Title | : | Small/medium size mid line ventral hernias: 4 layer Suture repair on physiological principle |
Country | : | India |

Abstract: Background: Mesh is routinely implanted to give mechanical artificial re-enforcement in front of the sutured hernia defect in the mid line abdominal wall or ventral hernias. This study shows how anterior rectus sheath is used in place of mesh to give such mechanical and biological re-enforcement in small and medium size ventral hernias. Additional recti muscle suture in mid line takes care of the divarication of recti, strengthens the weakened linea alba and repair such hernias on physiological principle with excellent success rate.
Materials and methods: This is a prospective study done on 161 patients operated during a period from June 2010 to May 2018 and followed up till June......

Abstract: Introduction: Mediastinum is located in the central part of the chest cavity splitting into the superior, anterior, middle and posterior compartments. They represent a wide diversity of disease states. So, the location and composition of a mass is significant in confining the differential diagnosis. Aims: To study the frequency, location and distribution of various pathologically diagnosed masses and correlate their clinical, histological and immunohistochemical (IHC) findings. Settings and Design: This was a cross-sectional observational study conducted for two years at a tertiary care hospital with a sample size of 40.......

Abstract: Nasal irrigation is an old and well-documented practice originating in ancient India for taking care of the upper respiratory tract. It is a relatively common and beneficial method for maintaining nasal hygiene. It not only flushes out allergens and mucus, but also keeps the nose moist. Hence, it augments clearance of the sinonasal cavity. Here, we are making a modest attempt to discuss the relevance of nasal irrigation and its potential use during the current COVID-19 pandemic. We believe that regular alkaline nasal irrigation is an inexpensive and simple preventive and therapeutic measure in all cases of upper respiratory tract infections. In the absence of a suitable vaccine or an antiviral agent for SARS-CoV-2, we can recommend regular alkalinenasal douching as a safe and effective intervention that can be implemented globally.......

Abstract: Background: Medicinal plants have received a lot of interest for producing agents that could be considered as treatment options against oral bacteria. Dental caries has been strongly associated with Streptococcus mutans. Literature suggests that Enterococcus faecalis is associated with chronic periodontitis and failed root canal treatments. Wheat grass, Kokum, Sumac berry and Jambu seed are some of the natural products that have received renewed interest for their antimicrobial effect. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of Wheat grass, Kokum, Sumac berry and Jambuseed on Streptococcus Mutans&E.Faecalis.The present study aimed to evaluate and compare the antimicrobial efficacy of four herbal extracts against E. faecalis bacteria and streptococcus mutans.....

Abstract: Development of gingival marginal and papillary recession is common sequele of periodontal disease impairing the esthetic and functional activity making surgical management at times difficult. A non-surgical conservative approach was carried out in this case report to tackle the recession in a novel way using pink coloured composites/ gingival composites to achieve good pink and white appearance and maintain oral hygiene.Gingival composites are available in various shades to allow matching with the tissue and can be used to restore cervical abrasions due to traumatic tooth brushing, gingival recession, papillary deficiency

Abstract: A Prospective study on hanging was done, which included 155 consecutive cases of hanging, at Indira Gandhi Government General hospital, Pondicherry, from September 2011 - March 2013. The main objective of this article was to ascertain the profile of ligature material, knot & the type of suicidalhanging. In this study, males constituted bulk of the cases (70.3 %) & the age group of 20 - 40 years was noted to be the most affected age group. Nylon materials (74.82%) were the most commonly used ligature material. Running knot (28.38 %) & single turn of ligature (89.67%) was the commonest. Complete hanging (76.19%) cases were more than partial hanging cases. Among the partial hanging cases feet touching the ground, was the most common posture noted..

Abstract: Aim- To study Effects of Zumba dance on management of stress in adult age group. Background--Zumba is a global dance fitness program focused on whole body rythymic movements which fuses fitness &entertainment. It can stimulate the production of endorphins in the body in order to suppress the action of stress causing hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. Material & Method- Group of 50 individuals(18-25 years) were selected as sample subjects. Each individual was given a survey form( Perceived stress questionnaire) to be completed at the begining. After a month the same survey form was given again to each individual .The survey forms of individuals pre and post Zumba were compared. The difference between 2 survey forms was recorded to study effects of Zumba dance in the management of stress.Data analysis was done by using chi square test....

Abstract: Background: In the South-East Asian countries oral cancer is one among the commonly occurring malignancies due to tobacco use. Early stage diagnosis of the disease is reported to have a better prognosis. Saliva comprises of a wide range of analytes, oxidative stress related molecules that can be utilized as biomarkers for clinical applications. Sialo chemistry studies involving antioxidants have recently gained importance as biomarkers for oral cancer risk assessment One such oxidative stress related biomarker is superoxide dismutase. The objective of the study was to estimate and correlate the level of salivary super oxide dismutase in controls, tobacco users with and without Potentially Malignant Disorders, so that these levels can be used as a prognostic biomarker in the progression into PMDs. Materials and Methods: Study subjects were selected from department of Oral medicine and Radiology, Dayananda Sagar College of Dental Sciences, Bengaluru. The sample size for the study was 60 patients.....

Abstract: As the world is facing the crisis of ferocious virus "COVID 19'' the entire health care system has been broken. The entire health care team has to be diverted to the care of COVID patients1. Maximizing focus on COVID 19 has directly or indirectly resulted in neglect of other illness and conditions2. In spite of this crisis there are few conditions or illness which cannot be neglected and needs immediate actions. Inability to have appropriate or prompt actions within stipulated time may be proven fatal to the patients or may leave disability for life. Stroke or Cerebro vascular accident is one among them. A medical emergency caused by blockage or bleeding in the brain is the.....
