Title | : | Comparison of deltoid-splitting approach versus deltopectoral approach for the management of proximal humeral fractures with Philos plate |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | R ragavanandam || prof arivazhagan |
Abstract: Fractures of the proximal humerus represent approximately 4% of all fractures and 26% of humerus fractures. Three and four-part fractures (13-16% of proximal humerus fractures) have been a challenge to achieve stable fixation. Difficulties have been multifactorial, including osteoporotic bone, angular instability, implant impingement, loss of reduction and backing out of screws. A total of 22 patients with proximal humeral fractures were divided in two groups, in Group A, patient's classical deltopectoral approach utilized, while in Group B deltoid-splitting approach was used...........

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. EsengKhyoGohain || Dr. KumudPathak || Dr. BijuChoudhury |
Abstract: Background:Protein Energy Malnutrition (PEM) is associated with lot of changes in the body. In hematological system some degrees of anemia, changes in reticulocyte response, erythroid activity have been described in literatures. But the observations regarding hematological changes in children with PEM have been inconsistent. Existing literatures describe mostly about anemia but changes of other cell line like leukocytes and platelets have not been described well. Moreover regarding anemia, most of the literatures have described changes mostly in severe form of malnutrition which only forms the tip of the iceberg. So there is scope for study of hematological changes in the non-severe form of PEM also...........

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. B. Adilakshmi, M.D, D.M || Dr. Ram Pakira, M.D; (D.M) |
Abstract: The prognosis of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is directly related to left ventricular (LV) function and size 1.2 Traditionally, the principal investigated target of clinicians is LV function, with little interest in the right ventricle.However, right ventricular (RV) dysfunction after AMI is also associated with increased risk of morbidity and mortality. 3-5 RV dysfunction has been associated with increased morbidity and mortality in patients with congenital heart disease, valvular disease, coronary artery disease, pulmonary hypertension, and heart failure. 6-8 Right Ventricle (RV) dysfunction may be primarily attributed to abnormality of RV myocardium or secondary to left ventricle (LV) dysfunction, as a consequence of "Ventricular Interdependence" between the two ventricles

Title | : | Renovascular Arterial Hypertension Due to Triple Renal Arteries Stenoses: One Session Successful Stenting |
Country | : | Romania |
Authors | : | Ileana Antohe || Rotar M. || Raluca Minea |
Abstract: The paper presents a case of a 65 year old white male with atherosclerosis, severe left triple renal arteries stenoses and secondary renovascular hypertension (RVH). The patient was treated in a single session by percutaneous balloon angioplasty and stenting of the three left renal arteries with important atherosclerotic lesions. The uneventful evolution permitted patient's discharge next day after the intervention, with antihypertensive and antiplatelet therapy. The authors discuss successively the morphogenetic phenomena involved in multiple renal arteries apparition, the historical contribution of a Renascence anatomist to the description of renal blood supply variants and recent trends in atherosclerotic RVH (interventional versus medical approach).

Abstract: Background: Sputum induction is a method used over the years to investigate airway inflammation in patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), to establish correct disease phenotype. Sputum production and expectoration are induced by inhaling hypertonic saline, which can also provoke adverse effects such as bronchoconstriction, lung hyperinflation, and dyspnea. The aim of this retrospective study was to assess the tolerability and safety of sputum induction in patients with more severe COPD stages. Methods: A total of 76 sputum inductions were performed in 20 patients with moderate or severe COPD (median FEV1 1.6 L 95%CI 1.47-1.71, or 51% 95% CI 47-54% of predicted) over a period of 32 days...............

Authors | : | Zaid Hadi Kadhim || Jabir Hasan Obaid || Qais Qassim Malik |
Abstract: Based on physical examination alone, it is often difficult to decide whether a scrotal swelling arises from testicle itself or from extra testicular elements in scrotum. The aims of the study were, to establish the causes of scrotal swelling in the population and to evaluate the relationship between clinical, demographical and sonographic findings. One hundred patients with age ranging between (1-77 years) presented with scrotal swellings were examined by high resolution real-time ultrasound using 5-12MHz linear probe during the period from October 2011 to April 2012 in Al-Diwaniya teaching hospital at Al-Diwaniya city-Iraq.Seven patients were referred as scrotal swelling clinically, while ultrasound examination was unremarkable..............

Abstract: Medically refractory Parkinson's or dystonia conditions are often treated with deep brain stimulation (DBS) that are managed with the help of very restricted MRI due to safety concerns. The resulting MR images are often suboptimal but are still considered valuableto assess post-surgical complications as well as electrode placement accuracy. Absorbed radiofrequency power near the DBS electrodes during an MRI could produce tissue burns and,therefore, are subjected to strong conditional guidance from FDA and DBS manufacturers. We developed a comprehensive brain MRI protocol (including T1 MPRAGE, FSET2, DTI and FSE IR with modified refocusing flip angles and stretched RF pulses) for 10 Parkinson's and 5 dystonia patients with implanted electrodes............

Title | : | Multidisciplinary Aesthetic Dental Treatment; Peg lateral with Congenitally Maxillary lateral Incisors |
Country | : | Israel |
Authors | : | Hanali Abu Shilbayih || Nezar Watted || Muhamad Abu-Hussein |
Abstract: Maxillary lateral incisors vary in form more than any other tooth in the mouth except the third molars. If the variation is too great, it is considered a developmental anomaly. Developmental alterations which are most commonly associated with maxillary lateral incisors either unilaterally or bilaterally are microdontia, hypodontia, dens invaginatus and dens evaginatus (talon cusp). Microdontia is a condition where the teeth are smaller than the normal size, which may involve all the teeth or be limited to a single tooth or a group of teeth. However, involvement of single tooth is a rather common condition, especially involving maxillary lateral incisor. Microdontia of maxillary lateral incisor is called as "peg lateral", that exhibit converging mesial and distal surfaces of crown forming a cone like shape...............

Authors | : | Brahmanpally Balkishan || D. Jerusha |
Abstract: Introduction: Cervical lymphadenopathy is one the most common presenting complaint in the surgical OPD. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) has emerged as an important tool in the initial diagnosis and management of patients with lymphadenopathy due to early availability of results, simplicity of the test and minimal trauma to the patient. It is a safe, quick, reliable and cost-effective test for routine diagnosis of lymphadenopathy...............

Abstract: Hypoxia is known to play key roles in the development and progression of tumours. We previously demonstrated that breast cancer type 1 susceptibility protein (BRCA1) and S100 calcium-binding protein A4 (S100A4), critical molecules for tumour initiation and metastasis, were differential expressed in ovarian cancer. Therefore, we examined the mechanisms of the BRCA1 and S100A4 expression in ovarian carcinoma cells, with particular attention paid to the effects of hypoxia. The expression levels of BRCA1 and S100A4 were found to correlate with the invasiveness of ovarian carcinoma cells in vitro and in vivo, and the expression of BRCA1 and S100A4 gene was associated with epigenetic changes in the regulatory regions of BRCA1 and S100A4 cording genes in ovarian carcinoma cell and tissues................

Abstract: Lip prints are wrinkles and grooves present in the transition zone of human lip. The study of lip print is referred to as cheiloscopy and it is unique to every individual. They do not change during their entire life. The purpose of this study is to find out most common lip print pattern and to assess their efficacy in sex determination. In this study, each individual had unique lip print pattern. Type I (vertical) was the predominant pattern in both males and females. There is statistically significant difference between gender and type of upper lip print pattern, but there is no correlation regarding lower lip pattern contradictory to many earlier studies. Hence, lip prints can be used as tool for identification of an individual and gender identification...............
