board size negatively influences financial performance; whereas bank size is positively associated with financial performance. The study suggests that banks with effective corporate governance mechanisms may improve financial performance depending on the measure used although not all corporate governance mechanisms are significant. The study is significant because it can aid the policy makers in the formulation of policies, which can be effectively implemented for better and easier regulation of banks. The findings of the study have significant managerial and theoretical implications. Keywords: Board mechanisms, bank profitability, board size, audit committee, Kenya..

Title | : | The Impact Of Third Party Payers To Achieve Breakeven For New Private Hospitals -Case Study In Malaysia |
Country | : | Malaysia |
Authors | : | AR.Abdul Aziz || N.A.Azizan |
Abstract:Third party payers consist of managed care organizations (MCOs) , insurances and other companies that issue guaranty letters for their staff to seek treatment at the private hospitals. In Malaysia, the growth of the medical and health insurance (MHI) were due to the inflation in medical costs, demographics changes and an increase of medical services utilization and many Malaysians had turned to the private insurance industry to finance their healthcare spending due to the increasing trend of total spending of healthcare. In this study , a qualitative design was selected to conduct a case study of three new private hospitals in Malaysia namely Hospital A, Hospital B and Hospital C. Data were collected from various literatures : Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM), Finance Manager of Hospital A and Chief Executive Officers of Hospital B and Hospital C. The principle of collecting data was based on the year the hospital started business until the hospital achieved breakeven and generated profit and this principle applied to Hospital A, B and C. For Hospital A, data were collected from year 2005 to year 2008 where as for Hospital B, data were collected from year 2006 to year 2009. In the case of Hospital C, data were collected from year 2009 to year 2011. Based on the finding of this research , it was found that MCOs, Insurance and other companies had contributed to high generation of revenue for Hospital A, Hospital B and Hospital C. For Hospital A, 48.78% was constributed for the first year, reduced to 46.67% in the second year but increased again to 49.01% in third year. For Hospital B, the contribution for the first year was 53%, increased to 56% in second year and 68% in third year. For Hospital C, 63% was contributed by the three sectors in the first year , increased to 68% in second year and 69% in third year. According to life insurance statistic 2012, medical insurance will enjoy continuous growth as Malaysia moving towards high income nation. Therefore new private hospitals must move quickly to be registered as hospital panel for insurance companies to enjoy the benefit.

Title | : | Effect of Information Technology Outsourcing on the Performance of Banks in Kenya: Application of the Balanced Scorecard |
Country | : | Kenya |
Authors | : | Vivian Waithira Mungai || Christopher Moturi |
Abstract: The study sought to look at Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) practices in the Kenyan banking sector and the effect it had on performance. Balance Scorecard was used to measure performance as it considers both financial and non-financial aspects. Design/methodology/approach: The study took the form of a descriptive survey design with a target population of 14 commercial banks operating in Kenya. Primary data was collected from structured questionnaires and secondary data was collected from the banks past financial records. Findings: Thestudy revealed that Connectivity and Help desk support were the most outsourced IT functions in the commercial banks. The study also revealed the two main drivers for ITO were strategic focus and cost reduction. The main challenge the commercial banks faced during the ITO process was lack of a proper cost benefit analysis and loss of control. The study further revealed that ITO has a positive and significant effect on financial performance, learning and growth, customer satisfaction and internal processes.
