Abstract: Acute pancreatitis is an acute inflammatory process involving pancreas and peri-pancreatic tissue, with a range of severity as well as various local and systemic complications. It is a common disorder causing substantial burden to the health care system. The process involved in acute pancreatitis is complex in which pancreatic damage is caused by pancreatic enzyme activation, which results in an acute inflammatory response. BISAP score is a 5 point bedside score. It is inexpensive to perform and easy to obtain. BISAP uses 5 points: Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) > 25mg/dl, impaired mental status evidenced by disorientation or disturbance in mental status, presence of SIRS, age > 60 years and Pleural Effusion . BISAP score has been shown to be accurate in predicting the severity of acute pancreatitis in western population.

Abstract: A prospective study was carried out in 100 burns patients admitted in burns unit of S.V.R.R.Government general hospital,Tirupati over a period of one year from October 2016 to August 2017 to evaluate time related changes in aerobic bacteria colonization and their susceptibility pattern. Introduction: A burn is a wound in which there is coagulative necrosis of the tissue, majority of which are caused by heat. Burn injury is a major public health problem in many areas of the world. Burns predispose to infection by damaging the protective barrier function of the skin, thus facilitating the entry of pathogenic microorganisms and by inducing systemic immunosuppression.(1) Objective: The present study was therefore undertaken to isolate and identify the aerobic bacterial flora in burn patients and its antibiotic susceptibility pattern...........

Abstract: This paper presents the implementation of an improved inventory management and control system in a Cath lab store. Inventory management system involves the procurement, stocking, and issue of materials to the maintenance department as and when required. Inventory management is the main area in which many process industries are suffering. The aim of this work is to design inventory models for such a system in a process industry. The existing system of inventory control of items reveals that past data cannot be taken as the major decision criteria. The important decision making criterion related to items is criticality, lead time and consumption value which need to be accounted for effective control of inventory management in the organization. Data are collected from various sources like log books, ledgers, annual financial statements and published articles of the company. ABC Analysis, selective ABC and VED analysis, lead time and service level are incorporated in order to obtain 3D models and suggestions were given to improve the inventory management of items. The key performance indicators were also established to give benchmark operations.

Abstract: Intra abdominal hypertension, defined as a sustained increase in Intra abdominal pressure can cause direct mechanical impairment of respiratory, hemodynamic, renal and splanchnic function. Organ dysfunction attributable to increased intra abdominal pressure has been termed the abdominal compartment syndrome. The abdominal compartment syndrome has been increasingly recognized as a source of morbidity and mortality in traumatized patient following laprotomy, typically as a result of massive visceral edema, retroperitoneal hemorrhage, or intra abdominal packing1. Abdominal compartment syndrome has also been reported in non traumatized patients. Various systems are involved in this syndrome first the increased abdominal pressure is transmitted to the pleural space so that lung compliance decreases. Hypoventilation and alteration of ventilation or perfusion distribution lead to hypoxia.........

Abstract: Neonatal sepsis was found to be the singleton important cause of high mortality and morbidity of the Sick neonatal care Unit of our institution, where the majority of patients were still striving to find proper measures to access the medical facility in time, being entangled in the webs of poor socio-economic conditions, remoteness and lack of transport facilities, poor hygiene, malnutrition, inadequate antenatal care; and above all, ignorance. In this background, prematurity, low birth weight, birth asphyxia including Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy, even sometimes congenital anomalies, were prominent predisposing factors for neonatal sepsis; often requiring intubation and mechanical ventilation which led to ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP). In this study extended over one year, we intended to search for the predictability of ET tube culture reports for VAP among neonatal sepsis cases, the bacteriological.........

Abstract: Treatment of distal both bone leg fractures include intramedullary nailing, hybrid external fixation, plate fixation or combining any of thesemodalities. While Interlocking nailing of tibial fractures is advantageous in allowing load sharing without disturbing the extra osseous blood supply and less damage to soft tissues with relatively easy learning curve. For correction of alignment before the insertion of nail and maintaining the alignment and to improve the rotational stability of bone implant complex, fibular plating plays a vital role in the management.Hence in our study we analysed the role of fibular plating in the management of distal both bone fractures of the leg. This..........

Abstract: Atraumatic extraction is an issue of interest for both dentists and patients, as it preserves the alveolar ridge in a sound state where immediate dental implants are indicated or when rapid healingis needed, or even for successful prosthetic rehabilitation. In this study we are using the new technique of extraction where the extraction is performed atraumatically using the physics forceps , by using a single first class lever, creep, stressdistribution, rather than squeezing and pulling the alveolus. Two patients indicated for extraction of their badly decayed teeth, using atraumatic extraction technique were included in this study as case studies, the time taken for extraction was recorded for each case.Postoperative clinical evaluation was performed on the 3rd and 7th day to check the healing, pain intensity, and presence of any complication . In conclusion:physics forceps may be of a help in certain cases to improve the quality of dental extraction.

Abstract: Neonatal period is considered the most important age group at all times as newborn are most vulnerable to disease and death. Sepsis is the commonest cause of neonatal mortality. It is responsible for about 30-50% of total neonatal deaths in developing countries.⁽¹̛ ²⁾ Neonatal sepsis can be classified into two subtypes depending upon whether the onset of symptoms is before 72 hours of life (early onset) or after 72 hours of life (late onset)⁽³⁾.The neonate immune system is underdeveloped. An algorithmic approach utilizes sepsis screen for management of asymptomatic as well as symptomatic neonates with sepsis. Clinical symptomatology can be mild and non-specific. The definite diagnosis based on culture is not available for at least 2 days. Also, none of the tests alone have sufficient accuracy and reliability. So a combination of tests is used to diagnose probable sepsis. This combination is called "Sepsis Screen".⁽⁴⁾Thepresent study was carried out to identify risk factors and clinical profile of neonatal sepsis in the neonatal unit. Aim of the study was to find clinical profile and risk factors associated with neonatal sepsis.

Abstract: The duration and severity of alcohol withdrawal is a great concern while treating alcohol dependent patients. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been used in few centers world over, for faster recovery of withdrawal symptoms. The present study aimed to undertake a preliminary study exploring this possibility. Thirty alcohol dependent patients were recruited in this study. They were divided into A: HBOT group (received hyperbaric oxygen therapy for 90 minutes) and B: non-HBOT group (received normobaric oxygen therapy for 90 minutes) using simple randomization technique. Withdrawal symptoms were assessed daily, using the Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment scale (CIWA-Ar). The data collected from the two groups were compared. Statistical analysis used was.........

Abstract: Hydatid disease - a common disease in the tropics is caused as a result of infection by tapeworm. The disease is widely spread due to close association with sheeps and dogs. This disease affects different parts of the body with liver and kidney being the commonly affected parts. We present to you a 42-year old man with Hydatid diasease with history of abdominal mass occupying his entire right upper abdominal quadrant with associated pain. Imaging modalities such as Ultrasound and Computed Tomography (CT) scan played a vital role in diagnosing this disease.

Abstract: Resistance of metallo-β-lactamase has emerged worldwide among Gram-negative bacilli. There are several non-molecular techniques which take advantage of the enzyme's zinc dependence by using chelating agents, such as EDTA to inhibit its activity. Our laboratory has chosen some simple and cost-effective phenotypic MBL detection methods which will identify such organisms. This study was carried out from 1stJanuary 2015 to 31stDecember 2016 in a tertiary care hospital, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Urine, throat swabs and wound swabs were collected from patients after admission. GNB were isolated and antibiotic resistance were evaluated by Kirby Bauer'.................
