Abstract: Diabetes mellitus is associated with long term damage, dysfunction and failure of various organs and its complications are mostly due macro vascular and micro vascular damage. Like other target organs lung is also affected in diabetes. The presence of an extensive micro vascular circulation and abundant connective tissue in the lungs, raises the possibility that lung tissue may be affected by microangiopathy process and non-enzymatic glycosylation of tissue proteins, included by chronic hyperglycemia, there by rendering the lung a ―target organ‖ in diabetic patients...............

Title | : | Effect of duration of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus on Lung Function Tests --- Original research article |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Garima Charak || Dr.Anupama Kaur || Dr.Surinder Kaur || Dr.Sonia Kocchar |
Abstract: India is called Diabetic capital of the world as there are going to be 80% of all diabetes from the entire world population, concentrated here. The complications which are caused by diabetes mellitus have become a challenging health problem. Like other target organs lung is also affected in diabetes.the present study was conducted to see the effect of duration of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus on Lung function tests. Method: Study Group consisted of 50 subjects with type 2 Diabetes mellitus and is further divided into 2 subgroups:Sub-Group A:-Patients with duration of diabetes for 5 to 10 years. Sub-Group B:-Patients with duration of diabetes for more than 10 years. Pulmonary function tests were performed using computerized spirometer, Spiro – Excel..........

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Sreelatha B || Christopher A || Ganga N |
Abstract: Objective: To assess the risk factors for acquired labial agglutination in infancy. Methods: Newborn female babies with normal labia minora enrolled between Feb 2014 and Jan 2015 were followed till 18 months of age. Pre designed questionnaire was used at each visit to register details on breastfeeding, diaper use, frequency of diaper change, perineum cleaning methods including use of tissue wipes, use of talcum powder, creams in the vulva, positioning of older infants during micturition, wetness of the vulva between voiding, frequency and consistency of stools and medications used. Vulval examination at each visit was recorded. Presence of labial agglutination at any time and a normal labia minora at 18 months of age were regarded as endpoint.............

Abstract: Identification is recognition of an individual by means of various physical features and biological parameters, which are unique to each individual. There are various established parameters for identification of an individual. These are external features (such as birth marks, scar, tattoo marks , occupational marks, malformations), personal features (such as clothes, speech, habits, intelligence, handwriting), assessment of
age and sex, determination of race and stature, anthropometric measurements, finger prints, foot prints, lip
prints, DNA finger printing and DNA profile, etc. Question of identification arises in every medico legal case be it civil or criminal. The determination of sex is a major criterion for the identification of an individual. It segregates lot of cases for easy and quick identification in a given sample. Age estimation is an integral part of the biological profile in achieving an identification of unknown deceased individual...........

ocular surface inflammation in severe dry eye. A total of 30 eyes of 15 patients were included in this study, who used tacrolimus 0.03% eye ointment BD (twice a day) for three months. Evaluation of patient was done by
subjective and objective scores, before the study, at follow up visit and end of the study. Results: Clinically and statistically significant improvement was seen both objectively and subjectively in
patients of severe dry eye treated with topical Tacrolimus............

Title | : | Comparison of Optragate and Conventional Bite Block as Mouth Opening Aids in Children |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Apoorva Jawa || Ila Srinivasan |
Abstract: Mouth gags are surgical devices placed between the upper and the lower jaw to prevent the mouth from closing during dental procedures. Over the years many innovative techniques for isolating the operative field have been invented and described.Aimof this study was to assess the effectiveness and acceptability of a recent device OptraGate and conventional Bite Block as an aid to assist mouth opening during dental restorative procedures.A total of 30 children were included in the study. OptraGate and Bite Block were used for restorative procedures in all patients using cross over design. An inter operator comparison of patient response to relative comfort of the two devices, was used to rule out operator bias..........

Abstract: Introduction: The most common anatomical variations of nasal air sinuses are concha bullosa and deviated nasal septum according to many authors, but their relationship with Chronic Rhino sinusitis (CRS) is under debate. Their role in pathogenicity and chronicity of CRS warrants further detailed study. Aims: To find out any possible association among Chronic rhino sinusitis, Concha bullosa and Deviated Nasal Septum (DNS) in Central India...........

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Prof. Dr.Nirmala MS DGO || Asst. Prof Dr.R.Swaminathan MS || Asst Prof Dr N.Jeeva || MS Dr.G.Sivakumar MS |
Abstract: Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs), are a group of rare, spindle-cell derived fibrous neoplasms most commonly found in the thoracic (pleural) cavity (80%). However, it has been described that SFTs can affect a wide range of anatomic sites outside the pleura, including retroperitoneum, meningeal, nasal cavity and others (20%). Solitary fibrous tumors are usually described in patients between 40 and 70 years of age, and are primarily benign. We present the case of a 46-year-old male presented with a vague abdominal mass, its radiological features, its surgical resection and histopathological findings and immunohistochemistry study...........
