Title | : | An Analytical Study Of Literature To Evaluate, "Does DMARDs Prevent Cartilage Degeneration In Rheumatoid Arthritis?" |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Lakshya Chaudhary || Khushboo Choudhary || Sankalp Chaudhary |
Abstract: An analytical study was carried out to evaluate "Does DMARDs prevent cartilage degeneration in Rheumatoid Arthritis?". The study is a critical analysis of review of literature. The review was divided into three main parts viz. etio-pathogenesis of RA, drug profile of DMARDs, experimental and clinical studies which evaluate the effect of DMARDs on articular cartilage. It was found that exact etiology of the disease is not known and three probable causes are genetic, auto-immune disorders and infection...........

Title | : | Retrospective Study Of Intra Articular Administration Of Tranexamic Acid For Controlling Blood Loss Post Total Knee Replacement. |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Manu K Prathap || Dr. Deepak K Rai || Dr Mohammed Niaz |
Abstract: Intraarticular administration of tranexamic acid (TEA) reduces blood loss in post total knee arthroplasty (TKA).We carried out a case control study evaluating the effect of intraarticular tranexamic acid on postoperative hemoglobin, blood units transfused, total drain output on day1, day2 in 50 patients (25 study group and 25 control group) undergoing unilateral/bilateral TKA. Significant reduction in total drain output was found in study group as compared to the control group. Postoperative hemoglobin was found to be low in control group.So the intraarticular use of tranexamic acid reduces postoperative blood loss and the need for blood transfusion is minimized............

Abstract: Background and objectives: Fracture of distal third of femur is encountered because these fractures most often result from high velocity injuries as femur is the largest bone of the body. It is one of the principal load bearing bones in the lower extremity.[1] One must have a high index of suspicion for complications or other injuries as it can cause prolonged morbidity and extensive disability like joint stiffness due to post traumatic arthritis unless treatment is appropriate............

Title | : | Sensitivity of MRSA & MSSA to Different Antiseptics & Disinfectants |

Authors | : | Somanjana Ghosh || Soumyajyoti Bandyopadhyay || Sudipta Paul || Aniket Paul || Shouvanik Adhya |
Abstract: It has been a common practice to use various antiseptics, disinfectants and sterilizing agents in clinical and household practices. Antiseptic draping and dressings are prerequisites before every surgical procedure barring a very selected few. However the important question is what is the sensitivity of one of the most common pathogen staphylococcus aureus to the commonly used antiseptics. Fact observed is that most bacteria and specially MRSA and MSSA are commonly insensitive to usual concentrations of household and clinical antiseptics. Improved hand hygiene practices and use of antiseptics in adequate concentration will help in further arrest of staphylococcus infections............

Title | : | Spleen Morphology with Clinical Significance and a Bilobed Spleen –A Legacy from the Past! |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Kharat Vidya Shankarrao || Garud Rajendra |
Abstract: Spleen is the largest organized lymphoid tissue in the human body. It is the primary haemopoeitic organ in mammalian evolution. Morphological variations of spleen are plenty which are well documented in literature. In the present study of 50 human cadaveric spleens we observed morphological variations and compared these with similar findings by other authors. We also observed an extremely rare variation of 'bilobed' spleen...........

Abstract: Abnormal Uterine Bleeding affectsabout 5 to 15% of women in reproductive age, in developing countries including India. [1] The investigation and treatment of patients with Abnormal Uterine Bleeding has been hampered by lack of proper investigatory protocol and targeting the appropriate mechanism. Hence, there is a need for awareness among the administrators, doctors, nurses and paramedical staffs. Methodology: The study was carried out in S.R.T.RG.M.C, Ambajogai. The population included fifty participants who were medical graduates working as an interns in the same hospital. They were subjected to a short training session regarding the Biomedical Waste management. The participants were also subjected to the questionnaire before and after the session............

Abstract: Background and Aims: Awareness during regional anesthesia (RA) and monitored anesthesia care (MAC) is a cause of concern and may occur due to unknown or unmet expectations. We aimed to study the preoperative expected level of consciousness and anxiety and their actual experiences intraoperatively in patients undergoing surgery under RA or MAC in a subset of female patients in Indian population. Material and Methods: It was a prospective observational study, done in a tertiary care teaching public hospital over a period of 6 months and included 80 patients undergoing gynecological and ear, nose, throat surgeries under RA or MAC. A structured valid interview was administered to them. Data was analyzed using SPSS v.15............

Abstract: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of intravenous iron sucrose and oral iron administration for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia in pregnancy. Hundred women with established iron deficiency anemia with Haemoglobin less than 10 gm/dL (moderate to severe anemia) were randomised to receive either oral ferrous sulphate tablet 335 mg twice daily (100 mg elemental iron per tablet) or calculated dose of intravenous iron sucrose. Haemoglobin, haematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, reticulocyte count were measured at recruitment and on 4th week............

Abstract: Bisphosphonates related osteonecrosis of Jaw (BROJ) is one of the serious complication caused by consumption of bisphosphonates mainly by intravenous routes which has been taken during the treatment of metastatic diseases. Bisphosphonates are non-metabolized analogues of pyrophosphate that avidly attach to bone mineral more or less resorbing osteoclasts and inhibit their function.............

Abstract: Context: Periodontitis and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) together form the most challenging health issues in both the developing and developed countries. Non-surgical periodontal therapy seems to have many systemic benefits. Not many Indian studies have looked at the effect of NSPT on subjects with CKD. Title | : | Segmental Small Bowel Ischemia In A Patient Of Buergers Disease Of Lower Extremity, A Rare Case Report |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr R K Shastri |
Abstract: In 1908 Buerger described the clinical aspects of thromboangitis obliterans primarily affecting small to medium size arteries and veins and surrounding neural elements, particularly of lower extrimities but rarely affect brain [9], heart [10] and abdominal viscera. He mentioned obliterating vasculopathy could involve visceral arteries.
