Title | : | The Study of Relationship of Alpha Fetoprotein and CA-125 Levels with Iron Overload in the Β-Thalassemic Tribal Children Receiving Multiple Blood Transfusions |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Suman Chatterjee || Santa Saha-Roy || Sumanta Banerjee || Dibakar Haldar || Pinaki Sarkar || Tanima Mandal |
Abstract: Blood transfusion is the mainstay of treatment for Beta thalassemia, an inherited blood disorder and a major public health problem. Such treatment leads to extensive iron-induced injury in the heart, liver, pancreas and endocrine system. Paediatric tribal population receiving multiple blood transfusions for treatment of β-thalassemia has been studied to evaluate the relationship between iron overload with AFP and CA125 and to predict early liver damage. Information pertaining to demographics, blood transfusion and the nature of chelation therapy etc. was obtained on thirty-two patients, attending Bankura Sammilani Medical College, Bankura, and receiving multiple blood transfusions...................

Title | : | Placental laterality: As a predictor for the development of Pre- eclampsia |
Country | : | India. |
Authors | : | Kanika Chandra || Sunita Maheshwari |
Abstract: Objective: To find whether placental laterality as determined by ultrasound can be used as predictor for the development of pre-eclampsia. Methods: This prospective study was conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, R.N.T. Medical College, Udaipur from 2014 to 2015. 100 pregnant women attending antenatal clinic both OPD and IPD at 20–24 weeks of gestation without any high risk factor were subjected to ultrasound examination, and placental location was determined. These cases were followed for the development of signs and symptoms of pre-eclampsia............

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr Ravi S Allichandi || Dr Sayyid M Khilari |
Abstract: Elevated leucocyte count is marker of inflammation. Atherosclerosis has been increasingly recognised as complex and multifactorial inflammatory disease. Inflammation plays a key role in the initiation, progression and complications of atherosclerosis. So there is need to study relationship between leucocyte count and atherosclerosis. Objective: to determine the relation between Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio and severity of atherosclerosis in coronary arteries. Material and methods: prospective observational study, done on 200 patients, presented with angina or angina like symptoms. Evaluated by blood investigations and coronary angiogram............

Authors | : | Dr. K.Venkata Vigneswara Rao M.S. (Gen Surgery) || Dr. K.Srinivasa Rao M.S (Gen Surgery) |
Abstract: 30 cases of abdominal tuberculosis were studied between November 2013 to November 2015 in different surgical units of Government General Hospital, attached to Guntur Medical College, Guntur and affiliated to NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, AP. The different surgical procedures which were undertaken for established abdominal tuberculosis with failed conservative therapy were analysed. The results were compared with previously published studies, with respect to objective. Most common procedure that was done was Limited Segmental Resection. Post-operative wound infections responded well to anti tubercular
treatment with reasonable low mortality.

Abstract: Focal Hepatic Lesionsare common findings as a result of the ever increasing use of imaging techniques in patients with nonspecific abdominal complaints. This study was undertaken to compare unenhanced ultrasound versus computed tomographyin evaluation of patients with focal hepatic lesions. Methods: In this study, 100 cases of focal hepatic lesions were studied with USG and CECT abdomen. Imaging findings were evaluated and tabulated and correlated with the clinical findings, histopathological findings and follow up. The findings were checked and statistically tabulated............

Abstract: A female child aged 8 months presented with features of infantile spasms, partial corpus callosal agenesis and chorioretinal lacunae. She had early onset infantile spasms from 2 months of age. This patient responded well to vigabatrin used over 2 months at our center, after failure of many antiepileptic drugs. This case is reported for its rarity and the classic clinical, electrographic and radiological features particularly in Indian context.

Abstract: Restricted mouth opening is a definite prosthodontic hindrance to carry out treatment successfully. Various methods and attachments have been used to design sectional dentures for such patients. This clinical report describes a combination and modification of previous methods using three different attachments (dual die-pins, press-buttons & Nd-Fe-B magnets) for fabrication of sectional complete dentures in a patient with oral submucous fibrosis. The technique described is simple, cost-effective and does not require any special devices or complex locking joints.

Abstract: Small Blue Round Cell Tumors (SBRCT) include a heterogenous group of neoplasms most commonly seen in paediatric age group. With the advent of specific treatment protocols, pathologist must thrive to categorise SBRCT into a defined diagnosis. 56 cases of SBRCT were studied over a period of two years and differentiated histologically by Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and Histopathological examination (HPE). In some cases accurate diagnosis was possible by special stains and Immunohistochemistry (IHC

Abstract: Incisional hernia is defined as a hernia occurring through defect in the operative scar. The incidence of incisional hernia in literature is 2- 11% following all laparotomies and it is a source of morbidity and requires high healthcare costs. As a result of high recurrence rate in the repair of incisional hernia, various types of repairs have been used both anatomical and prosthetic. But high recurrence in anatomical repair(2). So, there is introduction of prosthetics(mesh) in hernia surgery with the concept of tension free hernia repair.

Abstract: The buccal fat is an important anatomic structure intimately related to the masticatory muscles, facial nerve , and parotid duct.while anatomically complex , an understanding of its boundaries will allow the surgeon to safely manipulate this structure in reconstructive and aesthetic procedures . Technically, the buccal fat pad is easily accessed and moblized . It is does not cause any noticeable defect in the cheek or mouth, and it can be performed in a very short time and without causing complication for the patient. The pedicled BFP graft is more resistant to infection than other kinds of free graft and will result in very success...........

Abstract: Background: The frequency of gastro-esophageal reflux disease is rising, and there has been a real spread of the disease as a consequence of modernity, lifestyle, dietary and behavioral norms, stress, work conditions and life in general. It is usually diagnosed with radiographic methods that employ contrast dyes, endoscopes, catheters and capsules to measure the intra-esophageal pH, impedance measurement.The purpose of our study was to highlight the relationship between gastro-esophageal reflux disease and chronic rhinitis using salivary pH measurement with indicator strips............

Abstract: Myxomas are common intracardaic tumours. These lesions are friable and easy to embolise. We present data of surgical excision of this tumour in 8 patients,2012 to 2016. Patients data regarding age, sex, clinical presentation,size of myxoma, bypass time ,cross clamp time, postoperative course were noted. All patients were operated for removal of myxoma. Care was taken to ensure that minimal handling of the heart is carried out during the conduct of cardio-pulmonary bypass (CPB) Of the 8 patients operated. 5 of the patients presented with LV inflow obstruction............

Title | : | Desmoid Tumor of the Anterior Abdominal Wall in A Young Woman: A Case Report |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr R K Shastri, MS |
Abstract: Desmoid tumors are uncommon benign neoplasms but they aggressively invade the surrounding tissue, making it difficult to remove them surgically. Even after an apparent complete excision they often tend to recur but have no metastatic potential.They arise from fibro aponeurotic tissue and present as a slow growing mass. Most common symptom is pain. Other signs and symptoms are caused by the growth of the tumor in to the surrounding tissue. Intra abdominal desmoids may result in an intestinal obstruction. Extremity desmoids can restrict the movement of affected joints and cause limping or difficulty in arm or leg movements............
