Abstract: This prospective hospital-based study was conducted on 50 patients with chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM). Those with acute exacerbation of their disease were excluded. Patients satisfying inclusion criteria were interviewed on a semi structured proforma for demographic details and hygiene related practices. A detailed history was elicited followed by ENT examination and pure tone audiometry. The mean age of female patients was 36.33 years with a Standard Deviation of 15.21 years, while that of male patients was 25.43 years with a Standard Deviation of 10.11 years. 13(26%) patients had severe aural disease. The difference in the proportion of men and women having tympanic membrane perforation was statistically highly significant (X2=10.67 and p=0.001). 1(2%) of the patients required bilateral tympanoplasty while 5 (10%) of the patients required unilateral modified radical mastoidectomy. 32 (64%) of those who needed surgery had deferred the procedure.

Abstract: Fibro -osseous lesions represent a varied group of entities in which the normal bone is replaced by cellular fibrous tissue containing mineralized foci that may vary in amount and appearance. These lesions predominantly affects the jaw and craniofacial bone. This is a retrospective study of 15 cases from June 2015 to May 2017 over a period of 24 months. Variables examined include clinical details, radiographic findings and histological examination by H & E stain. Most of the lesions were ossifying fibroma followed by fibrous dysplasia. The mean age of presentation is 30 years with slight female predominance. Osseous lesions show considerable overlapping in the clinical, radiological and histological features. So athorough knowledge of these lesions is mandatory for interpretation and appropriate diagnosis.

Abstract: Introduction: Increased retinopathy progression has been reported after cataract surgery in patients with diabetes mellitus [1]. Light has toxic potential and the eye has adapted several mechanisms to protect the retina from light-induced injury. The two most important sources of tissue absorption through which electromagnetic radiation may be propagated are the cornea and the lens [2]. After cataract surgery and IOL implantation amount of UV light entering the eye increases and leads to retinal damage and increase in pre-existing diabetic retinopathy. So in this study we studied the effect of UV light on DR in pseudophakic eyeMaterial And MethodS-30 patients with immature senile cataract and NPDR in both the eyes were selected. One eye was operated for cataract............

Abstract: Endometrial cancer is a most common malignancy in developed countries. Among the various risk factors for endometrial cancers this study deals with certain genes such as Bcl-2 and Ki67 and its association with various endometrial carcinoma. Aims and Objectives- To determine the expression of Bcl-2 an antiapoptotic gene and Ki-67 a proliferative marker by immunohistochemistry. Materials and methods- 30 endometrial samples were collected from patients who presented with post menopausal bleeding and subjected to immunohistochemistry. Conclusion- Endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia showed 100% positivity for both Bcl-2 and Ki67 denoting the high mitotic activity and low apoptotic activity in this clonal neoplasm. This indicates the increased potential for these lesions to transform into frank malignancies.Bcl-2 expression decreases with increasing grade of the carcinma whereas Ki-67 index increases. This indicates increased apoptotic and mitotic activity with higher grade carcinoma and negative correlation of the Bcl-2 and Ki67 expression.

Abstract: One of the most common abdominal wall surgeries performed by general surgeons is hernia repair surgery. With the advent of Mesh for hernia repair the recurrence rates of hernia has appreciably decreased. But mesh related complications have emerged. This is a prospective study done during May 2017 to May 2018 in a tertiary care hospital. The study included 1282 cases of hernia repair done with mesh and found 28 (2.18%) cases to have developed mesh related infections. In all the patients the mesh was removed and the infection resolved. There was no recurrence or persistent infection after removal of mesh.

Abstract: Thyroid gland is highly vascular, ductless gland that clasps the upper part of the trachea. It extends from the fifth or sixth tracheal ring to the oblique line on the thyroid cartilage, and is enclosed in a sheath of pretracheal fascia attached to that line and to the arch of the cricoid cartilage. The gland varies greatly in size, and is relatively larger in women and children than in men.[1]Method : The present study was carried out in 25 adult cadavers. The midline structures of the neck were dissected in layers and finally thyroid gland was exposed by separating the strap muscles. The gland was examined morphologically and looked for variations. Photographs were taken and later the results were statistically analyzed. Results: Levator glandulae thyroi-deae, pyramidal lobe ,absence of isthmus were noted in the present study.

Abstract: The Human Immunodeficiency virus(HIV), Hepatitis B and C viruses are blood borne viruses that cause chronic infections. Because of their shared modes of transmission, coinfections with these viruses are commonly found in patients. The problem of coinfections in HIV infected patients are further compounded by the impact of the toxicity of the Antiretroviral drugs on the liver thus increasing the liver associated morbidity and mortality in these patients. Both hepatitis B and C are also reported to affect the outcome of HIV treatment. Our study aims to find the seroprevalence of markers of Hepatitis B and C viruses in HIV infected patients who are accessing HIV care in our facility as well as the HIV treatment outcomes in those who are coinfected. A total 249 patients were included in the study. Eighteen (7.2%) and 24(9.6%) of the were seropositive for hepatitis B surface antigen and Hepatitis C antibodies respectively. Coinfection with Hepatitis B or C did not affect treatment outcomes in these patients as more than 80% of those who are coinfected had most recent HIV viral load of 1000 copies or..........
