Title | : | Evaluation and Management of Splenic Injury In Blunt Abdominal Trauma |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr Nikhila Pinjala || Dr.N.Nageswara Rao || Dr.M.MallikarjunaReddy |
Abstract: With a view to prevent the immediate and late complications of operative procedures of spleen, especially the risk of Overwhelming post-splenectomy syndrome (OPSS), non operativemanagement has been proposed when the haemodynamic condition of the patient permits. This study was done to evaluate the prevalence, severity and mode of splenic trauma, management techniques (non operative& operative) and complications amongst the blunt abdominal trauma cases admitted in NRI General Hospital, a tertiary referral centre between the period October 2013 to September 2015........

Abstract: By exploiting the synergism between intrathecal opioids and local anaesthetics it may be possible to augment the quality of spinal anaesthesia both intra and post operatively. We had evaluated in this prospective randomized double blind study to evaluate the effect of 25μg of fentanyl added to 12.5mg hyperbaric bupivacaine regarding time of onset and level of sensory block,intensity of motor block, duration of analgesia, haemodynamic stability and complications (if any).........

Abstract: Malaria is a common transfusion-transmissible infection. There has been growing evidence that ABO blood group antigens influence susceptibility and resistance to parasitaemia. This study was aimed at determining the prevalence of parasitaemia in blood donors and the association between blood group antigens and parasitaemia. Malaria parasitaemia was determined by microscopy of Giemsa- stained thick and thin blood smears made from donor samples.........

Abstract: Avulsion of tooth is a common emergency situation that may occurs after a traumatic accident. It requires immediate care because the time elapsed between the trauma and the start of treatment is considered the most important factor in the prognosis. This case report describes the successful management of an avulsed tooth that has been stored in saliva for a period of 18 hours. The tooth was root canal treated extraorally, immersed in Doxycycline hydrochloride for 20 minutes and immediately replanted. Anterior maxillary teeth were splinted by a semi-rigid splint. After 2 weeks splint was removed and a radiographic review was done. 6 months follow-up revealed no radiographic or clinical signs and symptoms.

Title | : | Prospective Study of Management of Distal Tibia Fracture with Locking Compression Plate Using Minimally Invasive Percutaneous Plate Osteosynthesis Technique |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr.Sandeep Ravindran(Ms-Orthopaedic) || Prof. Dr Salauddin Arif K |
Abstract:Distal diametaphyseal tibia fracture though requires operative treatment is difficult to manage. Conventional osteosynthesis is not suitable because distal tibia is subcutaneous bone with poor vascularity. Closed reduction and minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) with locking compression plate (LCP) has emerged as an alternative treatment option because it respects biology of distal tibia and fracture hematoma and also provides biomechanicaly stable construct especially in patient with Co-morbid factors and addictions. Our study aimed to manage fractures of the distal third tibia by the minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis technique and follow them prospectively.

Abstract:Oral anticoagulant is often prescribed in patients at risk of thromboembolic diseases, for prophylactic reason. The drug is associated with attendant risk of bleeding as side effect, often due to over dosage or synergistic interaction with other drugs. We report a case of patient on oral anticoagulant, with unsuspected massive mesenteric haematoma, haemoperitoneum and haemorrhagic infarction of small bowel, accidentally discovered at laparotomy.

Title | : | An Experience with Intestinal Crohn's Disease- a Case Report |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Garga Basu || Souvik Saha and Sourav Mondal |
Abstract: India nurtures a large population of Tuberculosis unlike Crohn's which is mainly a disease of Western population. Clinicopathological similarity between these two diseases often creates a dilemma and divert the physician from choosing the right path of healing. Besides Tuberculosis, being endemic in India, we often misdiagnose the cases of Crohn's as TB and thereby complicating the overall scenario. In our case report, we are showing three such cases of Crohn's misdiagnosed pre-operatively as tuberculosis, thus hampering the proper management and treated surgically. Cases of crohn's are now increasing in India especially in the last two decades. The purpose of this publication is, to report, thus creating an awareness among caregivers to diagnose these types of cases, keeping both Crohn's and Tuberculosis in mind so as not only to execute a proper plan of management but also to alleviate the sufferings of the patients at its minimum.

Abstract: Peptic ulcers include gastric ulcers, Esophageal ulcers and Duodenal ulcers. The aim of this study is to have a clinical presentation of peptic ulcer perforation and to study the various method and management of peptic ulcer perforation .The treatment of perforated ulcer disease continues to evolve because of recent advances in pharmacology, bacteriology, and operative technique. The main surgical treatment option was simple closure with Graham patch.

Title | : | Management of Giant Cell Tumour of Proximal Tibia with Pathological Fracture by Knee Arthrodesis Using Locking Plate: A Case Report. |

Abstract:Giant cell tumor is a common neoplasm which may affect subchondral bone and aggressively destroy bone and surrounding soft tissues. Such tumors need to be removed without residual cells. The bone defect thus created needs to be filled up, either by reconstruction with graft or the joint be entirely replaced by arthroplasty with custom made megaprosthesis. In some cases, resection with fusion of the joint may be attempted. This prevents joint movement but is much more affordable than arthroplasty. Here we are presenting one such case of giant cell tumor of right tibia with resection arthrodesis of knee who has had reasonably satisfactory outcome.

Abstract: Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is first line treatment of symptomatic cholecystectomy. We compare standard (4 ports) laparoscopic cholecystectomy to three ports laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Methods: From November 2011 to July 2012, total of 60 patients underwent LC, out of which 30 had standard ports LC and next 30 had three ports LC. Results: Intra-operative findings were similar in both groups. There was no postoperative mortality observed in either group. There was no significant difference observed in two groups regarding operative time and conversion to open cholecystectomy.............

Title | : | Choroidal Neovascularisation In A Case Of Central Serous Retinopathy |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Kshama Dwivedi || Dr. Ravindra Kumar || Dr. Vibha Singh || Dr. Harsh Mathur |
Abstract: Centralserous retinopathy is commonly acquired macular disorder, seen more frequently in males of young males who have type A personality. But this is the case of sixteen year old female who experienced recurrence after 1.25 years of initial episode. The recurrence was associated with choroidal neovascularization, though there were no predisposing factors. High degree of suspicion led to early detection and prompt treatment of choroidal neovascularization, which restored the vision.So regular follow up of these patients and high index of suspicion in atypical cases is very important.
