Abstract: Patients with thalassemia syndrome, a group of inherited autosomal recessive haematologic disorder, need multiple blood transfusions, a complication of which is iron overload. Though life saving, but chronic blood transfusion can lead to lethal iron overload injury of liver, often characterized by the development of fibrosis and eventually, cirrhosis and increased serum ferritin. Liver enzymes are raised and indicative of liver injury in transfusion dependant thalassemia patients. To our knowledge no data are available on values of liver enzymes in patients with thalassemia in Murshidabad district. The study was carried out on 50 thalassemia cases and 50 age, sex matched controls to observe any alteration of serum AST and ALT and also whether the alteration could be correlated with common haematological indices. Compared to controls, the cases had significantly higher liver enzymes and there was positive correlation between high ferritin and high liver enzymes level. Taken together, high ferritin and liver enzymes levels might be important predictors for morbidity and mortality in thalassemia.

Abstract: Aim: Study of incidence of ectopic pregnancy in relation to ART usage and other etiological factors. Effect of advances in technology and management approach to ectopic pregnancy. Background: Ectopic pregnancy is a complication of pregnancy in which the embryo attaches outside the uterus. With increase in the incidence of PID and use of ART for infertility, there is increase in the incidence of ectopic pregnancy in recent times. Fewer than 50 percent of affected women have symptoms. TVS is the best for early diagnosis. Medical management has a role in some cases. Material and methods: Prospective study at GMH, Osmania medical college, Hyderabad from February– July 2013. 40 cases of ectopic pregnancy admitted during the period are analyzed as to etiology, clinical presentation, mode of diagnosis and management. There were 40 cases of ectopic pregnancy admitted to our institute during 6 month..........

Abstract: Giant lipomas involving the extremities are rare tumors. These large masses grow slowly and produce symptoms due to their size, location and compression of adjacent structures. Here we present two interesting cases of giant lipomas, one on the left shoulder of eight year duration and other on the right gluteal region of 30 year duration. The lipomas were surgically excised with complete return of normal form and function.

Abstract: Sonography in Obstetrics was first introduced by Ian Donald & colleagues in 1958 at Glasgow University in Great Britain. An early detection of fetal anomalies has become an important part of antenatal care. This helps to identify the severity of disease and its impact, lead ing to either pregnancy termination or gives opportunity for fetal therapy and/or a better neonatal care. Ultrasound is non -invasive and safe and hence can be used repeatedly. It is quick, inexpensive, easily available & causes no discomfort to the patient at any time of gestation. Fetal anomaly scan is usually carriedout at 18 -24 weeks of gestation.

Abstract: A biofilm is a structured consortium of bacteria embedded in a self-produced polymer matrix consisting of polysaccharide, protein and DNA that cause two thirds of all infections and demonstrate a 10 to 1000 fold increase in adaptive resistance to conventional antibiotics as well as resisting phagocytosis and other components of the body's defense system. Currently, there are no approved drugs that satisfactorily and specifically target bacterial biofilms. Human placental extract (HPE 100μg/ ml) containing biomolecules like peptides and nucleotides completely prevented biofilm formation and led to the eradication of mature biofilms in representative strains of both Gram-negative and.........

Abstract: Youth represent a tremendously valuable asset to the society therefore working with them to make a healthy transition to adulthood is critical to the world's development now and in the future. The issue of youth-friendly health service has become a matter of concern as many young people still do not have access to such in the country. The community survey was designed to generate increased understanding of the barriers that limit youth access to sexual and reproductive health services(SRH) offered by Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities in Nigeria. Stratified and Purposive Samplingwith qualitative and quantitative research methodology wasadopted. Qualitative data were obtained through 12..........

Abstract: To our knowledge, there are no data in the English literature to characterize the pattern of prescribing images among dentists. Therefore, we surveyeddentists to determine their habits when requesting images for their patients. Ninety-five recent graduates were surveyed before a continuing education lecture,of which 93 responded. We foundthat recent graduates are unclear about the indications and limitations of the different dental imaging modalities. Therefore, continuing education courses in oral radiology that discuss and compare the available imaging techniques are neededto achieveoptimalpatientcare.

Abstract: Pancreatic diseases benefit from early and appropriate diagnosis and therapeutic intervention. Variety of imaging technologies give clinicians an unparalleled set of tools to help in every day clinical practice and decision-making. The basal techniques include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), radionuclide imaging, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in selected patients. Аdvances in all these technologies and development of molecular-based imaging could enable clinicians to identify diseases at an earlier stage and, thereby, improve patient outcomes. CT is introduced in late 1970s. Since tnen there has been dramatic improvement in pancreatic imaging.
