Abstract: Introduction: The non-molecular methods used for detection of MBL were the Double Disc Synergy Test (DDST), Combined Disc Synergy Test (CDST). The aim of the study was to evaluate the association of two non-molecular methods (CDST & DDST) for the detection of Metalo-beta-Lactamases (MBL). Methods: This Cross-Sectional study was carried out in the Department of Microbiology, Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, Chittagong. During the period of July 2015 to June 2016 after approval of the protocol by the ethical review committee of Chittagong Medical College. Samples were collected from patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in........

Abstract: Aims: To summarize our experience in the management of patients with morbidly adherent placenta. Introduction: MAP is a potentially life threatening hemorrhagic condition responsible for 7% - 10% maternal mortality. Materials and Methods: Retrospective study in which data of twelve patients with clinical diagnosis of morbidly adherent placenta was reviewed from Jan 2020 till march 2020. Results: Out of twelve cases with clinical diagnosis of MAP, placenta previa was present in 10/12 patients with MAP. All patients had......

Abstract: Serious injuries of the orbital contents are uncommon in closed maxillofacial trauma, as the anatomical configuration of the orbit offers important protective mechanisms against external trauma. Retrobulbar haemorrhage (RBH) potentially a threatening condition often associated with midface fracture and may cause vision loss if not treated early. This case is conducted on the incidence, treatment outcomes, and clinical features of RBH in patients after midface fracture. This paper deals with a case report of a 38 year old male patient of malunited midface fracture with blindness of right eye due to RBH and treated with fixation of fracture with orbital exenteration (OE) of right eye.

Abstract: Statement of problem: Successful treatment of badly broken teeth depends on good endodontic therapy and prosthetic reconstruction. Dowel cementation helps in retention of the prosthetic restoration and protect the remaining tooth structure, however the efficiency of dentin bonding is still questionable. Purpose: The purpose of this in-vitro study was to evaluate the bond strength of glass fiber dowels to root canal dentin using 3 different cementation techniques.......

Abstract: Background: Thyroid has fascinated the surgeon for centuries; from the second millennium BC, when it has been recorded in Chinese literature. Ancient Chinese employed ground sheep's thyroid for goitre and cretinism. Thyroid malignancy has been known to exist for over three centuries. In U.K its incidence is about 0.5 % of all cancers and is responsible for fewer than 0.5 % of all deaths due to cancer. Even now, there is no general agreement regarding the treatment of thyroid cancer. Long history together with evolving mode of treatments has made it extremely difficult to judge the effectiveness of any single or combined therapeutic approach where in widely different view points have been expressed with great amount of convictions on either side........

Abstract: Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of using prolotherapy in management of temporomandibular joint hypermobility. Patients and Methods: A prospective, randomized, double-blind clinical study using a placebo control was carried out. Thirty patients with painful subluxation or dislocation of the TMJ were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 equal-sized groups. Patients in the active group received 3 injections of dextrose (2 mL of 10% dextrose and 1 mL of 2% mepivacaine) for each TMJ, each 4 weeks apart, whereas patients in the placebo group received injections of placebo solution (2 mL of saline solution and 1 mL of 2% mepivacaine) on the same schedule.......

Abstract: Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) is a rare genetic autosomal dominant disorder, Its sign is the presence of bilateral vestibular schwannomas with multiple spine tumors. Ependymomas account for more than 75% of intramedullary spinal cord are usually low-grade and especially located in the lower cervical and upper thoracic spine, however, anaplastic ependymomas of spine appear to be very rarely. We report a case of a young female patient with spinal multiple tumors associated with bilateral vestibular schwannomas attribute features of NF2, underwent surgical treatment, whose histologic exam showed anaplastic ependymoma. Our objectif through this case is to demonstrate clinic and radiologic findings, and discuss about histologically features.

Abstract: Objective: Our objective was to assess the developmental stages of maxillary canine and mandibular second molar in different age groups and to find the correlation with skeletal maturity using maxillary canine and mandibular second molar calcification stages
Material and methods: In this cross sectional study samples were derived from OPG and Hand-wrist radiographs of 120 patients whose age ranged from 8-16 yrs (60 males and 60 females). Demirjian method was used to estimate the dental age through assessment of different calcification stages of maxillary canine and Mandibular second molar. Skeletal stage was determined using Julian singer method by using hand-wrist radiographs........

Abstract: Background: The incidence of prostate cancer (PCa) is higher in Australia, North America, and European countries and low in Asia. PCa remains underdiagnosed in the developing world where it often presents late. Traditionally, abnormal digital rectal examination warrants serum PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) levels where a cut-off of 4.0 ng/mL has been used to recommend prostate biopsy that forms the cornerstone in diagnosing and treating this disease. Over the last two decades, TRUS has become the gold standard in performing prostate biopsies although the trend is changing towards transperineal biopsy in recent times. The reported cancer detection rate of Trans-Rectal Ultrasonography (TRUS) guided biopsies ranges between 30- 40 percent in western countries and about 20 percent in Asian countries........
