Abstract: Anti-synthetase syndrome (ASS) has been recognized as an important cause of autoimmune inflammatory myopathy in a subset of patients with polymyositis and dermatomyositis. Its hallmark is thepresence of serum antibodies to aminoacyl-transfer RNA synthetases and is characterized by a constellation of manifestations. Clinicians should be familiar with this entity. There is favourable response to steroids and immunosuppressants. We describe here a case of ASS presenting with myositis, interstitial lung disease(ILD), fever, deforming arthritis and Raynaud's phenomenon who had high titre of anti jo-1antibodies.The patient responded well to steroids and cyclophosphamide pulse..

Abstract: Ovarian cysts are common cause for gynaecological surgery. Some Ovarian cysts arise due to endocrine disorders and hence don't require any surgical intervention. Hypothyroidism should be considered in the differential diagnosis in females of reproductive age presenting with ovarian cysts/tumours. Adequate Hormone therapy can prevent these patients from undergoing unnecessary ovarian resection and compromised fertility in the future...

Abstract: Plasma is known as 'fourth state of matter'. Plasma is two types: thermal and non-thermal or cold atmospheric plasma. Electrons and heavy particles (neutral and ions) present at the same temperature in Thermal plasma. Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) is said to be non-thermal because it has electron at a hotter temperature than the heavy particles that are at room temperature. This review demonstrates different application of plasma in dentistry like effect of plasma on dental implant, dental cavity decontamination, sterilization, root canal disinfection, tooth whitening, polymerization etc..
Keyword: thermal plasma, non thermal plasma, cold atmospheric plasma, dentistry

Abstract: Age estimation of children and adolescents is essential to answer a variety of legal questions, including issues of status of majority and criminal liability. The teeth are useful predictors of age in this age-group, particularly because of their relative accuracy and also because of the lack of other reliable predictors. Aim:To estimate the Dental age using modifiied Demirjian's method and India specific formula and to correlate it with the chronological age of children and adolescents of south Kerala origin by using panoramic radiographs. Methods:By using Digital OPGs of 100 subjects aged between 8 & 18 years (50 males & 50 females), dental age was estimated by using modified Demirjian's method and India specific formula. Spearman rank correlation test was done to assess the correlation between dental age (DA) and chronological age (CA). Results &Conclusion:The mean CA was.......

Abstract: Forty Diabetics (DM Type-2) were studied to assess Cardiac autonomic dysfunction by a series of five simple non-invasive tests in order to determine the incidence of sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve dysfunctions. Out of 40 DM Type-2 subjects, 23 (57.5%) patients had cardiac autonomic neuropathy.Incidence of parasympathetic autonomic neuropathy was 57.5 % in comparison to sympathetic autonomic neuropathy, which was 20%, suggesting that parasympathetic pathway may be more sensitive for detection of cardiac autonomic neuropathy. Highest incidence of cardiac autonomic neuropathy has been observed between the age group of 51 to 60 years and as the duration of disease increases the incidence of cardiac autonomic neuropathy also increases.

Abstract: Diabetes is a chronic illness that re-quires continuing medical care and patient self-management education to prevent acute complications and to reduce the risk of long-term complications. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) has increased enormously as there were an estimated 30 million cases in 1985 versus 177 million in 2000 1. Based on these current trends, >360 million individuals will have diabetes by the year 2030 and the increased prevalence of type 2 DM is likely due to increased obesity and reduced activity levels. We conducted a study to find out the knowledge and practice related to self care among diabetic patients and to assess the improvement in knowledge and practice after health education. It was an Interventional ( experimental) study by taking a pre.............
