Abstract: Purpose: To report the midterm outcome of displaced neck of femur fractures in the independent adults in the age range 50-65 years, managed with total hip arthroplasty through a lateral approach. Methods: Between 1998 and 2008, a surgeon performed a cemented hip replacement using a modified lateral approach in 50 consecutive patients with garden type III or IV fracture neck of femur. Their clinical records were reviewed with respect to outcomes, with particular reference to complications. Independent review of functional outcome was completed at one year post surgery and final assessment at 10 years post op.

Keywords: A beautiful smile is almost always the foremost priority of a patient coming for the dental treatment but complete oral rehabilitation of patients demanding a beautiful & attractive smile involves the change of both the morphologic aspect of teeth, architecture of oral tissues, and occlusion. An organised and systematic approach is required to analyze, evaluate and resolve esthetic problems predictably. It is of prime importance that final results are not dependant on looks alone. Our ultimate goal as clinicians is to achieve pleasing composition in smile by creating an arrangement of various esthetic, functional elements and improving the overall oral health of the patient. This case presents an interdisciplinary treatment approach for the damaged maxillary anterior teeth to achieve an optimally aesthetic and functional result.

Abstract: Background: Pre-eclampsia is a syndrome affecting all organs and has both maternal and foetal complications. Maternal multi organ vascular endothelial damage in pre-eclampsia leads to excessive leakage of lactate dehydrogenase into the maternal serum. Objective: (1) Role of serum lactate dehydrogenase as a biochemical marker in pre-eclampsia so as to decrease maternal morbidity and mortality. (2) Correlation of the levels of serum lactate dehydrogenase with Severity And Complications Of Pre-Eclampsia.

Abstract: Globally, the incidence and prevalence are increasing. India is its race to become "Word Diabetes Capital". Diabetes is a lifelong serious disease and should be treated as such. Left unchecked, it shortens life. It is not a condition that goes away by itself. Diabetes is defined as a state in which homeostasis of carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism is improperly regulated by insulin. This results primarily in elevated fasting and in postprandial blood glucose levels .

Abstract: Road traffic injuries (RTIs) are included under unintentional injuries. The definition of road traffic fatality varies in different countries and is defined as 'any person killed immediately or dying within 30 days as a result of an injury or accident' (Mohan et al, 2006). According to WHO, RTIs are the sixth leading cause of death in India with a greater share of hospitalizations, deaths, disabilities and socioeconomic losses in young and middle-age populations (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 2004).

Title | : | Lymphomatoid Papulosis –3 Case Reports |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Padmaja Pinjala || G. Manmohan |
Abstract: We present two cases of childhood and one case of adult Lymphomatoid papulosis (LyP), an entity which is commonly misdiagnosed and poorly described in the paediatric dermatology literature. Clinically and histologically, the features of LyP in children can mimic insect bite reaction, with prominent dermal neutrophils and eosinophils. However, CD30 immunohistochemical staining of atypical lymphocytes within a mixed inflammatory infiltrate should point to the diagnosis of LyP. There is no consensus to guide management of childhood LyP due to its rarity and largely unknown natural course. We discuss our experience with LyP in two children who are blood related and one adult case. Although none of our cases have experienced malignant transformation to date and life long monitoring is advocated.

Abstract: Histoid leprosy, once thought to occur in patients on dapsonemonotherapy is a well recognised entity also occurring in patients after multidrug therapy, as well as denovo. Since it resembles many conditions like dermatofibromas, neurofibromas, molluscumcontagiosum, sarcoidosis etc., it is likely to be missed out and hence forms the reservoir of infection. Here we report 5 cases of denovohistoid leprosy out of whom 2 patients developed type 2 reaction. The diagnosis was confirmed by slit skin smears and histopathological examination.
Keywords : denovo, histoid leprosy, spindle shaped cells, type 2 reaction.

Abstract: A 40 year old male patient was admitted with history of nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, loss of weight and severe fatigue with past history of tuberculosis and had ATT for 6 months. Findings in physical examination were mild dehydration, hyper pigmentation of face, hands (creases), elbows and feet, and low blood pressure. Lab evaluation was normal except for raised ESR. Biochemical workup showed hyponatremia, hyperkalemia , and raised Creatinine. Ultrasound of abdomen showed bilateral enlarged adrenals with calcifications, and also thickened ileocaecal junction noted..

Title | : | Role of Weil Felix Test for Rickettsial Infections |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Deepali Danave || Dr. SN Kothadia |
Abstract: Rickettsial diseases are being under reported from India but they are significant contributors of pyrexia. The present study deals with utilization of Weil Felix test (WF) as screening test for diagnosis of rickettsial diseases in patients of fever and rash. Latex agglutination test PROGEN from Tulip Diagnostics (P) Ltd. was used for screening 156 samples out of which 27 samples (17.30%) were positive. Maximum positivity was shown towards OX-2 antigen (88.88%) followed by OX-19 (66.66%) and least towards OX-K (11.11%). Weil Felix test though being non specific is user friendly, non-tedious and cannot be discarded altogether from laboratory set-up.
Key words : Pyrexia, rickettsial infections, Weil Felix test.

Authors | : | Bidyarani Yumnam || Aribam Jaishree Devi || Nongthombam Saratchandra Singh |
Abstract: The cardiovascular system is the first organ system of an embryo to reach a functional state. The heart is supplied by the right and left coronary arteries which arise from the ascending aorta. The artery giving off the posterior interventricular branch is defined as the dominant artery. Materials and method: Thirty fetal hearts ranging from gestational age of 17 wks to 40 wks are studied. Results and observation: Right dominance in 70%, left dominance in 20% and co dominant in 10%. Myocardial bridges are also a common finding in the course of the arteries.

Abstract: During an infectious disease outbreak, it is critical to learn as much as possible about the concerns, knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of the public. Such information can be crucial to the improvement of communication efforts by public health officials and clinicians. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices related to influenza A (H1N1) among the OPD patients of Tertiary Care Hospital, Surat. Methods: A hospital based cross sectional study was carried out in the tertiary Care Hospital; 507 participants were selected by convenient sampling method from different OPDs.

Authors | : | SK Mastan Basha || M. Kiran Kumar || Akbar khan || A.L.Mukherjee |
Abstract: Bone fractures are commonly encountered in today's industrial era. Various treatment modalities were introduced from time to time and each of them had some edge over the previous one. Fractures of the forearm bones may result in severe loss of function unless adequately treated. Excellent results for plate fixation in displaced diaphyseal fractures of both the radius and ulna have been reported by various authors, but only a few authors have focused on plate fixation in the management of open diaphyseal fractures of both the radius and ulna [1-10].
