Title | : | Plasma Fibrinogen Levels in Uncontrolled Diabetes Mellitus |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Ashna Purushothaman || Dr. Premaletha T K |
Abstract: Background: The increased morbidity and mortality in diabetes mellitus is due to its propensity to develop micro and macro angiopathy. The presence of high levels of plasma fibrinogen is predictive of vascular complications and cardiovascular death in patients with Diabetes Mellitus(DM). The increased prevalence of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) in diabetic patients makes it important to evaluate changes in plasma fibrinogen along with other cardiovascular risk factors. Methods: This was a hospital based cross sectional study done on 35 diabetic patients withGlycated Haemoglobin(HbA1C)>7%who attended the diabetic clinic under the Dept. of General Medicine, Govt..........

Abstract: Small bowel injuries are the third most common injuries in BAT, occur in less than 1% of the BAT patients. [1,2]. Isolated jejunal perforation (IJP) in blunt abdominal trauma (BAT) is uncommon and most often seen after motor vehicle accidents. There are higher chances of missing IJP in BAT, as majority of cases are due to solid organ injury, which are managed conservatively, and thus there is delay in diagnosis of IJP, leading to significant morbidity and mortality........

Abstract: Agenesis, the absence of permanent teeth, is a common occurrence among dental patients. The total incidence of tooth agenesis is about 4.2% among patients that are seeking orthodontic treatment and with the exception of third molars, the maxillary lateral incisors are the most common congenitally missing teeth with about a 2% incidence. The maxillary lateral incisor is the second most common congenitally absent tooth. There are several treatment options for replacing the missing maxillary lateral incisor, including canine substitution, tooth-supported restoration, or single-tooth implant. Dental implants are an appropriate treatment option for replacing missing maxillary lateral incisor teeth in adolescents when their dental and skeletal development is complete...........

Title | : | Calyceal Diverticulum: A Case Report |
Country | : | Bulgaria |
Authors | : | Stoyanka Dineva || Nikolay Halachev || Nencho Smilov |
Abstract: A calyceal diverticulum is usually identified during urological investigation for haematuria or recurrent urinary tract infection. Calyceal diverticula might be diagnosed as an incidental finding or can be symptomatic owing to recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI) or stone formation within the diverticulum, both of which are precipitated by urinary stasis within the diverticulum. Other common presenting features include ipsilateral flank pain and haematuria. The increasing use of cross-sectional imaging, in particular CT urography, has resulted in the increased detection of calyceal diverticula, although the majority of calyceal diverticula can be diagnosed by ultrasound. Intravenous urogram (IVU) and retrograde studies can be required to confirm diagnosis..........

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Nivetha C || Jagadamba A || Usha G Shenoy |
Abstract: Fatigue at work is a normal everyday experience & most common problem which affect different aspects of an individual quality of life. Granite factory workers are more prone to experience physical & mental fatigue due to noise, cutting, vibrations, irregular work timings & lack of sleep. Evidence showed that workers complained of pain & fatigue, which ultimately affects their safety & work performance. Visual Analogue scale (VAS) is frequently used to assess subjective fatigue. CFF (Critical fusion frequency) is an objective test commonly applied to study the effect of fatigue. The present study aims to study the effect of fatigue with CFF which is a non invasive simple physiological technique...........

Abstract: The main goal of endodontic treatment is effective cleaning of the root-canal system. But there is limitation of endodontic therapy such as lateral canals with various morphologies and dimensions, anatomical complexity and difficulty of irrigants to penetrate into the lateral canals and the apical ramifications. Hence, there is need for new materials, techniques and technologies that can improve the cleaning and decontamination of these anatomical areas. Laser technology was introduced to endodontics with the goal of improving the results obtained with traditional procedures.........

Title | : | Inherited Unconjugated Hyperbilirubinemia: Crigler Najjar Syndrome |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Riya George || Fehmida Najmuddin || Rajdeep Pal || Khushal Avasthi || Keya Lahiri |
Abstract: CriglerNajjar syndrome is an inherited disorder that manifests as persistent unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia. It occurs due to a defect in bilirubin conjugation due to complete or partial deficiency of uridine 5'-diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase enzyme. It comprises type 1 with complete deficiency and type 2 with partial deficiency of the enzyme. An early diagnosis in CriglerNajjar syndrome type2 enhances life expectancy. We present a 40-day old male child with CriglerNajjar syndrome type 2 with a heterozygous missense mutation in exon 1 of the UGT1A1 gene...........

Abstract: Background : Recent studies suggest that metformin (MF) is osteogenic. Aim: The assessment of the effect of a muco-adhesive, multiple layer film of MF in intra-pocket application in non-surgical management of moderate –severe chronic periodontitis. Materials and Methods: The study included 20 patients with moderate –severe chronic periodontitis. Scaling and root planing (SRP) were performed in all patients. Selected sites were randomly assigned to different treatment modalities. Group I: 10 sites managed by SRP and placebo, (control site) Group II: 10 sites managed by SRP plus metformin film (test site). Clinical parameters including site specific bleeding on probing (BOP), probing depth (PD) and clinical attachment level (CAL) were recorded at baseline, 3 and 6 months after treatment. Radiographic intrabony defect depth (IBD) and bone density (BD) were evaluated at baseline and 6 months post treatment.........

Authors | : | Abu-Hussein Muhamad || Mai Abdulgani || AzzaldeenAbdulgani || Nezar Watted |
Abstract: Congenitally missing teeth are frequently presented to the dentist. Interdisciplinary approach may be needed for the proper treatment plan. The available treatment modalities to replace congenitally missing teeth include prosthodontic fixed and removable prostheses, resin bonded retainers, orthodontic movement of maxillary canine to the lateral incisor site and single tooth implants. Implants are a viable option for replacement of congenitally missing lateral incisors and should be considered before the commencement
of definitive treatment plan. Early diagnosis, and proper planning can achieve excellent aesthetics..........

Title | : | Distraction Osteogenesis – Evolution & Technique- An Overview |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Siddharth Sharma || Dr. Abhishekrathi || Dr. Gaurav Mittal || Dr. Rakesh Ranjan |
Abstract: Distraction osteogenesis is a novel method for neo-tissue generation which involves development of both hard and soft tissue under applied force in certain direction. The major advantage of this procedure is diminishing reliability on grafting for reconstruction hence lack of donor site morbidity. Myriad of applications of distraction osteogenesis are present in maxillofacial surgery field which include mandibular distraction, midfacial distraction, alveolar ridge augmentation for functional, aesthetic and rehabilitative purpose
