Title | : | Prevalence of Refractive Error Changes in Nuclear and Cortical Cataract |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Baba D, Muthukrishnan V || Rathnakumar K, Kavikkovalavan V |
Abstract: Purpose: To evaluate the prevalence of refractive error changes induced by nuclear and cortical cataract. Background: Refractive error results from the failure of optical system of the non-accommodating eye to bring the parallel rays of light into focus on the fovea. Nuclear cataract is associated with index myopia and cortical cataract is associated with index hyperopia. Methodology: The sample population consists of 100 patients with cataract presenting in a tertiary care hospital in Puducherry.The patients were screened for defective vision using Snellen's chart. Keratometer was used for measuring corneal curvature and UltrasoundA scan for axial length.Slitlamp examination was done to classify cataract as nuclear and cortical..............

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr.P.Chalapathy || Dr. E.Jayasundaram |
Abstract: Subarachnoid block is the safe anaesthetic technique for lower abdominal, perineum and lower limb surgeries, but patients with spinal deformities represent technical difficulty for its establishment. In these situations general anaesthesia is the only option but it may be associated with complications in patients with difficult airway. This study is aimed to find out whether taylor's approach is beneficial to patients who have difficulty in spinal anaesthesia. 50 patients of ASA I and II of age between 30-70 years of either sex who have differentt spinal abnormalities and degenerative diseases of spine and have difficulty in establishing lumbar puncture with standard technique............

Title | : | A Novel Method of Using Mri in Diagnosing Masseteric Muscle Cavernous Haemangioma in A Case Series: A Original Research Article |

Authors | : | E.Elavarasi || T.V.Ulaganathan || V.Sadesh Kannan || R.Priyadarshini || S.P.Indra Kumar || E.Gayathri Priyadarshini |
Abstract: Intramuscular cavernous Haemangiomas represent less than 1% of all haemangiomas and consist of benign proliferations of blood vessels. Typical presentation is an enlarging painful soft-tissue mass without cutaneous changes. We diagnosed a series of 5 cases of cavernous haemangioma of the masseteric muscle presenting as an asymptomatic unilateral swelling. The rarity of a cavernous haemangioma in such a location with its presentation as a unilateral swelling without cutaneous changes made the cases unique and the MRI proves to be the novel method to arrive at a definitive diagnosis.

Abstract: Adenoid cystic carcinoma is an uncommon salivary gland malignancy that presents insidiously and is generally advanced when diagnosed. It is a slow growing malignant tumour, characterized by wide local infiltration, perineural spread, a propensity to local recurrence late distant metastases and delayed reporting& diagnosis. Little progress has been made in advancing "curative" treatment of adenoid cystic carcinoma of the head and neck. The disease is said to have a fatal outcome.............

Authors | : | Anup Banur || Antonio Lamartine Dacosta || Maria Pinto Joao Wiseman || Sudhir Chaudhri |
Abstract: Smoking is one of the most important etiological risk factor in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and leads to progressive deterioration in lung function. The aim of our study was to detect lung function changes in asymptomatic smokers which may detect pre clinical deterioration which may convince the subject to stop smoking. Asymptomatic subjects between 18 and 40 years of age, who have smoked tobacco for at least 6 months, were selected for the study. Similar asymptomatic subjects who have never smoked or used tobacco in any form were taken as controls. A complete clinical history and examination of the subjects was done. They were also subjected to 6 minute walk test, Spirometry. In few subjects, diffusion study, thoracic gas volume and residual volume were also done by plethysmography............

Abstract: Parathyroid carcinoma is involved in less than 1% of primary hyperparathyroidism. Parathyroid carcinoma patients usually present with striking hyperparathyroidism and hypercalcemia, with the resultant related symptoms being more severe than those associated with parathyroid adenomas. Parathyroid carcinomas also tend to be large and may be detectable by current imaging techniques. Its treatment is surgical, however when it is recognized in pre or intraoperative, carcinological surgery can be performe This study report the clinical and paraclinical cases of parathyroid cancers hospitalized in our department.

Title | : | Comparative Study between Conventional Hemorrhoidectomy versus Stapled Hemorrhoidopexy at Ja Group of Hospitals Gwalior |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr Sunil Agrawal || Dr Saumya Chopra |
Abstract: Hemorrhoids are fibrovascular cushions containing arteriovenous communications that are located in the subepithelial space of anal canal and are a normal part of human anatomy1. Hemorrhoids are a very common anorectal condition defined as the symptomatic enlargement and distal displacement of the normal anal cushions. They affect millions of people around the world, and represent a major medical and socioeconomic problem. Multiple factors have been claimed to be the etiologies of hemorrhoidal development, including constipation and prolonged straining. The abnormal dilatation and distortion of the vascular channel, together with destructive changes in the supporting connective tissue within the anal cushion, is a paramount finding of hemorrhoidal disease2An inflammatory reaction3 and vascular hyperplasia4,5 may be evident in hemorrhoids

Abstract: Adenoid cystic carcinoma also known as cylindroma is a rare tumor, accounting for only 1% of all malignant tumors of the oral and maxillofacial region. It accounts for 22% of all salivary gland malignancies and involves both major and minor salivary glands but the percentage for involvement of minor salivary gland is more than that of major salivary glands.1 It is a slow growing tumor and is often present for several years but the occurrence is relatively high with distant metastasis.2 Both men and women are equally affected from the tumor and occurs usually in 5th decade of life. In this article we present a case of adenoid cystic carcinoma which occurred in a 35-year-old patient with swelling of right maxillary region and pain.
