Abstract: Carcinoid tumors are classified as neuroendocrine tumours. It is the most common tumour of the small bowel and its incidence is rising. Most carcinoid tumours grow slowly and mostly asymptomatic or may present with nonspecific abdominal pain or carcinoid syndrome. We came across one such case who presented with mass per abdomen since 1 year, on examination mass felt in the umbilical region. On admission patient was hemodynamically stable. Exploratory laparotomy segmental resection and anastomosis done. Postoperative period uneventful. Histopathology Section features are suggestive of Ileal "Carcinoid tumor''.............

Abstract: Peudoaneurysm of infrarenal abdominal aorta due to blunt trauma is uncommon identity. Here we are reporting a case of 35 years old man who had history of automobile accident at an age of 5 years and was asymptomatic for next 30 years. After that he developed symptoms of abdominal distension and dragging abdominal pain. Later CT angiography and USG abdomen showed peudoaneurysm of infrarenal abdominal aorta and right common iliac artery with retroperitoneal hematoma.............

Title | : | Skin Fold Thickness in Diabetes Mellitus: A Simple Anthropometric Measurement May Bare the Different Aspects of Adipose Tissue |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Chandra Selvi.E || Pavithra.N || Saikumar.P |
Abstract: Introduction: Skin fold thickness measurement provides an estimated size of the subcutaneous fat, which is the
layer of subcutaneous tissue and composed of adipocytes. Subcutaneous fat is the major determinant of insulin
sensitivity and has a strong association with insulin resistance. However, evidence to predict, duration of
diabetes on skin fold thickness still remains unclear.
Aim & Objectives: To assess the relation between progression of diabetes and skin fold thickness.........

Title | : | The Stabilization of Unstable IntertrochantericFractures –A RetrospectiveStudy |

Authors | : | Dr. J .Benjamin Vinodh || Dr.U.Thyagarajan || Dr.L.Senthil |
Abstract: Due to difficulty in obtaining and maintaining stable anatomical reduction, treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fractures has been challenging. Many fixation devices have been developed to overcome the intraoperative difficulties and postoperative complication of unstable intertrochanteric fractures of the femur. Till recent times most of the intertrochanteric fractures were treated by a sliding hip screw system, previously considered to be gold standard for such fractures,but had high failure rates[3]........

Abstract: Introduction: Patients suffering from heel pain feels like walking on a sharp object in the first few steps after gets up from sleep or a brief rest but disturb the routine and in its severe form force the patient to crawl this suffering given the consensus to categorize, analyze the factors responsible for these sufferings. The factors like traumatic, neurologic,arthritic,metabolic, and others were excluded only patients with Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (T2dm) and Obesity were included. The prevalence of heel pain in general population range from 3.6 to 7% Methods: This study was conducted in the Out Patient Department of Orthopedics'HEEL PAIN CLINIC' at Madha Medical College& Research Institute from august 2015 to august 2016 after obtaining ethical committee permission..........

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Ekta Singla || Sachin Walia || Harsimran Singh || Navreet Kaur |
Abstract: Purpose: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of subconjuctival bevacizumab on preventing the recurrence in primary pterygium excision Methods: This randomized, placebo controlled clinical trial was conducted on 40 eyes of 40 patients attending the ophthalmology OPD,Rajindra Hospital Patiala, randomized to Group 1 (bevacizumab) 20 patients and Group 2(balanced salt solution) 20 patients. Group 1 underwent pterygium excision and received a total of 0.5ml subconjuctival bevacizumab( 2.5mg/0.1ml on the day of surgery). Group 2 received balanced salt solution in the same manner. Recurrence defined as any fibrovascular tissue crossing the limbus, and the number of patients with >1.5mm fibrovascular overgrowth on the cornea were compared between the study groups........

Title | : | Validation of Effectiveness of Proteases in Dissolving Dental Pulp Tissue- An in- Vitro Study |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Varsha Pandit || Dr. Nitin Shah || Dr.Sanjay Pandit || Dr. Sanjyot Mulay |
Abstract: By spot gelatinase assay, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of proteases was determined through pilot study. Then different combinations of proteases solutions (MIC) were used to validate their pulp tissue dissolution capability by following methodology. Pulp tissue was removed from intact, freshly extracted vital premolars and third molars. And same was cut to get an approximately 7mg of tissue for each sample. Total hundred and eight samples of standardized weight (7mg) were taken. These samples were divided into seven groups depending upon different solutions used (Group I & II of three proteases/ Group II & IV of two proteases/ Group V, VI& VII of Collagenase I, NaOCl and Normal Saline respectively) with six subgroups based on different time period i.e. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 min.........

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Suneeta Singh MS, DNB || Praveen Kumar MS, DNB || Devendra Nema MD |
Abstract: Introduction: The incidence of intrauterine growth restriction is approximately 10%. The management depends upon diagnosis, follow up and timely delivery of the fetus. Material & Methods: Prospective cohort study was conducted at a zonal hospital from Oct 2014 to Aug 2016 on 60 women with clinical suspicion of FGR. After confirming FGR with ultrasound, these patients were
followed with umbilical artery velocimetry. The neonatal outcomes - gestational age at delivery, birth weight, APGAR score, NICU admissions were noted........

Authors | : | Dr. Pia Muriel Cardoso, DGO, MD,PhD,FICOG,FICS || Dr.GuruprasadPednecar, MD, DNB |
Abstract: The perception of support received by a medical intern from a mentor paves the path in the process of development and learning in the mentees professional life. An active approach is the need of the hour in the medical education system, wherein the support from the mentor is considered to help the mentee to excel in his or her professional life (Ramanan RA, Phillips RS, Davis RB, Silen W, Reede JY; Frei E, Stamm M, Buddeberg-Fischer B2010). The role of a faculty advisor is paramount in helping an intern choosehis or her future stream of specialty training (Paukert JL, Hsieh G.,JAMA 2001, Osborn EH 1993). Medical internship is demanding and it leads to conflict, fatigue and even resentment among medical students ultimately even leading to stress and burnout (Bellini LM, Baime M, Shea JA 2002). Abstract: In the contemporary practice of endodontics, the predictability of success is high because of the ever changing knowledge, advancements in instruments, methods of instrumentation and the care and the patience of endodontist during meticulous performance of intracanal procedures, strictly adhering to cardinal principles laid down by the stalwarts in the field of endodontics. Along with the salvation of those many millions of teeth, every year comes the inevitable percentage of non-healed and unsuccessful treatments. Patients increasingly expect to retain their natural dentition and are often reluctant to have teeth extracted. Endodontic retreatment or surgery may offer the patient a second chance to save a root-treated tooth that would otherwise be destined for extraction. Management of root end during endodontic surgery involves apical resection, retropreparation and retrofilling to seal the root canal. Numerous materials have been suggested and the newer ones like MTA, Biodentin, Castor Oil Polymer and calcium phosphate have shown promising results.
