Abstract: Background: Metabolic syndrome describes clustering of factors including dyslipidemia, glucose intolerance and hypertension with central obesity. The metabolic syndrome has a marked impact on the prevalence of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes worldwide. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome is increasing worldwide & in Bangladesh, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome by using ATP III criteria was found to be 20.7 % for both men and women. Objective: To find out the relation between metabolic syndrome and acute coronary syndrome. Methods: The study was a hospital-based observational study conducted at the cardiology department, Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital. A sample of 200 adults was recruited (group 1-100 patients with ACS, group 2-100.....

Abstract: Cancer cases are increasing in our nation at an alarming rate. Cervical cancer is a leading cause of cancer mortality in women. It is estimated that 1.2 lakh women die of cervical cancer in India annually. India lacks systematic cancer screening and awareness programmes, especially in the rural areas. Patients from rural areas often have to travel long distances even for diagnosis and treatment in super speciality hospitals, which remains quite expensive. The Sanjeevani mobile telemedicine system is an initiative of Malabar Cancer Care Society, Kannur and has its operations more focused in the Northern region of the Kerala state. Early detection of cancer is crucial in determining the prognosis and survival rate of the patients. Majority of the rural folks are unaware of the importance....

Abstract: INTRODUCTION : Hernia is a protrusion of a viscus or part of viscus through an abnormal opening in the wall of its containing cavity. AIMS & OBJECTIVES: This study aims at determining the association of incisional hernia with one, or in various combinations of more specific risk factors such as age, sex, obesity, history of previous wound infection, the type of incision used and the number of previous operations. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifty patients with incisonal hernia admitted to surgical wards of Government Medical College, Mahabubnagar District , form the material of this study. This is a longitudinal study. The study period extends from April 2019 to

Abstract:This study was conducted to elucidate the spectrum of community acquired acute bacterial peritonitis, the role of microbiological culture in its management and other factors affecting its outcome. This was a cross sectional study wherein we examined cases of secondary bacterial peritonitis admitted and operated at our institution from June 2015 to May 2016. The peritoneal fluid was sent for bacterial culture and sensitivity testing. Patients were followed up with relevant progress details till discharge or death. I enrolled 113 patients in my study. The mean age of the study population was 42.4 years with a male : female ratio of 4.35:1. Gastroduodenal perforations formed the major site of perforation (53%), followed by small bowel...

Abstract: Patients And Methods: 39 patients who were suspected to have small bowel disease were examined with MDCT enterography. Results: MDCT enterography easily diagnosed the small bowel disease, than it was confirmed with pathological report , operative data and follow up. Conclusion: MDCT can be used as a first line of modality for detection of small bowel disease, however biopsy would be confirmative method.

Abstract: Background: Hip fractures are common and comprise 20% of the operative workload of an orthopedic trauma unit. Intracapsular femoral neck fractures account for 50% of all hip fractures. The use of bipolar hemiarthroplasty has been a very popular alternative to the unipolar hemiarthroplasty. The traditional approaches most commonly utilized for hip arthroplasty are the posterior approach and the direct lateral approach. Minimally invasive hip arthroplasty has now become popular around the world. The minimally invasive approach is described as having a lower degree of trauma for the soft-tissues and, in particular, for the muscles thus facilitating less postoperative....

Abstract: Introduction: An incidental adnexal mass is a common finding that is routinely evaluated by gynecologists and gynecologic oncologists. In fact, in the United States nearly 5 to 10% of women at some point in their lives will undergo surgical evaluation of a suspected ovarian neoplasm. Materials and Methods: The present study was conducted in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum during the period of September 2012 to August 2013. Data like age, age of menarche, menstrual history, menopause, gravida, surgery, OC pill and family history were noted from the records available in Department of Medical Records and recorded on a predesigned and pretested proforma......

Abstract: Bacteria is considered as the etiological agents for most of the endodontic diseases. Mere surgical removal of the periapical lesions without proper root canal disinfection and obturation will not result in the healing of periapical tissues. When the treatment is done properly, healing usually happens by osseous regeneration, which is seen as reduction in radiolucency in subsequent radiographs. This case highlights follow up results of resolution of periapical pathology achieved through a non surgical approach, observed over a period of 12 months. Emphasis is laid on thorough debridement and three dimensional obturation of root canal system by a simple lateral condensation technique in the case.

Abstract: Background: Skulls frequently represent the only skeletal remains of an unidentified corpse brought for forensic examination. This study aims to determine the correlation between the cadaveric supine length and the length of three cranial sutures viz. coronal, sagittal, and lambdoid. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the department of forensic medicine, Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal between the period of January 2016-June 2017. A total of 500 dead bodies were examined for this study. We utilized the correlation coefficient and the linear regression methods to predict a relationship between the stature and the length of cranial sutures....
