Abstract: A questionnaire survey consisting of 399 family heads was conducted at Polewali Mandar residents to evaluate community participation through Social Emotional Skills, Disposition and Motivation (HR). This study also discussed the relationship between HR variables on waste management. The data analyzed showed that the family groups studied had very positive social emotional skills and dispositions to take part in handling and managing waste. However, respondents showed low motivation about various steps in waste management. HR in waste management is influenced by community participation. Abstract:Processing of metals have been increased greatly in recent years. As a result, quantities of waste material and pollutants have also increased. The present research work deals with the study of some of the important physicochemical and heavy metal parameters of Waste Water of Metal Processing Industries. In this study, like; physicochemical and heavy metal parameters PH, COD, BOD, TDS, TSS, DO, TOC, Oil and Grease percentage, Cd, Cr, Ni, Pb, Hg, Cu, Zn, Fe, Mg, Mn and bacterial and fungal species from wastewater samples were analyzed. Abstract:The problem of household waste and its disposals is still an issue that requires urgent attention by everyone concerned about the wellbeing of the environmentincluding the government. This study was conducted on the residential houses of Tudun-Wada in Billiri LGA of Gombe state. The assessment was carried out using random sampling administration of questionnaires to gather information from the respondents. The sample consists of 290 respondents. The data collected was analysed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that majority of the respondents are females within the age of 21-30. The household with 8 people and above having the majority with 43%. Majority of the people are low income earners and mostly secondary certificate holders and therefore have little understanding about the ideal of proper waste disposal methods. Recommendations were made based on the findings of the assessment.

Abstract: Aims and Objectives: To study the effect of pretreatment and thawing methods on qualities of frozen Toona sinensis sprouts.
Methodology: Four different pretreatment (blanching and cooling) methods were conducted including WW, SW, WS and SS. Three thawing methods were included: 1) room temperature and air (Air); 2) 4°C fridge (Fridge); 3) tap water (Water). Weight loss, defoliation rate, vitamin C, chlorophyll content, total flavones, total phenolic content and sensory evaluation were determined during processing. Results: Among four pretreatments, SS exhibited the best sensory properties, the lowest defoliation rate, the highest total flavones content after 7 freeze-thaw cycles. Samples of thawing at fridge possessed the highest vitamin C, reducing sugar, chlorophyll content, total flavones and phenolic content.......

Abstract: The use of bacterial loads in clogged drainage systems for the bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated soil was investigated. Soil samples were contaminated with diesel, engine oil and petrol. The contaminated soil samples were inoculated with cultured bacteria isolated from clogged drainage systems and monitored for 56 days. Results obtained indicate that effective biodegradation process occurred in a neutral to slightly alkaline condition (pH 7.0 – 8.0) and temperature range of 27 to 29oC. Pseudomonas, Micrococcus, Acinetobacter, Bacillus cereus and Providencia species actively participated in the bioremediation process.........

Abstract: The main objective of this study was to determine the level of percieved benefit andbarriertowards the uptake of and willingness to enrol into the health insurance scheme in Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria. A cross sectional survey design was employed in this study, a total number of 335 respondents participated in this study. A structured and validated questionnaire with reliability 0.746 was used for data collection and thereafter administered to the participants through direct approach. Multi stage sampling technique method was adopted in administering 195 questionnaires on civil servants while purposive sampling was used to administer 140 questionnaires on artisans. The questionnaire was divided into seven (7) sections in order to get data on respondent's demographic characteristics, awareness, attitude, perception, perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits and perceived barriers to health insurance..........

Abstract: This research was carried out to investigate the rate of wear of a metal burr in food milling machine and the presence of iron filings in milled flour. A metal burr made of cast iron was used in a grain milling machine. Corn grains were milled at the same rate every month for five months. It was observed that, the rate of wear of the burr reduced with time. About 0.88 kg which represents 44 % of the original burrs was worn out at the end of the five months. About 90 % of the filings from the burr were found to be included in the milled flour at its finest particle size. Owing to the fact that the presence of iron filings is poisonous to the health, recommendations were made on how to prevent/minimize the filings from entering milled flours. This research will help reduce the rate of food contaminations during post-harvest processing of bio-materials and also safeguard people's health through food security.
