Abstract: Aims: To asess the association between glycemic control and Diabetic Retinopathy [DR] in patients attending a diabetic clinic. Methods: In this study 750 diabetic patients who reported for executive check up in a preventive clinic were evaluated for DR. Retinopathy was graded as Non proliferative DR [NPDR] and Proliferative DR [PDR ].Risk factors for DR like glycemic control, duration of diabetes and treatment details were evaluated. Investigations included complete blood count, blood sugar, serum lipids, ECG, Renal function tests and complete clinical examination.We have given more importance to the relation of DR and glycemic control in this article.............

Title | : | High Sex Ratio in Tribal Society of Arunachal Pradesh in India: An Empirical Study |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Ms. Anusree Krishna Mandal |
Abstract: In India, we compute the sex ratio in terms of number of females per thousand males. Among the various components of population composition, sex composition holds a prime place in the context of demographic composition of any region. The separate data for male and female are vital for various types of planning and also for the analysis of other demographic characteristics such as mortality, migration, marital status, and economic relationships within a community. The balance between the two sexes affects the social and economic relationship within a community............

Abstract: Salivary gland tumors are a relatively rare and morphologically diverse group of lesions. Pleomorphic adenoma is a benign tumor of the salivary gland that consists of a combination of epithelial and mesenchymal elements. The tumor most commonly arises from the parotid (60-70%) or submandibular glands. It develops less frequently in a minor salivary gland, presenting as an intraoral mass. We are reporting a rare case of benign pleomorphic adenoma of soft palate with a brief discussion and review of literature.

Title | : | Adrenal Metastasis from an Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma - A Case Report and Review of Literature |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Prof. Subbiah Shanmugam || Dr Sujay Susikar || Dr. H Prasanna Srinivasa Rao |
Abstract: Adrenal metastasis from esophageal carcinoma is quite uncommon. The identification of adrenal metastasis and their differentiation from incidentally detected benign adrenal tumors is challenging especially when functional imaging facilities are unavailable. Here we present a case report of a 43 year old male presenting with adrenal metastasis from an esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. The use of minimally invasive surgery to confirm the metastatic nature of disease in a resource limited setup has been described.

Title | : | Quantitative Analysis of Salivary Constituents and Their Relation with Dental Caries in Adult Population |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Kavitha R || Prabath Singh |
Abstract: Background: Saliva is a complex mixture of fluids which regulates oral health. Studies have stated that calcium and phosphorous content of saliva is low in caries active persons. But most investigators have been unable to confirm this finding .This is attributed to the interplay of other factors including proteins and enzymes. Thus levels and state of calcium and phosphorous in saliva may be an indicator of susceptibility to dental caries.Thus the current study aims to determine the levels of salivary constituents like calcium, phosphorous, proteins and alkaline phosphatase in caries group and caries free group and assess their relationship with prevalence of dental caries............

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr Yousuf Perwez || Dr Vaibhav Choudhrie || Dr Sridhar Pradhan |
Abstract: Pilonidal cyst, sinus or abscess commonly occurs in the natal cleft often containing hair and skin debris. Proposed cause of pilonidal cysts is ingrown hair, excessive sitting is thought to predispose the condition. Attempted repairs involve high chance of wound failures and recurrence. This disease causes lots of morbidity because of prolonged wound healing time and its related failure. Ten cases were operated in a single surgical unit using an innovative approach. Limberg flap reconstruction technique was found superior to other traditional techniques

Abstract: A 64 year old woman presented with symptoms of renal lesion. She had nephrectomy done after series of laboratory and radiologic investigations. Histology later showed features consistent with xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XPN). No evidence of malignancy was seen. She was managed post operatively with no adjuvant chemotherapy but only antibiotics and has been clinically stable. XPN is commoner in females and often presents with diagnostic dilemma. High index of suspicion with histopathologic analysis of all biopsy is of importance for proper management of such patient.............

Authors | : | Dr. C A Ashoka |
Abstract: Odontogenic Cysts and Tumors are commonly encountered in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical practice.These cysts usually originate from cells/tissues associated with development of Tooth bearing apparatus. The management of these cysts and tumors presents as a significant challenge and is very critical as well, as majority of these lesions are asymptomatic and usually discovered in routine examination or once they are pronounced extra orally.

Abstract: The permanent teeth with open apex and large periapical lesion are diffcult to treat as a traditional root canal procedure, therefore calcium hydroxide place an important role in reducing the periapical infl ammation. Management of open apex can be done using mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) which can be placed in apical 3-4 mm. The aim of This case report describes the use of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) for management of a periapically compromised immature tooth

Title | : | Clinical Replacement Therapy and the Immediate Post-extraction Dental Implant |
Country | : | Israel |
Authors | : | Azzaldeen Abdulgani || Nezar Watted || Muhamad Abu-Hussein |
Abstract: Immediate dental implants have greatly reduced the treatment time and the number of surgical intervene tions. Recently it has been noted that this treatment modality can be used in aesthetically demanding cases especially the anterior maxilla. The aim of this article is to describe a clinical case in which a fractured maxillary canine was replaced by an osseointegrated implant using a simplified technique in a patient who was a smoker and presented poor oral hygiene. The technique adopted permits a reduction of the number of implant components and consequently a lower cost of treatment, while at the same time maintaining acceptable aesthetic and functional outcomes.
