Abstract: The indiscriminate use of firearms, made firearm projectile injuries (PAF), common in large and small centers, which in turn affect the maxillofacial region, especially the lower third of the face. In these facial wounds, comminuted fractures in the mandible and the presence of infectious foci predominate. Despite the various possibilities for treating mandibular fractures, the use of external fixators has become a viable option, especially in cases of complex fractures associated with an infectious condition, even though they are adapted for use in the face. The objective of this work is to present a clinical case of a patient victim of a PAF injury in the face with a comminuted fracture in the jaw symphyseal region, admitted to the service of Maxillofacial Surgery at Hospital de Urgência de Teresina - PI. The proposed treatment was closed reduction of the fracture and stabilization using the external fixation system.

Abstract: Objective: To estimate the effect of gaming on un-stimulated salivary flow and pH among young adults.Materials and Methods:A Sample of 200 young adults was recruited for the study. Information regarding gaming activity was recorded using a scale of Internet Disorder (IGD Scale). Psychometric symptoms were assessed using DASS-21 and the evaluation of salivary pH and flow (un-stimulated saliva) among the subjects were checked using pH meter and rate measurement (ml/min) respectively. Results:The characteristics of gaming patterns were identified among the participants. A strong correlation was seen with IGD scores and DASS-21 scale for Depression, Anxiety and Stress and also for salivary parameters like flow and pH. The comparison of mean scores was seen from the results with.....

Abstract: Variation in heart rate reflects the resultant effect of sympathetic and parasympathetic systems in a time-related dynamic fashion and an expression of complex temporal dynamics of cardiac chronotropy. By analysing Heart Rate Variability (HRV) the overall cardiac health and the state of the autonomic nervous system can be assessed. But the parametric expression of HRV variables are made in a single numerical value that inadequately expresses the attributes of heart rate dynamics. The beat-to-beat temporal dynamics remains unexpressed. The individual and 'pure' effect of sympathetic and parasympathetic systems on cardiac autonomic status remains submerged within the overall influence of ANS and cannot be segregated and separately evaluated, without....

Abstract: Periodontal disease is a complex infectious disease resulting from interplay of bacterial infection and host response to bacterial challenge and the disease is modified by environmental, acquired risk factors and genetic susceptibility. Neutrophil priming is a relatively new concept, and its role in the pathophysiology of different forms of periodontal diseases is still unclear. With advances in our understanding of neutrophil biology, various intracellular signaling pathways and mechanisms of tissue destruction, greater insights into the periodontal pathogenesis can be gained

Abstract: Over the last 50 years, exogenous corticosteroidshave been used in the treatment of variousmedical illnesses. A number of adverse reactionshave been established, including disturbanceof mental state. The average incidence of diagnosable psychiatric disorders due to steroid therapy is reported to be about 6%, but morepatients suffer from mild symptoms which do not fulfill any diagnosis. Affective reactions such as depression, mania and hypomania are the most common side effects, along with psychosis, anxiety and delirium. There is no clear mechanism model for corticosteroidinduced psychiatric disorder, but it appears to be dose-dependent. The incidence seems to be even higher at megadoses of methylprednisone. Although it is a well-known complication inadulthood, literature about steroid-inducedpsychotic disorder in children and adolescentis insufficient

Abstract: Dilaceration of permanent teeth usually is a consequence of traumatic injuries to the primary teeth. Although it may appear anywhere along the long axis of the tooth, i.e., crown, cemento-enamel junction, or root, most often the root is involved. Crown dilacerations, however, is a rare condition representing 3% of the total injuries. The presence of such teeth in the aesthetic zone is often distressing for the patient, socially and psychologically, thereby seeking early intervention. This article describes the immediate replacement of a dilacerated permanent mandibular left central incisor using a fiber-composite resin splint (FRC-Ribbond) with the natural tooth crown as pontic following surgical extraction of the dilacerated tooth.

Abstract: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), commonly known as mandhasanni in Siddha terminology. ASD manifests in early childhood characterized by group of conditions with deficits in social interaction and communication along with repetitive behavior interests and activities. About 1 in 59 children has been identified with ASD according to CDC's Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. ASD is about 4 times more common among boys than girls. The prevalence has been increased in recent years which needresearch focusing on understanding the etiology of ASD. ASD makes life challenging for the entire family as the children are dependent on activities of day-to-day life. Thereis wide range of symptoms which makes globally access to services and support for children with ASD. Siddha system is a traditional system of medicine which has strategic principle on diseases of origin. The main aim of this observational study is to rule out etiological factors of ASD according to siddha literatures which would be useful for future generation to reduce prevalence of ASD.Investigation....

Abstract: Objective- The main objective of the study was to diagnose carotid artery stenosis (CAS) by high resolution ultrasonography (HRUSG) and CT angiography (CTA) and to compare the findings with Digital subtraction angiography (DSA). Introduction-CAS is one of the important causes of stroke so diagnosis and characterization of CAS is a crucial step in management of stroke. Many modalities have come up for diagnosis of CAS, of which DSA is considered gold standard. In this study, we aim to evaluate the reliability of USG and CTA (non-invasive technique) for detection of CAS and compare with gold standard DSA which is an invasive technique. Materials and methods- An institution based correlation study was performed on 33 patients presenting with stroke and TIA in the department...

Abstract: Back ground: Of all patients presenting to the Emergency Department(ED), approximately 10% have complaints of acute abdominal pain. Non-traumatic acute abdominal pain is one of the most common symptoms in adults presenting to the emergency department. Clinical assessment is sufficient to decide on the level of urgency, but not on the specific cause of the acute abdominal pain. The causes of abdominal pain vary from life threatening to the self-limiting. Management decision on the basis of clinical and laboratory tests alone can result in unnecessary intervention or delayed management. Hence a diagnostic modality has to...
