Abstract: Background: Acute ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) is a massive heart attack and profoundly life-threatening medical emergency. Acute STEMI is found to be associated with the impaired renal function and evolve inverse outcomes. Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Outcome of admitted patients of acute ST elevation myocardial infarction with impaired renal function in Bangladesh.
Methods: The study was done in the NICVD, Dhaka after approval of protocol for I year. For the current study, 100 patients of STEMI diagnosed by clinical, biochemical and ECG criteria were included in the study. After getting serum creatinine level from them, eGFR was calculated and patients having <60ml/min were selected for the further studies......

Abstract: Aims and Objectives: To study the surgical outcome of fracture shaft of tibia in children and adolescents using flexible nails in about 20 patients. Materials and Methods: This is a prospective study being conducted in department of orthopedics, Narayana Medical College And Hospital, Nellore from September 2017 to September 2019. The study consisted of 20 patients, age ranging from 4-16 years. Fractures are classified as per AO/OTA Classification. Tibial diaphyseal fractures, simple ( closed fractures ),Type I and II compound fractures are included in this study. They are treated by CRIF with Flexible nails(titanium) under image intensification and were reviewed with Antero-posterior and Lateral radiographs on their follow up visits at 1,2,3,6 months and a year. Final outcome was measured by Flynn's criteria and graded as Excellent, satisfactory and poor. Results: Mean age group was 9.5 years, mean duration of surgery was 57 minutes, with mean duration......

Abstract: Aim and objective: To discuss the different diagnosis of Eagle's syndrome and transoral surgical modalities for the treatment of the syndrome was the main aim and objective of the current study. Materials and Methods: the current study comprises of38 patients reporting to the oral surgery department with Eagle's syndrome due to elongated styloid process. Elongated styloid processes were resected via transoral approach under anesthesia. Results: The chief symptoms of all patients regressed after surgery. 3 D computed tomography scanning shows how the preoperative estimation of the styloid......

Abstract: Talaromyces (Penicillium) marneffei, a dimorphic fungus is endemic in south-eastern Asian countries. Most cases are reported in persons who have advanced AIDS. The diagnosis is established by microbiologic culture. A presumptive diagnosis can be made by cytologic or histologic examination of tissue collected. Bone marrow biopsy is often performed in the workup of patients with AIDS who have fever or hematologic abnormalities and provide prompt diagnosis of opportunistic infection. We report a case of a 35 year old woman who presented with fever and generalised weakness for 3 weeks associated with significant weight loss. On evaluation, patient was found to be HIV positive with CD4 count of 22/μL. ART was initiated. Blood counts showed pancytopenia. Bone marrow aspiration and trephine biopsy were performed to investigate the cause of pancytopenia.......

Abstract: In present days, the society is striving to have straight white perfect teeth with attractive smile resembling famous actors and actresses that is called "Hollywood smile". Nowadays, due to the increase in demand for a bright smile, many whitening techniques were developed. (1) Tooth whitening has become increasingly popular, even with adolescent patients. (2) Esthetic problems such as teeth crowding, rotations and spacing are related to more susceptibility to teeth staining and discoloration Many orthodontic patients may have bleaching done at home or may be interested in having their teeth bleached at the time of orthodontic treatment. (2)In spite of the vast amount of information presented in hundreds of articles during the last decade there is a remarkable lack of consent......

Abstract: This study was carried out to determine factors influencing contraceptive use among women of reproductive age. This was a community based descriptive survey which took place in Owerri North, Imo State, Nigeria among women of reproductive age. Simple random sampling was used to select thirty percent of semi-urban and rural autonomous communities. A structured self-administered questionnaire which examined the socioeconomic characteristics, cultural factors, proportion of women on any method of contraceptive and health facility factors was administered to three hundred and ninety seven respondents. Data obtained was analyzed using Statistical Package for the social Sciences (SPSS) version 21. Frequencies were generated and Chi-square was used to test significance. Level of significance was set at 0.05. A total of three hundred and ninety six (396) questionnaires were retrieved. Findings of this study revealed that most respondents 72 (58.0%) who uses contraceptive method regularly were between the age range of 33-41 years and 69 (53.1%) in the age range of 24-32 compared to...........

Abstract: Background Children with special needs are those having a chronic, physical, developmental, behavioral or emotional disability, or those at an increased risk of such conditions, and require health and related medical services of a type or amount beyond that required by children generally and which necessitates additional training by health care providers. They comprise about 1 in 10 out of a population of a billion people living with disability. Children with special needs have been estimated to be twice as likely as their peers without disability to have unmet and untreated oral health care needs due to various challenges in their quest for treatment. Such a substantial population necessitates the urgent formulation of systems, policies and mechanisms specially focused and directed towards improving the health status of these individuals, and more so their oral health status to be at par with their peers.....

Abstract: We carried out a descriptive study in the department of surgeryRajshahi Medical College Hospital, Rajshahi, Bangladesh during the period from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2018. Our aim was to evaluate the laparoscopic port site complication in Bangladesh. Laparoscopic techniques have revolutionized the field of surgery and offer several advantages over laparotomy including lower patient morbidity rates, reduced hospital length of stay and earlier return to normal activities. Although rare, several port site complications have been reported in the literature. Laparoscopic port site complications can be access-related or post-operative. Complications are related to port-site incision size, number of port sites, obesity, and umbilical ports. A total of 200 cases were selected for this study........

Abstract: Pterygium is a degenerative condition of the subconjunctival tissue which proliferates as vascularized granulation tissue to invade cornea, destroying superficial layers of stroma and Bowman's membrane, the whole being covered by conjunctival epithelium. The surgical excision is the main treatment method of pterygium. Various techniques have been tried in past from simple excision to use of adjunct therapies such as beta- radiation, thiotepa, 5-FU, and mitomycin C. Traditionally, during pterygium surgery the conjunctival autografts are secured in place with either absorbable or nonabsorbable sutures. Other techniques have been developed in order to reduce......

Abstract: The treatment of maxillofacial fractures usually requires the dental occlusion as a reference for an appropriate reduction. A variety of technique intermaxillary fixation is described in the literature, showing its indications and contraindications. The use of techniques with steel wire, Erich bar and locking screws, are currently the most reported and used. The risk of accidents, surgical time, cost and damage to teeth, are some of the points discussed when evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of each technique. So, we try to describe an option of simplified and efficient technique of inter-jaw lock using caliber of steel wire.
