Abstract: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive method of imaging dental microstructure which can potentially evaluate the health of periodontal tissue. This modality of imaging was pioneered at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (Livermore, CA, USA). It provides an 'optical biopsy' of tissue 2–3 mm in depth. Optical coherence tomography is based on optical scattering signatures within tissue structure which can create 3-D, high-resolution, cross-sectional images of biologic structures by scanning a lightly focused light beam across the tissue surface of interest by the use of broadband low-coherent near-infrared (NIR) light sources that provide.....

Abstract: Context: Axillary vein puncture is an alternative method for pacemaker leads implantation, intracardiac defibrillator, central line insertion However, the safety and effectiveness of axillary vein puncture become an issue for debate now. Aims: The aim of this study was to investigate the safety, feasibility, and efficacy of a modified axillary vein technique for pacemaker implantation, intracardiac defibrillator, central line insertion. Settings and Design: This axillary vein technique refers to a axillary vein puncture method using fluoroscopy for landmarking axillary vein. Subjects and Methods: This technique was applied t0 50 patients in whom cephalic vein cut down was failed.....

Abstract: Eagle syndrome is named after Watt W. Eagle an Otolaryngologist at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina who described the earliest cases in 19371 and published a series on elongated styloid process in 1957. It is also termed as a stylohyoid syndrome, styloid syndrome, or styloid–carotid artery syndrome2. With the stylohyoid ligament and the lesser horn of the hyoid bone, the styloid process forms the stylohyoid apparatus. Eagle syndrome is characterized by recurrent pain in the oropharynx with radiation towards ear due to an elongated or disfigured styloid process or calcified stylohyoid ligament3. Eagle defined the length of.....

Abstract: Aim: The aim of this study is to compare and correlate the stages of periodontal diseases and the patterns of finger tips. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 students aged 13-16 years with all permanent teeth erupted were examined for periodontal disease stages like bleeding on probing, presence of calculus based on Community Periodontal Index (CPI). The fingerprints of all fingers and two thumbs of both right and left hand of each student were recorded and studied using the magnifying glass. The data collected was analysed statistically. Results: An increased frequency of loops was seen in students with healthy gums whereas increased frequency of whorls was found in students.....

Abstract: Gingival hyperplasia modified by medications are commonly seen in dental practice. The increased use of drugs systemically induce several alterations in micro and macroscopic tissues and may create speech, mastication, periodontal, and aesthetic problems. Many systemic diseases have limited therapeutic options and such drugs have an adverse influence on different systems, and one of these is that they initiate the overgrowth of gingival tissue. In the presence of bacterial inflammation in the gingiva, many of these drugs enhance the production of collagen by fibroblast cells, and simultaneously retard the destruction of collagen and hence increase the bulk of gingival tissue. The.....

Abstract: Venousthromboembolism is a disease which is a combination of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Multiple treatment and prophylactic modalities are available, ranging from pharmacological to mechanical options. One of the pharmacological options available involved in the treatment and prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism are oral anti coagulants which is used in the treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolism and one of them is rivaroxaban. Rivaroxaban is an oral selective direct factor Xa inhibitor having high oral bioavailability andswift onset of action. It has a fixed dose regimen and has been revealed to be as effective as standard anticoagulant..........

Abstract: Traditionally dentists believe replacement of all missing /lost teeth is necessary to meet functional demands of the patient and to preserve integrity of the masticatory apparatus. Not replacing all the lost teeth is believed to affect TM joint and supporting tissues of teeth. Thus having 28 teeth is considered as norm, classically referred to as 28 teeth syndrome. All efforts were made to replace all the missing teeth. Restoring dentition to 28 teeth, not only increases the cost of the treatment for the patient but also places huge responsibility on the patient to maintain optimum hygiene as fixed and /or removable prosthesis require high level of patient compliance, leading..........

Abstract: Making an accurate impression is a critical step in implant supported restoration as these restorations cannot compensate even for minor discrepancy because of limited mobility of an implant. The aim of this study was to evaluate accuracy of implant impression made with two different type of elastomeric impression material using an open tray technique and thereby reducing chances of implant failure by exhibiting an accurate passive fit between implant and its superstructure. An edentulous model of maxillary arch was fabricated for the study on which 3 implant analogues were placed and reference bar was used to verify the accuracy of casts produced.....

Abstract: Carcinoma of the breast is one of the most common malignancy in women leading to cancer death FNAC of breast lesions has an established role in preoperative diagnosis and management of the patient. Expanded Masood cytologic index diagnoses and grades breast carcinoma into three grades which can be usefull so that neoadjuvant chemotherapy can be used judiciously, as neoadjuvant chemotherapy has gained more attention as primary medical treatment of breast carcinoma. The present study aims to evaluate the expanded Masood cytological grading system by comparing it with the Modified Bloom Richardson grading system on histopathology.

Abstract: Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). It is a critical disorder of the immune system which severely damages the body's normal defences to infections. Oral lesions in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection are common. Over 30 different types of oral conditions have been reported to occur in patients with HIV disease. It must be understood, however, that the oral lesions seen in HIV positive patients are a result of immunodeficiency caused by the Human Immuno-deficiency virus and not due to the direct effect of the virus on oral tissues. Even common dental diseases such as caries and periodontal disease have greater impact on patients with HIV infection. Therefore, it is essential that the physician and dentist, together, identify and reduce risk factors for oral diseases in the patients with HIV infection.

A total 44 Alzheimer disease (AD) patients diagnosed by NINCDS-ADRDA criteria were recruited fulfilling inclusion and exclusion criteria. The 25-Hydroxyvitamin D levels were determined using Chemi-luminescent immunoassay (CLIA) method. Abstract: Behçet´s disease is a chronic, autoimmune, multisystem of unknown etiology, characterized by oral ulcers, genital ulcers, and eye lesions. Ophthalmological manifestations of Behcet´s disease are numerous and are often indicative of the disease. Our job is to study these events in a group of patients in whom the ophthalmologic involvement was indicative of Behcet´s disease. a retrospective study in the ophthalmology department of The Mohammed V Military Medical Training Hospital in Rabat between January 2012 and december 2018. It involved 84 patients who initially consulted for eye symptoms and in that the diagnosis of Behçet´s disease was selected based on the criteria of ISG The initial ocular demonstrations were non-granulomatous anterior.....
