Abstract: The cognitive learning outcomes of physics is an indicator of success in learning. To obtain good physics learning result, it needs combination of media and learning model which able to construct students understanding. The use of virtual laboratory in guided inquiry learning models aims to train students to discover concepts independently and construct their knowledge. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of virtual laboratory in guided inquiry learning model to the cognitive learning outcomes of physics students. This research is a quasi experimental research with posttest only control group design. The study involved 58 students divided into two groups, the experimental group and the control group. Data were analyzed using Anova one way test.............

Abstract: This research is a quasi-experimental research that aims to determine the effect of the application of guided inquiry learning model to critical thinking skills. The research variables consist of independent variables in the form of guided inquiry learning model and dependent variable in the form of critical thinking skills. The research was conducted at SMAN 1 Jonggat class XI IPA with population of 360 students and samples of 72 students who divided into 2 treatment classes namely experimental class and control class. Data on critical thinking skills were collected through the description test and analyzed using the ancova test at 5% significance level. The results of the analysis obtained a significance value of 0.00 <0.05 indicating that there is a significant influence of guided inquiry model on the critical thinking skills. Thus, it can be concluded that the guided inquiry model significantly influences the critical thinking skills of learners.

Abstract: This study determined pupils' perceptions on corporal punishment (CP) in enhancing discipline in primary schools in Tanzania. It focused on pupils' perceptions on CP's influence on enhancing school learning; in shaping pupils' behaviours; and on enhancing pupils' confidence and self-control. The study used 120 respondents from five primary schools based in Kinondoni District in Dar es Salaam. Data was collected through questionnaire and interviews; and was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. This study indicates that the use of CP was common in the selected schools; it was mainly used as a mechanism of controlling pupils. The results showed that most respondents agreed that CP helped them to achieve their academic goals by enhance learning processes although none in the conversation described the connection between CP and learning processes or learning skills.......

Abstract: This article presents 2 studies that investigate the role of intonation as a perceptual cue that regulates turn taking in English and Tunisian Arabic (TA) conversations. Study 1 is based on exposing native speakers of English and Tunisian EFL learners of English to English isolated, filtered, and contextualised speech. They were asked to judge the turn type, a probable speaker change, and the cue used for their judgements. Study 2 is based on exposing the same TA respondents to TA data, following the same three tests. Results show that the two languages share the following features. Turn leave was indicated by a drop in energy, in inhales, and a fall in pitch (L%) at the end of the intonation phrase unit. Turn hold was indicated by a high final pitch contour (H%), an audible intake of breath, inter-pauses, filled pauses and a boundary mid level tone. Turn Take was identified by a rise of pitch (H*) in comparison with prior speech, after a low final pitch contour (L%), after a level or high final pitch contour (by interruption/overlap), after pauses and decrease in intensity. Besides, explicit instruction on intonation did not give valuable results as was expected ..

Abstract: This study aims to: 1) develop problem-based learning devices that meet valid, practical, and effective criteria, 2) improve students' metacognition abilities by using problem-based learning devices developed. This development research uses Four-D development model completed in four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. Learning devices generated from this research are: learning implementation plan (RPP), student activity sheet (LAS), teacher handbook (BPG), student book (BS), and metacognition ability test (TKM). Subjects in this study were students of class XI in SMA Negeri 1 SeiSuka, while the object in this study is a problem-based learning devices developed on linear program materials. The result of the research shows that: 1) Learning devices developed meet the valid, practical and effective criteria in terms of their respective criteria, 2) there is improvement of students' metacognition ability using problem-based learning devices developed.
