Abstract: The present study examined what strategies are more or less common for learning vocabulary among EFL university students at Lampung University in Lampung, Indonesia.According to Schmitt's classification, vocabulary learning strategies for this study are classified as determination, social, memory, cognitive, and metacognitive strategies. A questionnaire adapted from the taxonomy of vocabulary learning strategies (VLS) developed by Schmitt (1997) was administered to 74 EFL students (18 males and 56 females). Moreover, semi-structured interviews were also carried out with ten students who completed the written questionnaire to obtain more information about their beliefs and attitudes dealing with vocabulary learning strategies. The findings indicatedthat guessing from context and dictionary use strategies were the most popular strategies, while asking the teacher or peers for meaning were rarely used.

Abstract: School dropout is a universal problem. Child schooling is determined by several individual characteristics and standard living variables. This study used sequential probit model in analyzing data from 27,913 Somaliland households. The results show that parental education, household living standard, and household head are significantly associated with the school enrolment and attainment. School progression, particularly, among girls, is less likely influenced by marital status, child sex, household size and the sex of household head. About 64% of primary students failed to go to secondary school. In this study, we present a comprehensive overview of both school dropout and progression determinants. Based on the findings that, early marriages and child sex affect school continuation negatively, this study recommends the promotion of gender equity control measure to reduce school gender biases..

Abstract: In order to characterize the epistemological models of medical sciences of use in medical training, the study was carried out from the field of philosophical hermeneutics. From the analysis of documentary sources a horizon of understanding of the historical evolution of the theoretical models of medical sciences is constructed. Recovering the study of Antonio Arredondo, 11 explanatory models of the health-disease process are identified, which are grouped into 6 epistemological models: deterministic, animistic, ecological triad, risk approach, sociocultural approach, systemic approach. Two fundamental aspects stand out in relation to medical education: the conception of the ontological, epidemiological and healthcare dimension of the disease; and the application of the principle of causality to the genesis and evolution of the disease. It is concluded that the dimensions of the disease and the causal relationship are the axes to support the model of the natural and social history of the health-disease process as an epistemological model for the medical sciences and their teaching.
