Abstract: Anemia is a very serious health problem in India and most common nutritional problems in many parts of the world. We estimated the different types of prevalence of anemia in children, an observational study. We collected data from 140 pediatric patients. The study had been conducted for six months and the required data was collected. We included 140 pediatric patients who are anemic irrespective of their gender and age..........

Title | : | Genetic Linkage of Biochemical Mutants of Neurospora crassa Induced with Ultraviolet Radiation |
Country | : | Bangladesh |
Authors | : | Apurba Lal Ray |
Abstract: Neurospora crassa is a haploid organism and its haploid chromosome number is seven. It has also seven linkage groups. 2 biochemical mutants such as leu 299a and trp 101a of N. crassa were obtained by mutation with UV radiation and were used for the study of genetic linkage. Mutant leucine (leu 299a) was found to be linked with leu-3(R 156)A of linkage group I and tryptophan (trp 101a) was found to be linked with trp-2 (75001)A of linkage group VI. Genetic map of leu 299a with the marker leu-3(R 156)A gave a distance of 16.16 CM and distance of trp 101a mutant with the marker trp-2 (75001)A is 18.63 CM.

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr Rashmi Sharma And Ashok Gupta |
Abstract: The development of an organism is a complex process of embryogenesis involved cell proliferation, differentiation, migration and organogenesis. Teratology is the branch of biology that deals with abnormal development . Many agents interfering the development process can cause malformations in the embryo. The study of these congenital abnormalities is called teratology and agents which are responsible for causing these malformations are called teratogens.....

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Thangamalathi.S || Manjula.K |
Abstract: Fish serum may reflect status of many biochemical processes in the metabolism. Heavy metals may alter serum biochemical parameters in fishes. In this study, the effect of Cr(VI) and Al(III) in fresh water fish I.Punctatus and neutralize these metals by using dead fungal biomass. Activity of serum enzymes AST, ALT, ALP, CPK, LDH and α – amylase in aluminium and chromium exposed fish. The above study suggests that serum biochemical parameters could be used as important and sensitive biomarkers in ecotoxicological studies concerning the effects of metal contamination and fish health.

Authors | : | Chukwunonyelum Ike || Odiba Arome || Edeke Affiong || Anunobi Ogechukwu || Ukegbu Chimere |
Abstract: Hepatotoxicity, with subsequent leakage of important liver enzymes has been postulated as one of the mechanisms of naphthalene toxicity. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of oral administration of naphthalene dissolved in olive oil on metabolism, using male Wistar albino rats, and to compare it to the control group after 14 days of administration. The twelve rats used for the experiment were divided into 4 groups. Groups 1, 2, 3 received 49 mg, 98 mg and 147 mg/kg b.w (body weight) of naphthalene respectively whereas, group 4 (control) took only the vehicle (olive oil)......

Abstract: Kidney plays an important role in our body such as excretes metabolic wastes, maintaining the equilibrium between fluid and electrolyte, control of blood pressure, erythropoiesis etc. Loss of kidney mass and kidney function alters the length and size of kidney. Many diseases adversely affect the kidney leading to its enlargement or reduction. Renal dimensions are also greatly affected by age, gender and body mass index. The methods of assessment of changes in the dimensions of visceral organs by using clinical methods are difficult and unreliable and there may occur subjective errors......

Title | : | Genotoxic Effect of Garlic Extract on Root Tips of Allium Cepa L. |

Authors | : | Essam A. A. Sadaqa || Saeed S. Mohammed || Sameer H Qari And Khaled S. Ali1 |
Abstract: The experiment was carried out to study the inhibition of the root growth and cytotoxic effects of garlic aqueous extract on onion bulbs (Allium cepa L.). The onion bulbs were treated with different concentrations of garlic aqueous extract (0, 5, 10, 15, 20 mg / l) for 72 hours in plastic laboratory tubes. The results indicated that the mitotic index and root growth rate of onion were considerably decreased in comparison to the control. We found that the cytotoxic effect of garlic extracts depends on the concentration and the exposure time. The EC50 value of garlic extract was 5 mg/l after 72 hours and the mitotic index value was (9%) at the same concentration (5 mg/l)....

Abstract: A study has been undertaken to isolate potent rare actinobacteria from Mangrove ecosystem of Nizampatnam, Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, India. Among the 20 different actinobacterial strains isolated, one potent strain with broad spectrum antagonistic activity was identified as Saccharomonospora oceani VJDS-3. Attempts were made to optimize the cultural parameters for enhanced antimicrobial metabolite production. Production of bioactive metabolites by the strain was high in yeast extract malt extract dextrose broth as compared to other tested media.....

Abstract: Background and Objectives:- Inborn errors of metabolism(IEM) are genetically inherited diseases ,though individually rare, together they constitute a significant percentage of children presenting with acute problems. Diagnosis and follow up of IEM is integrated in several developed countries basic health care packages. This service is still limited in many developing countries including Iraq. Aim: We aimed to create awareness in the medical sectors about the existence and magnitude of the problem of IEM, to take steps towards setting the proper requirements for diagnosis of metabolic disorders, including neonatal screening program .......
