Title | : | Prevalence of ESBL Producing Klebsiella Species and Their in-Vitro Antimicrobial Susceptibility Pattern in A Tertiary Care Hospital |
Country | : | India. |
Authors | : | Akila.K || Nithyalakshmi.J || Mohanakrishnan.K || Sumathi.G |
Abstract: Infections caused by extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing Klebsiella spp. are associated with higher morbidity and mortality with limited treatment options. As there is no centralized national data in India, the prevalence of ESBL producing Klebsiella spp. is obtained from various scattered publications across the country. This varies widely from 10.10% to 87.00%. So it is important to do periodic surveillance at each institutional level to monitor the prevalence ESBL producers and take measures to contain their spread. This retrospective study was undertaken to identify the prevalence of ESBL producing Klebsiella spp. and their susceptibility pattern in a tertiary care hospital. Total of 209 Klebsiella spp. isolates were identified from various clinical specimens............

Title | : | Oral Hydration Therapy for the Management of Very Preterm Preeclampsia |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr Samartha Ram H. || Dr.I.Sai Samyukta || Dr Nagasree V. |
Abstract: Therapies to stabilize clinical manifestations and prolong pregnancies to attain fetal viability in preeclampsia do not exist1. Antiangiogenic factor, Soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase1 (sFlt-1) induces preeclampsia-like phenotype in experimental models2, and circulates at high levels inpreeclampsia. Extracorporeal removal of circulating sFlt-1 by Dextran-sulfate apheresis reduces proteinuria and stabilizes blood pressure without apparent adverse effects on fetus and mother1.Serum, Urine, and fractional excretion of sFlt-1 are much higher among severe preeclamptic women compared to mild pre-eclamptic controls3. Consuming plenty oral fluids and producing urine output more than 2500ml/24hrs, may significantly reduce clinical symptoms, and may help to continue pregnancies to viability, as enhanced sFlt1 renal excretion is possibled..............

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Geeta S. Ghag || Kamal S. Shukla || Dhirajkumar B.Shukla || Upendra D. Bhalerao |
Abstract: Introduction:The vermiform appendix is considered by most to be a vestigial organ, its importance in surgery is only due to its tendency for inflammation resulting in the syndrome called acute appendicitis. Acute appendicitis is the most common cause of an "acute abdomen" in young adults. Appendectomy is the most frequently performed emergency abdominal operation. Present study was undertaken to study the clinical pattern of presentation and to analyze the difference in the anatomical, biochemical, microbiological, histological determinants in patients of perforated and non-perforated acute appendicitis...........

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Sunil Nirmale || Dr. Abhay Kamra |
Abstract: Aim: To evaluate the pH variation in the surrounding medium after the use of two different vehicles of calcium hydroxide-saline(aq.),propylene glycol and calcium hydroxide points over a period of 7 days as an intra-canal medicament. Materials and Methods: 40 extracted human premolars were decoronated and the canals were instrumented. A standardized external defects were prepared in the coronal third of the mesial surface of each tooth in order to simulate external root resorption. The samples were randomly divided into the 4 experimental groups (n = 10) according to the paste used for filling the root canals- Group I: The root canals were left empty and served as a control, Group II: The root canals were filled with a paste of calcium hydroxide powder and saline, Group III:........

Title | : | Endogenous Sex Steroid Hormone Levels In Women With Breast Malignancy |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Anne Wilkinson || Dr. Suresh Chari || Dr. Radhika Mhatre |
Abstract: Hormones play a critical role in breast carcinogenesis. Serum endogeneous sex steroid hormone levels (estradiol, progesterone and testosterone) of 30 confirmed cases of women with breast cancer and 40 healthy controls were analysed using the Enzyme Linked Immunofluoresence Assay (ELFA) method. Serum levels of estradiol were raised in the premenopausal and postmenopausal phases with statistically significant association of p<0.05. Serum values of progesterone and testosterone were statistically insignificant with
p>0.05. Concentration of serum estradiol may predict the risk for breast malignancy and hence may help the clinicians to decide further management to decrease breast cancer risk.

Abstract: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease (i.e. accompanies the patient for life) caused by the lack or shortage of secretion or the lack of effectiveness of insulin hormone produced by specialized cells in the pancreas. The basic function of insulin is to enable the body to make use of sugar as a fuel necessary for different activities and metabolic processes, so in the case of lack of insulin the body does not benefit optimally from sugar leading to the accumulation of large quantities in the blood. The accumulation of sugar leads instantly to symptoms such as increased urination, thirst and the feeling of tiredness, while in the long term it leads to diabetes complications such as chronic arteriosclerosis, renal failure, blindness, heart disease and limb amputation............

Abstract: Root dilaceration is a dental anomaly characterized by an abnormal angulation of the dental root, which can cause problems during eruption and complications in the orthodontic and endodontic treatment or extraction. Dental anomalies have long been a concern to dental profession. Abnormalities in tooth size, shape, and structure result from disturbances during the morpho-differentiation stage of development, while ectopic eruption, rotation and impaction of teeth result from developmental disturbances in the eruption pattern of the permanent dentition . In addition, various maxillofacial pathologies can affect the jaw size, occlusion, diagnosis and treatment plan of orthodontic patients.............

Abstract: According to the 2005 histological classification of odontogenic neoplasms by the World Health Organization, ameloblastoma is a benign, locally invasive epithelial odontogenic tumor of putative enamel organ which usually affects the mandible. Unicysticameloblastoma (UA) refers to those cystic lesions that show clinical, radiographic, or gross features of a mandibular cyst, but on histologic examination show a typical ameloblastomatous epithelium lining part of the cyst cavity, with or without luminal and/or mural tumor growth. It accounts for 5-15% of all intraosseousameloblastomas. We report a case ofunicysticameloblastoma in a 15-year-old female, and review the literature.............
