Abstract: Introduction: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy is a broad spectrum entity complicating pregnancy from 2nd trimester onwards with increasing prevalence leading to unfavourable maternal & foetal outcome Aim: 1. To study the accuracy of elevated S.uric acid levels as a predictor of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy& its complications. 2. To evaluate the maternal & perinatal outcome in relation to raised S. uric acid levels in women with PIH. Methodology: Hundred pregnant women in the age group of 20-40 yrs, in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy, diagnosed as cases of pre ecclampsia, were included in the study after prior informed consent. The patients were investigated & followed up. Records of maternal & foetal outcome and the complications arising due to pre ecclampsia were maintained. The results were correlated with levels of S.uric acid and statistically analysed. Results:The.......

Abstract: All major cities of India face haphazard, unplanned expansion leading to increase in population. Ultimately there is creation of slum areas around city peripheries and low-lying areas due to this unchecked growth.. Environmental degradation is fundamentally linked to poverty in India, which is the main obstacle in dealing with environment related problems and health. If effective and practical solutions to remedy environmental hazards are to be taken, this environment poverty nexus cannot be ignored. Objective- To assess environmental risk factors and their resultant diseases in slum areas of Shahabad (Dist. Kurukshetra). Material and methods- This cross sectional........

Abstract: With the availability of dinoprostone sustained release vaginal pessary in India, for induction of labour (IOL), this study was planned with the aim of studying its clinical efficacy and comparing it with another preparation of dinoprostone which has been available and being used since years for IOL, i.e. instant released intracervical gel. Different study from west has shown the vaginal dinoprostone to be safe and efficacies for IOL, and PGE2 in different forms of tablets, gel and pessary appear to be equally efficacies. The vaginal preparation has an advantage of single application, slow and sustained release of drug over 24 hours, less invasiveness, ease of administration and removal allowing greater dose control. Patients selected for induction were offered sustained release vaginal preparation and intracervical preparation alternatively and relevant data were collected for first 100 patients for each group. There was statistically insignificant difference between the two groups in parity, gestational......

Abstract: Introduction: Epilepsy is a disorder of the brain. The psychiatric conditions can present either periictally or interictally. Higher rates of psychiatric disorders are observed in people with epilepsy compared with the general population and other medical conditions and that leads to consequences of disability, unemployment, dependence, social limitations, driving restrictions. Aims & Objectives:1.To assess the prevalence and pattern of psychiatric co-morbidity in patient with epilepsy,2.To determine the role of socio-demographic factors in patient with epilepsy having psychiatric illness. Materials & Method: In this cross-sectional study, 200 cases of epilepsy were taken from Medicine OPD, PDU Medial College & Hospital, Rajkot. GHQ-12 scale was applied for screening of psychiatric disorders and thereafter detailed interview was conducted with patient and psychiatric disorders were diagnosed according to DSM-V criteria. Results & Discussion: Psychiatric co-morbidity was...........

Abstract: Background: Being the highest contributor to under‑5 mortality, neonatal mortality and morbidity has great impact to the attainment of millennium development goals 4 (MDG 4). In India and other developing countries, this indicator strongly poses a major challenge in achieving this goal. Objectives: To determine the morbidity and mortality pattern of admitted babies in the Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of Bankura Sammalini Medical College and Hospital,Bankura,West Bengal. Materials and Methods: This is a comparative and descriptive longitudinal study of causes of morbidity and mortality between babies born within (inborn) and outside our hospital facilities (outborn) based on information on place of birth, APGAR scores, age on admission, diagnosis on admission, duration of hospital stay, and outcome of newborns admitted into the sick newborn........

Abstract: Objective: Different tumor and tumor like conditions can affect spinal cord and its supporting structures. They can affect both adults and children. They can lead to severe neurological deficits and several morbidities if not diagnosed in time and treated accordingly. Aim of our study was to assess the distribution, features, localization and extent of tumors of spine at intra-dural region by MRI and to correlate it with the pathology diagnosis. Methods: A total of 116 no of patients diagnosed with tumors of spine by MRI and underwent surgery were provisionally taken for study. Extradural tumors were excluded from study group so that our study included 89 no of patients having intradural tumors. The study was conducted in the departments of Radiodiagnosis, Neurosurgery, and Pathology at SCBMCH, Cuttack, and KIMS, Patia, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, from January 2014 to December 2016. It was a retrospective.......

Abstract: BACKGROUND:-Induction of labour defines as artificial initiation of uterine contractions leading to progressive dilatation and effacement of cervix and delivery of baby. Includes women with intact membranes and those with spontaneous rupture of membranes but who are not in labour. Induction of labour is indicated when the risk of continuing pregnancy, for the mother or the fetus, exceeds the risk associated with induced labour and delivery. Many different methods have been used, but prostaglandins remain a preferred method for cervical ripening and labour induction. Dinoprostone is the preferred form of prostaglandin and has been shown to increase the rate of vaginal delivery within 24 h and is generally given when the cervix has a Bishop's score of ≤six......

Abstract: Aim and Background: The aim of this study was to detect the carrier rate of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) among the health care workers (HCWs) in a tertiary care hospital and determine the antimicrobial susceptibility for topically used antimicrobial agents. Increasing number of infections are caused by MRSA strains in the hospitals. About 5% of HCWs become colonized with MRSA and frequently act as vectors of transmission[1]. Methods: Nasal swabs from 200 healthcare workers were collected in the month of October 2017. These swabs were processed using standard laboratory techniques. Results: Of the samples of 200 HCWs we have collected, 52(26%) were nasal carriers of S. aureus and among them 17(32.7%) were carriers of MRSA. The overall carrier rate of MRSA was 8.5 %(17/200). All isolates were sensitive to bacitracin; 76.47.......

Abstract: External inflammatory resorption and replacement resorption (ankylosis) of the root are complicating factors that may result from traumatic dental injures during replantation or repositioning of avulsion and extrusive luxation cases. This is a case of a patient who was followed-up for over 28 years following avulsion of a tooth and extrusive luxation of four teeth and outlines factors that influence the occurrence of resorption..

Abstract: MRI evaluation of perianal fistula plays crucial role in diagnosis, classification and surgical management of fistulous disease. Perianal fistulisation is unusual condition but significantly contribute to gastrointestinal morbidity. By use of proper technique, we can accurately diagnose and classify perianal fistula with better depiction of fistulous track and secondary extensions. Our study aims to evaluate efficiency of MRI in detection and classification of perianal fistula. A total of 50 patients who were diagnosed during the study period June 2017 to June 2018 were included andMRI findings were reviewed, tabulated and analysed. MRI fistulography prove to be highly sensitive investigation for perianal fistula with 100% detection rate of fistulous track, its extension and relation to internal and external sphincter. MRI fistulography is highly sensitive and specific in diagnosing type and extent of perianal fistula. All of the fistula were correctly identified and confirmed on surgery.
