Abstract: In this paper functional approximations for the parameters of a DC machine are proposed. These nonlinear algebraic approximations are based on the experimental data that are obtained by carrying out several steady state and transient tests, besides, this method links mathematics and practical analysis of electromechanical systems, allowing students to improve their academic performance and comprehension by comparing estimated values with measured data. An excellent dynamic model results of combining the well known state space description and these parametric functional approximations. This augmented model provides reliable results even during demanding large-excursion transient conditions.
