Abstract: Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is an autosomal dominant disease characterized by general dysplastic bone formation manifested in typical malformations in the skull, the pelvis and the thoracic region. It is caused by mutation in the gene on 6p21 encoding transcription factor Core Binding Factor Subunit Alpha 1 (CBFA1) or Runt related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), which is involved in the differentiation of osteoblasts and bone formation. This paper reports a case of cleidocranial dysplasia in a 28 year old female patient and review of literature with a brief emphasis on the role of CBFA1 gene in the pathogenesis of CCD. Radiographs of the skull, teeth and clavicles were the diagnostic evidences of our case.........

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Iffat Jamal || Dr. Kumari Bashundhara Lata || Dr Surya Kant Nirala |
Abstract: Primary angiosarcoma is a rare malignant tumour that arise from endothelial cells lining the vascular channels. It is an aggressive tumour with a high propensity for metastasis. Primary angiosarcomas account for <1% of all breast cancer cases . The other more frequent histological subtypes encountered are malignant fibrous histiocytoma, fibrosarcoma and liposarcoma.1 Most angiosarcomas are secondary to radiotherapy treatments for breast cancer or to an arm lymphoedema subsequent to a modified radical mastectomy.

Country | : | Bangladesh |
Authors | : | Dr. Manifa Afrin || Prof. Mohammad Monir Hossain || Dr. Mahfuza Shirin |
Abstract: Background: Optimal titration of inspired oxygen is important to prevent hyperoxia in mechanically ventilated patients in ICUs, but there is paucity of data about FiO2 practice among patients in NICUs. We evaluate the association of excessive FiO2 exposure with acute lung injury in mechanically ventilated young infants. Methods: By prospective study, we enrolled NICU patients who underwent invasive mechanical ventilation. Ventilator settings (FiO2) and corresponding SpO2 were collected for the first 48 hours. Excessive FiO2 was defined as FiO2 > 0.7. The association between excessive exposure and pulmonary outcomes was analyzed by change in oxygenation index (OI) and lung injury score by correlation.........

Abstract: Background: In nulliparous women dystocia is the most common obstetric problem and its etiology is largely unknown. The conventional view is that dystocia may be caused by abnormalities of either the passage, power or the passenger. In the past, the importance of passage and power has been highlighted, but the role of passenger (the fetus) in the etiology of dystocia has received less attention. Aims and Objectives : To study the association between labor pattern and birth weightandto evaluate the impact of birth weight on maternal and neonatal outcome..........

Abstract: Treatment with a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy is known to be associated with gastrointestinal stricture in both children and adults with malignancies. However, gastrointestinal stricture resulting from chemotherapy alone is a rare complication in paediatric malignancies. We experienced a rare case of jejunal stricture causing small bowel obstruction in a child with retinoblastoma during receiving chemotherapy.

Abstract: Non fuctionning pituitary adenomas (NFPA) are glandular tumors of the pituitary gland that do not manifest in any clinical aspect related to hypersecretion. They represent 28 to 33.2% of pituitary adenomas (PA). They are diagnosed at a later stage than functional adenomas, tumor size in these tumors is often more importantwhich is responsible for visual impairment and anterior pituitary deficiency We specify in this article the phenotypic and evolutionary characteristics of NFPA in women

Country | : | Algeria |
Authors | : | Ns Fedala || Aem Haddam || D Bellarbi |
Abstract: Secondary hyper parathyroidisme (SHP) is defined by a compensatory elevation of the parathormone (PTH) habitualy associated with normal or hypocalcemia. This situation is frequently in multiple pathologies. Chronic renal insufficiency and vitamine D insufficiency are the most common causes. When the diagnosis is established, additional tests are performed to rule out differential diagnoses and institute effective treatment. In fact, the absence of correction of secondary hyperparathyroidism can lead to serious complications.........

Abstract: Approximately 80% of the population secrete their blood group antigens in their saliva and other body fluids while others do not. These antigens in the digestive secretions have an association with the development of the diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. In this context, we did a case control study to test if there is any association between the blood antigen secretor status and the development of various gastrointestinal diseases..........

Authors | : | Soumeya Fedala || Ali el mahdi Haddam || Akila Zenati || Radhia Si youcef |
Abstract: Genetic research in familial forms of isolated GH deficiencies found a molecular abnormality in 50% of cases (n = 5/10). The search for a mutation in the GH1 gene was negative. Involvement of the GHRH-R gene is exclusive. Three mutations were identified : PL 144 Histamine (-C-431 T> A); ALA5 ASoFsx 22 and C465- 91-1105-119 del 5291 bp. No genotype / phenotype correlation has been found for these mutations

Country | : | Algeria |
Authors | : | Soumeya Fedala || Ali El Mahdi Haddam || Akila Zenati || Rhadia Si Youcef |
Abstract: The genetic study of 53 Algerian children with congenital multiple hypopituitarism found a mutation of transcription factors in 20.7% of cases (n = 11). Mutations in Prop1 are familial (90% of cases) and predominant (n = 10 /11). Among them, the R73C mutation is majority (07 out of 10) and appears to be specific to the Maghreb. No genotype / phenotype correlation was found. In one case a Pit1 mutation is identified: exon 1 PAL 32 Fsx18. This has not been previously reported. No molecular abnormalities were found in the case of ectopic posterior pituitary (n = 29).
Keywords: GH deficiency congenital - multiple congenital hypopituitarism - prop1 - Pit1 - post ectopic pituitary.
