Abstract: Background: Peripheral venous cannulation is indispensable in the practice of modern medicine. This study aims to investigate the incidence of thrombophlebitis in post-operative patients having peripheral venous cannula and to evaluate some important related risk factors. Methods: This observational study was conducted on 82 patients aged above 18 years admitted post operatively to the surgical ward of a tertiary care hospital during the period of July and August 2014. These patients were visited daily for three days after the surgery and examined for signs of thrombophlebitis: warmth, erythema, tenderness, swelling, palpable venous cord. The risk factors studied in this research were patient age, gender, comorbidities like hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidaemia, smoking, duration of cannulation, cannula size and IV medications used. Thrombophlebitis was graded using Visual Infusion Phlebitis Score suggested by Infusion Nurses Society.

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr.Chetan Raut || Dr.Kunal.S.Sethi |
Abstract: Recent research data have suggested a potential benefit of photodynamic therapy (PDT) in the treatment of periodontitis. However, there is very limited data from controlled clinical trials evaluating the effect of PDT in the treatment of periodontitis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical effects of the adjunctive use of PDT to scaling and root planing in chronic periodontitis patients. Thirty-four sites with chronic periodontitis were randomly treated with scaling and root planing followed by a single episode of PDT (test) or scaling and root planing alone (control).Bleeding score using Sulcular bleeding index 1971, probing depth (PD), gingival recession (GR), and clinical attachment level (CAL) were measured at baseline and 21 days after therapy.At 21 days post-operative, significant differences between the groups with regards to Clinical attachment level, Pocket probing depth, Full mouth bleeding scores were observed.

Title | : | Evaluation of Vitamin D Status in Urban Population Employed In Office Jobs |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Mukherjee Brijesh || Patra Saurav || Sahoo Sibasish |
Abstract: Introduction: Vitamin D Deficiency (VDD) is a major health problem in both the developed and developing countries across the globe. In India, despite of ample sunlight (required for the synthesis of vitamin D endogenously), VDD prevalence has been documented to be in range of 50-90% among all the age groups. Scientific evidence reveals that, in addition to skeletal disorders, Vitamin D is also associated with the risk of cardiovascular diseases, obesity, hypertension and diabetes mellitus etc.

Title | : | Variations on Renal Vessels – a cadaveric study |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Padmaja Vasi M.B.B.S., M.D. |
Abstract: The scientific works to explore normal structure of the human kidney and its different variations are neither new nor recent. The very large number of studies already carried out speaks volumes on the great magnitude of importance of the organ that is the kidney. The kidney as is well known, is a very vital organ on account of different functions that are carried out by it namely removing the excess water products, maintaining the pH of blood, formation of the urine, regulation of blood pressure. The vascular system of the kidney is complex & highly specialised and is remarkably adapted to the function which it has to perform. The origin and course of human renal blood vessels and their variations are of great interest to surgeons and physicians. Although the various individual scientific works on renal vasculatures are concluded, yet the information obtained thereby can never be declared as complete. The studies related to such vital organ are more warranted and useful owing to their clinical importance. The study was conducted to add meaningful information to the existing data pertaining to the blood supply of kidney.

Abstract:Electroactive polycarbazol-9-yl-methanol (PCz-CH2OH), film was formed on Pt electrode surface by oxidative electroplymerization of a new carbazole derivative. Electrochemical polymerization was carried out in a reaction medium containing monomer and 0.1M tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate ) TBABF4( mixture in
acetonitrile (ACN) using repetitive cycling at a scan rate of 100 mV. Electrochemical polymerization of carbazole (Cz) and carbazol-9-yl-methanol(25mM) were studied with cyclic voltammetry on both platinium (Pt) and indioum tin oxide (ITO) electrodes. The polymers were characterized using FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, UV VIS, H1 NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopy.

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. G. Sailaja || Dr. S. Ravindra kishore || Dr. P. Viritha || Dr. N. Kishore Kumar Raju |
Abstract: Anatomical variations of lungs including number, fissure and lobes are important for clinicians. The human lungs are divided by fissures into lobes. The right lung commonly has two fissures, namely oblique and transverse fissure dividing it into superior middle and inferior lobes. The left is commonly divided by oblique fissure into upper and lower lobes. We are presenting a case of absent oblique fissure in left lung of 50-year old female cadaver which was identified during routine dissection of thorax for MBBS students. The segmentation of pulmonary lobes is challenging because of anatomical variations and incomplete fissures. With the development of radiological and endoscopic techniques and the advancement of pulmonary surgery, the knowledge of morphological variations of lung fissures is of utmost importance to clinicians to correctly locate the bronchopulmonary segment during pulmonary lobectomy, and for radiologists to correctly interpret X-rays and CT scans.
