Abstract: The pulp and periodontium have embryonic, anatomic and functional inter-relationships. The simultaneous existence of pulpal problems and inflammatory periodontal disease can complicate diagnosis and treatment planning. This case report evaluates the efficacy of Alloplast material along with bio-absorbable barrier membrane periocol in the management of fenestration associated with an endo-perio lesion in a right mandibular first molar. A 32-year-old female patient with an endo-perio lesion in the right mandibular first molar was initially treated with endodontic therapy. Patient complaint of pain in the same region after 2 weeks following the endodontic treatment, the patient was then referred to periodontics department, a 5 mm pocket was noticed in the buccal aspect of 46. Fenestration was seen with distal root of 46 after open flap debridement. Defect was treated using graft substitute material along with guided tissue regeneration (GTR) membrane.There was a significant bony fill on radiographic examination. After 6 month there was a significant gain in CAL and PD reduction.

Title | : | Comparison of Handedness Questionairre with Brain Hemisity Questionairre for Determining Brain Dominance in Young Adults |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr Nikhil Victor Dsouza || Dr Prabha Adhikari || M S Kotian |
Abstract: Brain dominance and handedness have been of great interest to physicians and neurologists from time immemorial. While handedness deals with motor dominance and cerebral hemisphere producing language , brain hemisity deals with learning characteristics and behavioural styles. A Edinburgh handedness inventory (EHI) published in 1971 (1) measures hand dominance in daily activities. After nearly 35 years of use of EHI a revision (2) was made in EHI by discarding activities like opening box, broom and drawing and incorporating a new one , that is use of a computer mouse. Likert scale format was added.

Title | : | Morphological Changes Induced By Aqueous Extract of Areca Nut (Areca Catechu) On the Oesophagus of Adult Wistar Rats |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | Adediji, J. A. || Eze, G. I. || Ehimigbai, A. O. |
Abstract: Twenty-four (24) male and female adult Wistar rats weighing between 190 kg – 240 kg were randomly divided into four (4) groups: the Control group (A) received pelletized growers mesh and distilled water for four weeks while groups B, C and D were administered 400 mg/kg, 800 mg/kg and 1200 mg/kg of aqueous extract of areca nut respectively for four (4) weeks consecutively.The animals were sacrificed following 24 hours of fasting using chloroform anaesthesia. The oesophagus from each rat in each group were immediately harvested and processed for histological observations. In the histological assessment of the oesophagus, the aqueous extract of areca nut induced hyperplasia of the oesophageal mucosa at step-wise degrees, as the dosage increased with papillary projection of the mucosa into the sub mucosa region.The results of this study generally revealed that aqueous extract of areca nut caused morphological distortion in the oesophageal mucosa of Wistar rats.

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr.s.naga muneiah || Dr.Akram Shaik || Dr. p.sabitha |
Abstract: chronic lower limb ischemia is the common cause of limb ulceration and is due to atherosclerosis and thrombo angiitis obliterans. Smoking is a major adverse factor for causation and relief of symptoms.The common symptoms are intermittent claudication and rest pain along with ulceration and gangrene. Due to public ignorance the patients present at a later stage and are not relieved of pain by conservative means, requiring surgical teratment in the form of lumbar sympathectomy and major amputations. Limb salvage can be attempted with early presentation and cessation of smoking.

Title | : | Awake Blind Nasal Intubation in Difficult Intubation Scenario |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr A. Rama Krishna Rao || Dr M. Srinivas || Dr R.Supriya |
Abstract: Blind nasal intubation was introduced in 1928 by Stanley Rowbotham and popularized by both Stanley Rowbotham and Evan Magill. In a difficult airway scenario, when combined with topical anesthesia of nasal passages, superior laryngeal nerve block, transtracheal block and appropriate decongestion of airway it is probably the safest and the easiest technique in the opinion of the author. A Prospective study of 30 cases with anticipated difficult airway in a 5 month period from Jan 2015 to May 2015 in Siddhartha Medical college Govt General Hospital was done after approval by ethics committee of the institute as alternative technique of intubation where fibre optic equipment is unavailable. Combined with topical anesthesia of nasal passages superior laryngeal nerve block, transtracheal block and appropriate decongestion of airway awake nasal intubation was done. It is a very useful alternative technique in patients with anticipated difficult airway, when fibreoptic equipment is not available.

Title | : | A Prospective Randomized Controlled Study to Assess the Efficacy of Gabapentin in Attenuating the Haemodynamic Responses during Skull Pin Insertion in Patients Undergoing Elective Craniotomy |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr.Ramkumar Dhanasekaran || Dr. Navin Prashath P || Dr.Thamarai Selvi |
Abstract: Application of skull pins during craniotomy produces a significant haemodynamic response. We hypothesized that oral premedication of gabapentin would attenuate this response. Forty ASA I and II patients of age group 16 – 40 years, scheduled to undergo elective craniotomy for intracranial tumour resection were randomly divided into two groups. Group A received vitamin tablet and group B patients received 900 mg of gabapentin 2 hours before the induction of anaesthesia along with lignocaine scalp infiltrations. We assessed heart rate and blood pressure responses every 1 minute interval after pin insertion until the end of 10 minutes.
