Abstract: This is the first report of patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) who underwent an effective treatment with inchinkoto, a traditional Kampo (Japanese herbal) medicine. Inchinkoto for the relief of stomatitis is covered by Japanese health insurance, but its effects on RAS have not been established. We treated two RAS patients with inchinkoto (7.5 g/day): 76- and 72-year-old Japanese females. The inchinkoto treatment showed inhibitory effects on RAS and also improved the patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL) scores on the Short-Form 8 Health Survey and their oral HRQoL scores on the General Oral Health Assessment Index. Significant adverse events did not occur. Inchinkoto may be useful for the treatment of RAS

Abstract: Introduction : Fracture of the lateral condyle of humerus constitute around 13-18% of elbow injuries, with the peak incidence occurring at the age of 6-7 years. The management of fresh displaced fractures of less than 3 weeks duration is not controversial as it is generally agreed that it should be treated by osteosynthetic procedures. Nondisplaced or minimally displaced (<2mm) fractures, treated with simple immobilization with posterior splint along with close follow up and repeat radiographs appears adequate. Displaced fracture are treated with open reduction and fixing internally by suture fixation , Kirschner's wire fixation, preferably with two Kirschner's wires; and screw fixation. Aims & Objectives : Assessment of results in late presentation of fracture lateral condyle of humerus in terms..........

Abstract: Management of a difficult airway is one of the major problems that an anaesthetist can encounter, especially in patients with actual or suspected cervical injuries. This has led to the development of multiple novel laryngoscopes, each of which aims to reduce the difficulty of laryngeal visualization, particularly in the setting of anticipated or unanticipated difficult airway in clinical practice as it presents a potential cause of serious injury for the patient. The C-MAC a Airtraqlaryngoscope facilitate visualization of the vocal cords without the need to align the oral, pharyngeal, and tracheal axes. Mc Coy laryngoscope has a definite advantage over conventional laryngoscope during intubation in neutral position. METHODS: The study included 90 patients divided into two groups undergoing general anaesthesia for elective surgery . Patients of group CM (n=30) were intubated using C-MAC videolaryngoscope and group AT (n=30) were intubated using Airtraq laryngoscope and ML(N-30) were intubated using Mc coy laryngoscope. After adequate muscle relaxation and manual inline stabilization of cervical spine, laryngoscopy and intubation was carried out using C-MAC , Airtraq.......

Abstract: Synovial sarcoma also called malignant synovioma is a type of soft tissue sarcoma occurring near joint capsule or tendon sheath in young adults. Histologically the tumor is characterized by the presence of small uniform spindle cells and epithelial cells giving it a biphasic appearance. The diagnosis is mainly based on the above pattern of histopathology along with the presence of translocation t ( X :18)( p11.2: q11.2 ). Synovial sarcoma involving other sites like mediastinum is extremely rare. We present the imaging features in two cases of histologically proven synovial sarcoma in young individuals presenting as huge intrathoracic masses ..

Abstract: Osteoarthritis, a progressively destructive joint disease causing varying degrees of unrelenting pain and excess suffering is highly prevalent among all older populations. Primarily affecting the articular cartilage lining of freely moving joints, and commonly attributed to the aging process, this highly debilitating disease can be aggravated by a variety of medical comorbidities and biological factors other than age. Depression, a frequently observed condition in the older population as well as among people with chronic and/or chronically painful health conditions is another aggravating factor. Given that osteoarthritisis largely irreversible and that older people are more likely than younger persons to have this condition, the goal of this editorial was to provide a brief overview of the role of depression in the pathway from osteoarthritis pathology to disability and to make appropriate recommendations................

Abstract: Leukemias are abnormal proliferation of immature bone marrow-derived cells (blasts) that may also involve peripheral blood or solid organs while Lymphomas are malignant neoplasms characterized by the proliferation of cells native to the lymphoid tissue. Haematological malignancies have diverse modes of presentation that often diagnosed on peripheral blood examination but then ultimately requires bone marrow examination for both diagnosis and management. This simple and relatively safe procedure is important particularly in resource poor centres since access to adjuvant diagnostic techniques are often lacking or absent Present study was aimed to study changes in cells in PBF (Peripheral Blood Film) and Bone Marrow Aspiration and Bone Marrow Biopsy of patients presenting with new diagnosis of Leukemia and Lymph Node biopsy proven cases of Lymphoma and to correlate them...

Abstract: Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are at higher risk of developing endometrial hyperplasia (EH). This study determined the prevalence of EH among women with infertility due to PCOS and assessed the predictive value of endometrial thickness (ET) measurement by trans-vaginal scan (TVS). This was a prospective study on infertile women with and without PCOS in which clinical data, hormonal profile, ET and endometrial biopsy (EB) for histopathological examination were collected. Thirty-seven women with PCOS and 23 women without PCOS presenting with infertility and/or abnormal uterine bleeding underwent TVS, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy and EB. OBJECTIVE(S) We aim to assess and comparatively evaluate the safety and efficacy of misoprostol alone and mifepristone with misoprostol for second trimester termination of pregnancy.......

Abstract: The PAR index is primarily designed to look at the results of a group of patients, rather than an individual patient, as there are always a small number of patients where the index does not fully represent the result obtained. The index is, however, generally accepted by the British Orthodontic Society as a useful tool in this area. For its use to be accurate and reproducible, any individual providing a PAR scoring service must have first successfully passed an appropriate calibration test and have documentary evidence of this. Unless an individual is calibrated on the use of the index, the results they produce will not be valid or reproducible and should not be used to assess the standard of someone else's treatment. Re-validation is also advisable and evidence of attending a "refresher" course would be advisable. It is the responsibility of the "user" (e.g. specialist or PCT/LHB) to ensure that the person scoring the models has been properly calibrated. With respect to interpreting the results, a mean PAR.........

Abstract: Midgut volvulus is a rare cause of intestinal obstruction in adults. Its presentation is similar to intestinal obstruction caused by other conditions. So delay in the diagnosis of this condition can lead to vascular disaster which causes a poor prognosis in the patient. So early diagnosis and management is necessary to prevent bowel gangrene. We report a case of 23yrs old female who presented with abdominal pain, distension and shock . She underwent emergency laparotomy which revealed midgut volvulous with gangrene of bowel for which she underwent bowel resection and jejunotransverse anastamosis. Post operatively she was started on total parenteral nutrition to improve the nutritional status of the patient.
