Title | : | Six Sigma Applications in Reducing Cancellation of Operative Procedure in Operation Theatre of a Tertiary Care Hospital |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr M Kusuma || Dr Ravi Babu || Dr Mohan Neela Judith |
Abstract: The advancement in technology, globilization,privatization and liberalization policies have significantly changed the health care scenario all over the world,Quality operation theatres (OT)are the key area which involves huge investment, it is a high priority service area from the management point of view which requires adequate attention ,willingness to improve efficiency for better return of investment. Quality is a constant concern. Surgical suite is a unique environment which is susceptible to variation and error. Six sigma can help to reduce variability and ensure that services are delivered in the safest possible manner.................

Title | : | Knowledge and Perception of Telemedicine among Post Graduate Students of a Tertiary Hospital Of West Bengal |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr.Indira Dey || Prof. Dr. Susmita Bhattacharya |
Abstract: In recent years there has been a great concern to introduce telemedicine into healthcare system throughout the world. This initiative can change medical education and health care delivery to a large extent. However, its use seems to be limited till date. So this study was carried out to evaluate the knowledge and perception of telemedicine among post graduate students of a tertiary hospital of West Bengal. The study was conducted among 150 PG students of NRS Medical College, Kolkata. Most of the students were male and were less than 30 years of age...........

Title | : | Coping Strategies and Blood Pressure Control among Hypertensive Patients in a Nigerian Tertiary Health Institution |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | Aina FO || Ajayi EA || Kumolalo FB3Inubile AJ |
Abstract: Background:The diagnosis of hypertensive in an individual could be regarded as a major challenge and hence constitute a stressor. It is therefore expected that such an individual will develop some strategies of coping with such a challenge. The management outcome will be influenced by the strategies deployed by the patient in coping with the reality of such a chronic illness. This work was designed to determine the type of coping strategies employ by the subjects, the relationship with blood pressure control, and identifiable patient characteristics that my contribute to the choice of coping strategy..........

Title | : | Visual evoked potentials in Parkinson's disease and its correlation with age and disease severity: an Indian study |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Niveditha Pari || Dr. D. Celine || Dr. K. Padma |
Abstract: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurological disorder. While the motor symptoms predominate the clinical picture of PD and define the Parkinsonian syndrome, many patients have other complaints that are classified as non-motor. Few studies have shown that visual impairment occurs as co-morbidity in old PD patients. They are not often discernible by regular clinical tests. With the help of the electrophysiological testing method – visual evoked potentials (VEP), this study enables to find out the subclinical involvement of visual pathway in those patients and to assess the correlation of VEP changes with age and disease severity..........

Title | : | Management of Infusion Reactions to Taxane Based Chemotherapy: Review Article |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | T.raja, Satyasrinivas |
Abstract: Background: Virtually all chemotherapeutic agents have the potential to initiate infusion reactions, defined in this review as unexpected reactions that cannot be explained by the known toxicity profile of the drug. The cytotoxic agents that are most commonly associated with infusion reactions are the taxanes, platinum drugs, pegylated liposomal doxorubicin, L-asparaginase, procarbazine, etoposide, bleomycin, cytarabine, and ixabepilone. While these are often referred to as "hypersensitivity reactions," many do not have an allergic component............

Abstract: Background: Dilated Cardioyopathy (Dcm) is the commonest form of myocardial disease seen in children. It represents a common expression of myocardial damage that has been produced by a variety of yet un established myocardial insults. It is important to realize that the prognosis of children with untreatable cardiomyopathies is dismal in our country where cardiac transplantation and palliative procedures are not routinely available...........

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr. Madan K || Dr. Rajesh K N || Dr. Latika Sharma || Dr. Ram Ratan Yadav || Dr. Awadhesh Kumar |
Abstract: The term acute abdomen refers to signs and symptoms of abdominal pain and tenderness, a clinical presentation that often requires emergency surgical therapy.1 This challenging clinical scenario requires a thorough and expeditious workup to determine the need for operative intervention and initiate appropriate therapy. The most difficult challenge is making a timely diagnosis so that treatment can be initiated and morbidity preserved. The total and differential leukocyte counts are being used as an adjunct to clinical and radiological signs and CRP levels as prognostic indicators in patients with acute abdomen..........

Authors | : | Anil Kumar Saroj || J. N. Sharma || S.Sita Raman |
Abstract: The most challenging part of infant mortality is large proportion of new born deaths, contributing to an estimated 64% of all infant deaths, mostly in the first week of life. Major causes of neonatal mortality are diseases associated with low birth weight babies (LBW). To determine the utility of using foot length as a screening tool to identify Low Birth weight babies in need of extra care..........

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Dr.Poonam Woike || Dr. Gajendra Pal Singh Uike || Dr. Sudha Iyengar || Dr. Rajesh Gaur || Dr. Dharmesh Chandra Sharma |
Abstract: Primary thyroid lymphoma is a very rare disease. It presents with rapidly growing mass in elderly patients. In this report we present a case of primary lymphoma of the thyroid gland in a 55 year old male. Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) was used as the first line of investigation in the diagnosis. Prognosis of thyroid lymphoma is excellent and chemotherapy for widespread lymphomas and radiotherapy with or without adjuvant chemotherapy for tumors localized to the gland, are the treatment of choice

Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Kinjal Gathani || Srinidhi Surya Raghavendra || Pratik Kotadia || Niranjan Desai || Nishant Vyavahare || Ajit Hindlekar |
Abstract: Restoration of grossly decayed teeth is considered to be a challenging situation for any practitioner Inspite of the advances in material science none of the material completely simulate the physical and mechanical properties of natural tooth structure. These differences in properties can lead to failures at the tooth-restoration interface, can cause increased wear of opposing natural tooth or can lead to eventual fracture of the tooth. This case report describes a novel method of restoration of a grossly decayed mandibular first molar with a post-core and crown using the natural tooth structure derived from the mandibular third molar of the same patient while also ensuring an accurate fit.

Abstract: Cervical cancer (CC) is the 2nd most common cause of cancer death among women globally. Worldwide, out of 7.6 million cancer deaths, 3.6% was due to CC in 2008 and out of 12.7 million new cancer cases, 4.2% were CC in 2008 and 84% of it occurs in less developed countries . Cervical cancer was the 3rd largest cause of cancer mortality in India in 2004 and related mortality rate was 15.2/100,000 women in 2008. Amongst different cities, its incidence was highest in Chennai in the year 1982 (41/100,000), 1991(33.4/100,000) and 2005(22/100,000 )..............

Abstract: Introduction: Ewing's sarcoma localized to foot is extremely rare. Local control is mandatory because of the aggressive nature of the tumor. Therapeutic options for these local tumors include neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery. Case Presentation: A 16-year-old male patient presented with 8-month history of progressive swelling and intermittent pain of the right great toe. Plain radiography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed an expansile mass that had originated from the proximal phalanx of the great toe and was destructing and surrounding the distal phalanx.........
