Abstract: Background: Anaemia is one of the major problems of medical practice in our country. In times of epidemic of non-communicable diseases, prevalence of dietary and lifestyle diseases are also on the rise. Obesity and Iron deficiency anaemia have affected many people worldwide. The cases are seen to co-exist across all age groups and gender. Anemia impairs health and working capacity leading to mental, physical and economical loss. In this study we planned to assess the correlation.....

Abstract: Background: Saliva is a complex component comprised 99% of water, 1% of organic, inorganic substances and enzymes. It helps in the maintenance of homeostasis in the oral cavity. Saliva is the first fluid to get exposed to the harmful contents of tobacco products. Repeated exposure to these substances leads to functional changes of saliva such as decreased buffering capacity, decreased salivary flow rate and increased propensity for pathological changes in the oral cavity. These changes could be diagnosed earlier by measuring salivary flow rate and pH in nonsmoking and smoking patients.....

Abstract: Background: Hearing impairment among neonates is an invisible disability that compromises optimal development of a child. Reduced auditory stimulus adversely affects growth of auditory nervous system and also significantly affects their speech development. Early detection of neonatal hearing loss and prompt intervention can facilitate normal speech development. Hence this study focuses on the outcome of screening for hearing loss among neonates admitted in Intensive Care Units to determine prevalence of hearing loss among them and to ascertain the risk factors indicating higher probability of hearing loss. Materials and Methods: In this cross sectional study, 567 high risk neonates were subjected to a two staged hearing screening. All the participants were initially tested with Otoacoustic Emission (OAE) and those who failed the initial test were subjected to subsequent confirmatory test using Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA),.....

Abstract: Clinical and experimental observations suggest that a high level of thyroid hormone aggravates injury whereas low levels offer protection in stroke patients and in animal models. The mechanism of neuroprotection by altering cell survival or death pathways by hypothyroidism remains unclear. In this study, induction of transient focal ischemia has been done by occlusion of right middle cerebral artery for 2 hrs followed by 1 and 3 days of reperfusion in hypothyroid and euthyroid rats. Decrease in neurological deficit score, infarct volume, pro-apoptotic/inflammatory proteins and.......
