Abstract: Temporomandibular joint ankylosis is the bony or fibrous adhesion of the temporomandibular joint parts causing limitations in opening the mouth, difficulty during mastication, speech and oral hygiene as well as contributing to mandibular growth. Trauma is the leading cause of TMJ ankylosis (TMJA) which is an interaction between bony areas within the TMJ. Condromas are benign tumors of mature hyaline cartilage, often damaging the anterior maxilla and condyles. When chondromas emerge from the condyles, and depending on the size, it causes a limitation in opening of the mouth. Here, we present a case of a 20-year-old man who had bony ankylosis of the left TMJ. Diagnostic hypotheses of benign chondroma and ankylosis wer made. Surgical excision confirmed bony ankylosis with sclerotic exophytic bony overgrowth.

Abstract: The Clinic of the Bashkir State Medical University presents data collected based on 134 different bariatric surgical procedures in patients suffering from obesity. An original technique of laparoscopic gastroplication is described, which makes it possible to reduce the risks of developing postoperative complications. It is simple, low risk and economially efficient. The method was clinically tested and applied in 14 patients with morbid obesity. The majority of patients (83.3%) achieved a persistent decrease in body weight. Prospects for the development of the method are seen in the specification of indications and the selection of patients for surgery. Further study of the results of the use of laparoscopic gastroplication will determine its place among restrictive methods for weight loss.

Abstract: Background: The traditional definitions of pre-eclampsia based on hypertension and proteinuria has been recently revised by the International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy (ISSHP) and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG). To study the impact of new ISSHP definitions on the incidence of pre-eclampsia Materials and Methods: This was an observational study on 430 subjects. Subjects with gestational age > 24 weeks and hypertension in pregnancy were classified as per the ISSHP (old) and the ISSHP (new) classification. Results: The incidence of preeclampsia......

Title | : | Takotsubo Syndrome: A Case Report and Review |
Country | : | Brazil |

Abstract: Background: Takotsubo syndrome is a reversible condition characterized by transient left ventricular dysfunction, elevation of cardiac enzymes and no coronary obstructions. It usually occurs after physical or emotional stress, predominantly in postmenopausal women. Case summary: a 50-year-old-woman was accepted in the emergency room with chest pain at rest (about 3 hours) with irradiation to the back. Admission ECG showed ST elevation in anteroseptal wall. Troponin I was high. She was submitted to cardiac catheterization, which revealed no arterial obstruction, apical hypokinesis suggesting Takotsubo syndrome. Conclusion: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS)is an acquired cardiomyopathy, and the clinical presentation is similar to acute myocardial infarction (chest pain), electrocardiographic changes, elevated cardiac biomarkers. Many pathophysiological mechanisms have been proposed for this syndrome but is still unknown. Further randomized studies are needed to elucidate this condition..

Abstract: Introduction Histopathology is the gold standard to diagnose OSF; however, it is a traumatic process with a long wait for the final diagnosis. Because OSF is a diffuse disease, a tissue sample taken from a single location may not represent the disease's true extent or severity. Ultrasonography has been used to examine soft tissues surrounding the oral cavity for the past few years, which allows for follow-up possibilities. This study aimed to use ultrasonography to assess submucosal thickness in OSF patients and compare it to normal mucosa.......

Abstract: Background: Blunt abdominal trauma (BAT) caused mostly due to road traffic accidents is a common emergency requiring high degree of suspicion, investigation and management. Trauma is the leading cause of blunt abdominal injury. Blunt abdominal traumas pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenge often even to experienced surgeons. Early diagnosis and effective management help in decreasing mortality in blunt abdominal trauma. This study was conducted to evaluate the clinical spectrum and treatment modalities used for patients presenting with blunt abdominal trauma at NEIGRIHMS Hospital, Shillong. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 100 patients of BAT who were managed during the time period between January 2016 to December 2021. Documentation of patients included identification, history, clinical findings, diagnostic tests, operative findings, operative procedures, and complications during the hospital stay and subsequent follow-up period which were recorded on a patient proforma specially prepared. Data was.......

Abstract: Introduction Despite being a potentially preventable cancer, almost five thousand deaths occur every year in Bangladesh due to cervical carcinoma. Studies suggests different infections organisms like human papilloma virus and Chlamydia trachomatis can play a carcinogenic role in this case. Hence the objective of the study is to explore the association between Chlamydia trachomatis infection and cervical carcinoma among Bangladeshi women. Methods This was a case-control study conducted in the department of Gynecology of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Dhaka from July to December, 2006. Histopathologically......

Abstract: Background: In recent years, trends for aesthetic dentistry surprisingly increased. The demands of patients for tooth-colored restorations and the availability of new types of dental ceramics with good mechanical properties have driven increased use of ceramic materials in a variety of restorative restorations. Materials and Methods: Three lithium disilicate glass ceramic materials were used in this study: IPS E.max CAD (Ivoclar Vivadent Liechtenstein), Rosetta SM (HASS corporation korea) and Upcera (Shenzhen upcera co.,Ltd china). A total of 42 discs were prepared with diameter (10 mm) and thickness 0.5mm and 1mm. Discs were divided into three groups according to the material; Group (1)Emax, Group(2)Rosetta sm and Group(3)upcera. Each group was further subdivided into two subgroups according to thickness; Group (A) 0.5mm and Group (B) 1mm. Specimens.......
