Title | : | Demographic profile of Suppurative keratitis |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr.Bapanapalli Sailaja || Dr.Bapanapalli Lakshmi |
Abstract: Background: Corneal infections are the second most common cause of ocular blindness due to lack of diagnostic facilities and initiation of appropriate antimicrobial therapy. Suppurative Kerititis is defined as loss of corneal epithelium with underlying stromal infiltration and suppuration associated with signs of inflammation with or without hypopyon. The epidemiological pattern and causative agents for suppurative corneal ulcer varies. It is important to determine the aetiology for comprehensive strategy for the diagnosis and treatment of corneal ulcer.............

Title | : | Effect of Olanzapine on Mean Arterial Blood Pressure: An Experimental Study |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Kaustav Saha || Dr. Ratna Agrawal || Dr. Sabita Mohapatra |
Abstract: Introduction: Schizophrenia or psychosis, a major group of CNS disorders which results in serious distortion of one's capacity to recognize reality, affects approximately 1 % of world population. Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic which is efficacious in the treatment of schizophrenia. Orthostatic hypotension is commonly reported as compared to hypotension itself. Thus we propose this study to evaluate hypotensive effect of olanzapine and to delineate its probable mechanism..........

Abstract: Low back pain (LBP) affects approximately 60–90% of adults during some point in their lives. Fortunately, for the large majority of individuals, symptoms are mild and transient, with 90% subsiding within 6 weeks. Chronic low back pain, defined as pain symptoms persisting beyond 3 months, affects an estimated 20–50% of the population. For the minority with intractable symptoms, the impact on quality of life and economic implications are considerable. Despite the high prevalence of low back pain within the general
population, the diagnostic approach and therapeutic options are diverse and often inconsistent, resulting in rising costs and variability in management throughout the country..............

Abstract: Perianal abscess is one of the frequently encountered surgical emergencies by the surgeons, particularly in developing countries. Early identification and effective drainage is the dictum in the management of perianal abscess. But, fistula formation is one of the unwanted complication after surgery, (especially in Subcutaneous perianal abscess & Ischiorectal Fossa abscess), and it has been a challenge to the surgeons from time immemorial. With this background in mind, we advocate a novel idea of draining the subcutaneous type of perianal abscess intra-analy (without external incisions) so that the probability of fistula formation is nullified. At the same time, adequate drainage is obtained with no recurrence so far, in our study.............

Title | : | Comparison of Cuff Pressure Changes Between Air with Oxygen or Nitrous Oxide with Oxygen During General Anaesthesia Using Proseal LMA for Laproscopic Surgery |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr Yogita Patil || Dr Rakesh Narayanswami |
Abstract: Background: LMA exerts pressure on the pharyngeal mucosa which may lead to throat discomfort. Nitrous oxide is known to diffuse into air containing cavity.Nitrous oxide use causes increase in proseal LMA(PLMA)cuff pressure was proved, but whether the resulting increased cuff pressure leading to laryngopharyngeal morbidity which is clinically important remains unclear. We therefore, tested the hypothesis. Methods:Eighty patients are randomly divided into group A(O2+Air) and group N(O2+N2O) each containing 40 Patients using computer generated randomization list. Patients monitored during surgical procedure regarding intraoperative hemodynamic changes , increase in PLMA cuff pressure , number of deflations required and laryngopharyngeal morbidity during intra and postoperatively upto 24 hrs.PLMA cuff pressure was monitored using cuff pressure monitor[VBM Aneroid meter].............

Abstract: Background: Hypertension is one of the common complications encountered in pregnancy and contributes significantly to maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Identification of hypertension and its effective management plays a significant role in the outcome of pregnancy, both for the mother and the baby. The finding of retinopathy may be an indication for a termination of pregnancy, since its continuance may lead to serious complications like loss of vision or the life of the mother as well as a stillbirth. The eyes serve as windows for studying the pattern of the cerebral circulation............

Title | : | Evaluating the Effect of Showing the Dental Injector to Children on Their Dental Behavior in Relation to the Vital Signs And Maternal Anxiety |
Country | : | Iraq |
Authors | : | Muna Saleem Khalaf |
Abstract: Fear and anxiety remain the primary emotion a child feels when entering the dental clinic. The main cause of this feeling is the dental injection. Many techniques for dental injection involved not showing the injector prior to the injection while others preferred showing the injector. It is believed that maternal anxiety affects the child's dental behavior. Many scales and signs can be used to determine the child's anxiety such as heart beat rate and respiratory rate. 31 children were involved in this study. The children were divided into two groups: group (a) children were shown the dental injector prior to local anesthesia administration, group (b) children were not shown the dental injector prior to local anesthesia administration..........

Title | : | A Randomized Controlled Trial of Tissue Adhesive Versus Sutures in the Closure of Port-Site Incisions in Laparoscopic Surgery |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Maniar N || Deshpande AA. |
Abstract: Cyanoacrylates have been recognized since before the 1960s as excellent tissue adhesives. They are easy to use, cost-effective, and cosmetically favorable. There are no studies from India reporting the use of tissue adhesives in laparoscopic surgery. We carried out a prospective, interventional, randomized trial of non-absorbable simple interrupted sutures versus 2-octyl cyanoacrylate in the closure of skin incisions in laparoscopic surgery with the primary objective of assessing the efficacy (approximation achieved) of both methods. The secondary objectives were to compare the operative time for closure, post-operative pain, infection and cost..........

Title | : | Synchronous Primary Carcinomas of Cervix and Ovary: A Case Report |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Qadir Fatima || Dr. Sonam Dubey || Dr. Suman Kapuriya |
Abstract: Synchronous tumors occur rarely in female genital tract, though it is one among potential sites for synchronous malignancies. In our case report a 36 year old female is diagnosed with two primary malignancies simultaneously; squamous cell carcinoma cervix and bilateral papillary cystadenocarcinoma ovary. Their distinct histological features and sparing of uterine corpus and fallopian tube helped in establishing the diagnosis as two separate primaries rather as metastatic spread of one primary malignancy. The objective is to strengthen the suggestion of thorough evaluation of whole female genital tract in case of suspected tumor, as secondary Mullerian system theory explains the possibility of synchronous cancer in female genital tract...........

Abstract: Symmetry is defined as correspondence in size , shape and relative position of parts on opposite sides of a dividing line or median plane. Handedness is one of the most obvious functional asymmetries. Approximately 90% of all subjects are right handed ,the remaining 10% of the population are left handed. Lefthandedness results from perinatal left hemisphere neurological damage, due to an oxygen deficiency induced by birth stress. Studies do show that there is a predictable relationship between laterality and sleep disturbance..........

Abstract: Background: To assess the refractive status of cataract patients with extreme myopia and to measure their accommodative capability after monofocal IOL implantation. Design: Prospective non-randomized study conducted at Tianjin Medical University Eye Centre. Participants: 18 patients with 34 extreme myopic eyes (≥-10 Diopter, ≥27mm axial length), and 14 patients with 27 non-myopic eyes that had uneventful phacoemulsification and monofocal IOL implantation. Methods: The accommodation amplitude of the two groups was compared pre- and post-operatively using subjective minus-lenses-to-blur method. In the extreme myopic group, the postoperative target refraction was selected to be myopic, and they were evaluated for predicted postoperative spherical power consistency..........

Authors | : | Ambuj Chandna || Abu Nedal || Tanvi Kalra || Rahul Kushwaha || Bhupinder Arora |
Abstract: The rehabilitation of a patient with facial defects is a challenging task. An alternative to surgical reconstruction is the creation of a silicone auricular prosthesis. The replacement of anatomical parts is an art and science. These prostheses provide a cost-effective and an Acceptablemeans of camouflage for patientswho are disinclined tosurgical reconstruction. The process of creating a silicone auricular prosthesis is discussed in this article.
