Title | : | The Other Side of the Story: the for-Profit Adjunct Faculty Model in Higher Education |
Country | : | |
Authors | : | Dr. B. Hollis || Dr. K. Garth-James |
Abstract: Since the 1980s an expansion of adjunct teaching professionals in post-secondary institutions are assuming academic tasks as instructing, and advising as well as mentoring that is a normative responsibility of investing in students' emotional growth. Research materials on adjunct faculty experiences in public, nonprofit and private (proprietary) colleges and universities campuses shows extensive discussions by administrators, and faculty that hiring adjunct faculty is ―wrong‖ (Boynton, 2015) with inefficient ―unintended consequence‖ (Jaeger & Ethan, 2009; Smith, 2008), and adverse effects on student performance (Kezar, 2010). The utilization of full-time faculty in academia has dropped by 25% and the use of adjunct faculty has increased exponentially over the last 30 years (Mangness, 2016).

Abstract: Nowadays, foreign language skills are very important for working in multicultural and multi-language environments. Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is considered as an effective method to learn a language. In Vietnam, CLT is not strange, but how frequently it is used in EFL classroom is still a question. A survey on students' opinions about frequency of using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) activities in their General English (GE) classes was conducted at Can Tho University in semester 2, academic year 2015 - 2016. The study aims to find out how frequently lecturers use CLT activities in their classrooms. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected via a questionnaire for students who participated..........

Title | : | Learning of Business Statistics: Online Versus Classroom Courses |
Country | : | USA |
Authors | : | Rolando Pena-Sanchez |
Abstract: This article describes the undergraduate students' academic progress through online and classic classroom (face to face) business statistics courses during the period 2012-2016; where, each student must maintain updated his/her GPA as a preliminary requirement specified by the Office of Financial Aid in order to get a scholarship. A nonparametric statistical technique named "the Friedman's test" was selected (whose justification is explained via the Levene's statistic) to perform the data analysis. Given that, the dropout of a course is an event that is associated to the learning-teaching process, this report focuses on the statistical summary of the students' tendency about the dropouts (withdrawals) of their courses during the regular academic periods of fall, spring, and summer...........

Country | : | Kenya |
Authors | : | Florence M. Sikolia || Stephen F. Sikolia |
Abstract: Biology as a Science has enormous practical applications on our daily lives. However, just like mathematics and other science subjects, performance in biology in the national examinations has been relatively low. As a result, the Kenyan government in collaboration with Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) launched Strengthening of Mathematics and Science in Secondary Education (SMASSE) project in July 1998. SMASSE embarked on in-service training of serving teachers of mathematics and science with an aim of making them better teachers. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of implementation of SMASSE initiative and biology performance at K.C.S.E in public secondary schools in Kakamega North Sub County, Kenya..........

Title | : | Fostering Critical Thinking Skill through Optimizing Science Process Skills in Physics Learning |
Country | : | Indonesia |
Authors | : | Khaeruddin || Mohamad Nur || Wasis |
Abstract: Low science process skills is along with low students' critical thinking skill. The result of this research indicated that there was an increase of the score in critical thinking skill before and after learning process by optimizing the science process skill. Even the correlation inferential analysis showed that any change score of science process skill could cause the change of the score of critical thinking skill as much as 0.02 in the same direction. The result of this analysis indicated that there was a relationship between critical thinking skill and science process skill. When the science process skill increased, the critical thinking skill of students also increased. In other words, if the science process skill was optimized in learning process, the critical thinking skill developed too.
