Abstract: One of the most significant events in the life of the aging man is retirement. Even though retirement brings about some expected disruptions in the life of a person, it is obvious that some are more affected than others are (Atchley, 1976). Retirement is clearly listed as one of the stressful life events where a person feels discriminated from society and has to undergo numerous readjustments. It is then but natural to experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, frustration, diminished sense of worth, shattered self-esteem and morale. Studies done by Dhillon and Milbander (1992) showed that retired men were more tense, anxious and psychologically demoralized than working men.

Abstract: Metabolic syndrome refers to a cluster of risk factors that are associated with increased risk of development of heart disease and diabetes. Metabolic syndrome is also known as Insulin Resistance Syndrome1 or Raven Syndrome or Syndrome X. Many of the characteristics of metabolic syndrome are risk factors associated with either Type II diabetes or heart disease or both. According to National Cholesterol Education Programme (NCEP, ATP-III) guidelines, metabolic syndrome should be diagnosed when three or more of these risk factors2 are present.

Abstract: Arteriovenous(AV) accesses are the lifeline for Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients and providing a durable access is a challenge for every vascular surgeon. The maturation of autogenous AV accesses at 4-6 weeks is the biggest hurdle more than the creation of AV access. There are many traditional preoperative predictors for Arteriovenous fistula( AVF) maturation including old age female sex, obesity, smoking, presents of atherosclerotic risk factors like Coronary Artery Disease(CAD), Cerebrovascular Disease(CVD), Peripheral Vascular Disease(PAD), Diabetes Mellitus..........

Abstract: Introduction: Mobile phones have become one of the most indispensable accessories of professional and social life, worldwide being easily accessible, economical and user-friendly Reports from Western nations have suggested that mobile phones are more often dirtier than toilet seats, (as toilet seats are often disinfected). toilet seats usually contained three different types of bacteria but mobile phones on an average housed some 10- 12 different types of fungi and bacteria., In U.S. hospitals hospital acquired infections cause 1.7 million infections per year and are associated with approximately 100,000 deaths. It is estimated that one third of these infections could be prevented by adhering to standard infection control guidelines.............

Abstract: Ossifying fibromas is a rare, benign fibro-osseous neoplasm of the jaw characterized by substitution of normal bone by fibrous tissues and newly formed calcified products such as bone, cementum or both and is thought to originate from the periodontal ligament. It is a well-demarcated lesion that can be differentiated from fibrous dysplasia. The overlapping clinical and histopathological features of these subtypes have led to diagnostic dilemma and confusion. Hereby, we report a rare case of ossifying fibroma arising in the maxilla of a 55-year-old female patient together with histologic and imaging findings.

Abstract: Plasma cell myeloma is a monoclonal neoplastic proliferation of plasma cells of bone-marrow derivation, usually multicentric, that eventually infiltrates various organs but rarely produces plasma cell leukaemia1. It is characterized by osteolytic lesions, bone pain, hypercalcemia, a monoclonal gammopathy, and disorders due to depositon of abnormal immunoglobulin chains (amyloid) in various tissues, including kidney1. Plasmacytoma can present clinically as multiple myeloma (MM), solitary bone neoplasm (SBP) and extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP).

Abstract: Objective: Reports on incidence and trends of various cancers in India come from data compiled by National Cancer Registry Program (NCRP) through 29 population based (PBCR) and 29 hospital based cancer registry (HBCR). Despite this, several states in India including Jharkhand does not have either HBCR or PBCR and information regarding incidence and trends of various cancers including cervical cancers is lacking. In the absence of an established cancer registry, data from our institute which is the largest tertiary cancer center of Jharkhand may be important to understand the demographics of cancer in this part of country. Methods: We did this retrospective study to examine the incidence and trends of carcinoma of uterine cervix at our institute Among 520 patients of cancer identified from 2014 till date, carcinoma of uterine cervix comprised of 30.57% of all cancer cases...........

Abstract: Magnificent and complex, eyes are the most important organ of the human body. An ocular defect has both psychological and physiological effect on the patient. A removable custom made or stock ocular acrylic prostheses is a better option than implant retained ocular acrylic prostheses due to economic factors and it also helps uplift the patient psychologically and improve the confidence. This article presents a case treated with a stock ocular acrylic prostheses which has good adaptation and esthetics. The stock ocular prostheses showed movement in coordination with contra lateral side eye.

Abstract: Immunohistochemical detection of basal cells is widely used to help in the diagnosis or exclusion of prostatic carcinoma in a diagnostically challenging cases. The objective of this study was at evaluating the role and comparing the sensitivity and specificity of HMWCK and p63 in prostatic lesions. This was a retrospective study carried out in our institution on 150 lesions. It was found that p63 is more sensitive than HMWCK in identifying the basal cells in diagnostically challenging cases.

Abstract: Dr. Archie Brain developed a new way of linking artificial and anatomical airway, between 1981 and 1987.This new concept called Laryngeal Mask Airway combined the advantages of a no n invasive facemask and the more invasive tracheal tube. Originally LMA was recommended as a better alternative to the face mask. But ever since its development the LMA has challenged the assumption that tracheal intubation is the only acceptable way to ma intain a clear airway and provide positive pressure ventilation. Though LMA provided all the above advantages, the risk of gastric distension, pulmonary aspiration of gastric contents and fear of inadequate ventilation acted as a deterrent to the widespread use of LMA

Abstract: NUG is characterized by necrosis and sloughing of gingival tissues and presents with pain, spontaneous bleeding, necrosis of the interdental papillae and halitosis. Various predisposing factors responsible for NUG are psychological stress, immune deficiency, hormonal imbalance, malnutrition, poor oral hygiene, smoking etc. The disease if not treated on further progression can lead to necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis and noma. This rare case report is first of its kind, describes the diagnosis and management of a pregnant patient in her third trimester(eighth month) who presented with the complaint of severe pain in gums with the characteristic signs and symptoms suggestive of NUG............

Abstract: Carcinoma larynx has a propensity for metastasis in neck nodes. Distant metastasis in larynx cancer are rare and the usual sites are lung, liver and bones. We report a case of carcinoma larynx post local treatment presenting with distant metastasis in abdominal wall. This diagnosis was made on clinical suspicion and confirmed by cytology and abdominal imaging.

Abstract: In recent times, intraoperative awareness during anesthesia has gained lot of discussion due to rise in medico legal problems and a cause of embarrassment for anaesthesiologists. Various monitoring are in use for assessing anesthesia depth and with the passage of time significant advancement has been made. Now a days, electroencephalogram (EEG) based monitoring has been under use and lot of discussion has been underway for them (e.g BISpectral index and EEG response to auditory, visual, somatosensory response). But both have inherent disadvantages of having wide inter individual variations, lack of linearity in dose response and different behaviors for different anaesthetic agents.

Abstract: Laminate veneer restorations have a unique position in today's dental practice, they are used to optimize tooth form and position, close diastema, replace discoloured or unaesthetic composite resin restorations. These are conservative restorations a factor which is essentially important. This case report presented describes a minimal invasive treatment of four maxillary anteriors with gurels technique. A step-by-step protocol is proposed for diagnostic evaluation,mock-up fabrication and trial, teeth preparation and impression, and adhesive cementation.

Abstract: Idiopathic Hypereosinophilic Syndrome is defined as1) sustained eosinophilia more than 1500/mm3.2)absence of other causes of eosinophilia.3) multiorgan involvement. Very few case reports have been reported in the past of rheumatoid arthritis and Idiopathic Hypereosinophilic Syndrome. Here we report a rare case of 59 year old patient, known case of rheumatoid arthritis since the last ten years on DMARDS(Disease Modifying Anti Rheumatoid Drugs) who developed marked eosinophilia and multi-organ involvement in the form of stroke...........

Abstract: The use of biologic therapy has revolutionarized treatment of many chronic diseases including several rheumatological disorders. However , biological agents are expensive and unaffordable. The follow-on generic products, also called as biosimilars are about to flood the pharmaceutical market. Biosimilars are not identical to the biological product but are attempted copies of existing biological product. They are different from the generic product in terms of efficacy, safety and immunogenicity. Hence complete awareness about their safety profile and efficacy is essential before prescribing to the patient. In this review , we discuss the usefulness of biosimilars , need for appropriate regulatory guidelines and their current status in rheumatology in India.

Abstract: Introduction: The measurement of the dialysis dose is a vital element in themanagement of chronic kidney disease patients on maintenance haemodialysis (HD). The dose of haemodialysis is expressed as (K urea x Td)/Vurea (abbreviated as Kt/V).Single-pool variable volume spKt/V is the most widely used at present is the following formulafor calculating Kt/V. Aim: To compare the Kt/V ratio obtained with theDaugirdas formula (D) with the results measured by an Online Clearance Monitor (OCM)..............

Abstract: Avulsion or ex-articulation is a type of traumatic dental injury in which there is complete displacement of the tooth from its alveolar socket. The treatment option for this type of injury is reimplantation i.e. reinserting the tooth in its socket. The success of reimplantation depends on 2 factors: extra alveolar dry time (EODT) and vitality of periodontal ligament (PDL) cells attached to the tooth. The vitality of PDL cells further depends on the type of storage media used while transporting the avulsed tooth from the site of avulsion...........

Abstract: Lichenplanus is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder.Treatment of generalized cutaneous lichen planus is often difficult and associated with relapse. Recently there have been studies reporting beneficial role of weekly oral methotrexate in lichen planus.Atotal of 30 patients were selected after proper history taking and physical examination and normal laboratory investigation. They were divided into two groups A and B containing 15 patients each. Group A received oral methotrexate 15 or 20 mg weekly up to complete response was achieved or for maximum 20-24 weeks whichever was earlier. Then the dose of methotrexate was tapered by 5mg weekly and stopped.Group B received oral prednisone in dose of 0.5-1 mg/kg daily initially..........
