Abstract: The enzyme arginase metabolizes L-arginine to L-ornithine and urea. Besides its fundamental role in the hepatic urea cycle, arginase is also expressed the immune system of mice and man. While significant interspecies differences exist regarding expression, subcellular localization and regulation of immune cell arginase, associated pathways of immunopathology are comparable between species. Minimal Arginine Agar (MAA) medium was prepared and used for the screening of bacterial isolates for the production of L-arginase. Colonies that formed highest pink zones were picked and maintained on the agar slants at 4°C. The zone of colour change from the agar.........

Abstract: The effects of orally administered aqueous leaf extract of Vernonia amygdalina on serum glucose and lipid profile of albino rats were determined. Adult healthy rats of both sexes of about eleven weeks old were randomly assigned into six groups following acclimatization to laboratory and handling conditions. Animals in group A were not intoxicated (normal control) while group B were intoxicated and were gives access to food and water. Animals in groups C, D, E and F were intoxicated and were treated with insulin (40mg/kg), Atorvastatin(30mg/kg), low dose (200mg/kg) and high dose (400mg/kg) extracts of Vernonia amygdalina respectively. Diabetes was induced with a single dose of alloxan (100mg/kg) body weight and serum glucose was taken 72h after induction.........

Abstract: We report an unusual case of seborrheic keratosis (SK) of theright external auditory canal in 78-year-old female patient, revealed by right malignant otitis externa andcaused impaired hearing, by obstructing the external auditory meatus.Surgical removal of lesion was performed and histopathological examination revealed association of SK with invasive Squamous cell carcinomas. We also reviewed and discuss the aetiology, clinical and histopathological featuresand treatment strategy of these disfiguring lesions.

Abstract: Acetylcholinesterase inhibition is considered as the most suitable therapeutic strategy for Alzheimer's disease. As synthetic drugs lack selective activity, efficacy and bioavailability, many traditional remedies have been explored for improving cognitive function. In the present study, indigenous plants namely Mandookaparni, Liquorice, Gaduchi, Long pepper and Ukshi were screened for acetylcholinesterase inhibition. Methanolic extracts of selected plants were prepared by soxhlet extraction and subjected to preliminary solvent-solvent extraction using dichloromethane......

Abstract: Cervical spondylosis is a chronic degenerative condition of the cervical spine that affects the vertebral bodies and intervertebral disks of the neck (in the form of, for example, disk herniation and spur formation), as well as the contents of the spinal canal (nerve roots and/or spinal cord). Some authors also include the degenerative changes in the facet joints, longitudinal ligaments, and ligamentum flavum. Spondylosis progresses with age and often develops at multiple interspaces. Chronic cervical degeneration is the most common cause of progressive spinal cord and nerve root compression. Spondylotic changes can result in stenosis of the spinal canal, lateral recess, and foramina. Spinal canal stenosis can lead to myelopathy1, whereas the latter 2 can cause radiculopathy.........

Abstract: Gallstone disease (GD) is a worldwide disease and it remains to be one of the most common health problems leading to surgical intervention. GB stone formation is multifactorial &many theories have been put forwardto explainthe mechanism of stoneformation. It is not fully clear if symptomatic gallstone disease is associated with a specific pattern of some hormonal abnormalities in the serum of male with symptomatic gallstone. The objective is to find the relationship between serum levels of sex hormones (free testosterone, SHBG, dihydrotestosterone (DHT),estradiol (E2), and progesterone)and gallstone formation in men. This cross-sectional study was carried on 50 males' patients and 37 healthy males as control group. After 12 hrs fasting, blood samples were collected from all subjects to evaluate the serum levels of thesex hormones (free testosterone, SHBG, dihydrotestosterone........

Abstract: Generation theory was developed as a tool for studying self-reproducing systems. In this paper we show that this theory can be applied to a search for common ancestors of living organisms. We give two algorithms with flowcharts in pseudocode for finding common ancestors of a set of microbes and describe the connections with the genography problem.

Abstract: This study is designed to examine the ethanol leaves extract of Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Nees family acanthaceae for its in vitro antimicrobial potential against strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae, Escherisha coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans at five concentrations; 200, 100, 50, 25 and 12.5mg/ml respectively by agar well diffusion method to ascertain its folkloric claim to treat various infectious diseases. The extracts showed significant broad spectrum antibacterial activity. The minimum inhibitory concentration of the bacteria ranged between 7mg/mL and 12.5mg/mL while that of Candida albicans was 1.42mg/mL. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of terpenoids, tannins, flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, reducing sugar, steroids........

Abstract: Leishmania is auxotroph to folic acid, antifolates drug inhibit the synthesis and conversion of folate derivatives. In this study, cytotoxic effect of methotrexate was investigated on the procyclic promastigotes proliferation of L. donovani. The results showed a significant (p ≥ 0.05) difference in growth of treated groupsat high concentrations (1000, 500, 250, 125.5) μM after 24, 48 hrs., while at 72 hrs. significant difference was observed at all concentration. The IC50 values was measurable after 24, 48 and 72 hrs. and it was 174.238, 52.283 and 109.175 μM, respectively. The present study showed the cytotoxic effect of methotrexate on the proliferation of promastigotes of the visceral type of Leishmania.

Abstract: Parents play an important role in the activities of their children because they are frequently in contact with these adolescents and they help to shape their behaviour and the social context in which they grow up. They are therefore expected to watch-over their children's sexual activities as well as identify, sieve and package information and services for them. A study to determine the role of parents in adolescents' sexual behaviour in co-educational secondary schools in Cross River State was done. The specific objectives were to determine parents'/adolescents' relationship, the degree to which parents monitor and supervise their adolescents, assess the level at which parents communicate with their adolescents and how much material support parents give to their adolescents. Parents of adolescents in secondary school were used. Two schools were randomly selected and twenty.......
